"I am a Nu Kitchens repeat customer. In the fall of 2011, I had Nu Kitchens gut and rebuild our kitchen. The entire job was completed in seven days and I have the time stamped photographs to prove it. It would have been done a day sooner if it were not for the fact that a grove had to be cut in our slab floor so wiring could be routed to our island. Nu Kitchens did everything they agreed to do and more.
Like any remodel, there were minor adjustments required over time and in each case they were done quickly (the day after I made a request) and correctly. In short, Nu Kitchens performed to my highest expectations.
Six months later (April 2012), the hose connecting the toilet tank in a bathroom failed and our house was completely flooded. Farmers Insurance recommended a company to do the cleanup, dry out the house, move all of our furniture into storage and remove asbestos from every room in our vintage 1950’s house. Two days after the work began; I contacted Nu Kitchen to start planning the rebuild. By the time the demolition and dry-out was complete, almost every wall in the house was cut open from the floor to at least 18-inches above floor level, the slab floor was completely exposed and all that was left of my house was a truly empty shell.
While this was going on, Farmers offered us around $16,000 to rebuild the entire interior, a ridiculous price for the amount of work that was obviously required. At that point, I hired a public adjuster to negotiate with Farmers for the money they were contractually required to pay us under the terms of our replacement cost policy. This proved to be a long and tedious process and delayed the start of the rebuild for months, including a three-week period when they were negotiating over replacement of a $300 tub while paying $4,000 a month for our hotel bill.
During the months that ensued, we popped into Nu Kitchens frequently to plan the rebuild. We decided very quickly that we would take the opportunity presented by having a “clean slate” to upgrade both bathrooms along with other features of our house that we had previously put off for the future. This included new cabinetry and granite counter tops, tile floors, a new custom designed upscale tile shower in one bathroom and tub in the other, all new toilets and sinks, mirrors, cabinets lighting, in short; everything. We also decided to tile the floor in the dining room that joins and perfectly matches the tile that Nu Kitchen installed in the kitchen in 2011. We picked carpet; tile for the front entry along with new front and rear doors, new mirrored sliding doors for all the bedroom closets, etc.
When Farmers finally agreed to provided sufficient funds and our public adjuster no longer needed evidence that would be compromised if the rebuild began, Nu Kitchen started to work.
Nu Kitchen’s planning and scheduling works like a well-oiled machine. One person finishes step 28 at 2:00 p.m. and another worker starts step 29 at 2:01 p.m. There were no work stoppages because a supplier did not ship on time or because the workers were not there each day. In fact, at many times work was done on Saturdays and Sundays. They have competent employees in every building trade needed on staff and do not use subcontractors. I know this because my wife and I stopped by the house at various times every day. Once work started, the house was completed on time in six weeks.
During our last month in the hotel my son, who had just entered into escrow on a new house, had a fire in his Lake Forest condo that he had just placed on the market. Both his family and ours were living in hotels (different ones). My son also used Nu Kitchen to rebuild the condo and to make minor improvements in his new home. He is currently considering redoing the kitchen and told me he plans to have Nu Kitchen bid the job.
The bottom line is that I have recommended Nu Kitchen to both family and friends and will call them again in the future if the situation presents itself."
