"Buyer beware! This store sold me shirts that were very cheap (good value) but were sized as if a race of giants had designed them. First I ordered Large shirts, and they came as giant XL shirts. I gave them to my brother, who is larger. Then I reordered the shirts in medium,, thinking they would fit. The mediums that came were still XL's in size. I ended up needing to retun almost all of the shirts. When I spoke with the rep, they agreed to waive the restocking fee of $4.95 per shirt. They also said they would send a label. It took several more calls to get the label sent. But when they processed the return, of course they charged it. Then I spent another 20 minutes on LIve Chat fixing it.
All in all I probably wasted an hour of my time over a $30 return. Between the waste of time, and the difficulty getting them to honor their agreement of waiving restock fees, it was a terrible shopping experience. Only buy something if you are sure you will like it, or if it's expensive, because the restock fee is deadly on cheaper items.

"Again carefull on what you are buying. The description can be very unclear. I tried to buy a game, later found out that it was guide. But its too late to cancel the order even if its not shipped, when I called in. They say they cannot cancel. It got shipped after I tried to cancel it. Later found out why, they charge you restocking fee, so by the time you return and postage charges. Ended up wit $2. Which is waste of time and waster of $$s. I would rather pay 2 to 10$s more and go into the store. Careful.
Will never buy again even if its cheapest.

"This was most definitely the worst shopping experience I have ever had. I consider myself a lucky shopper - I have never had bad experiences with online retailers ever... and if I have, I was completely satisfied with a resolution.

This is not so with Overstock.com.

I am extremely dissatisfied with their return policy. I ordered a digital camera without doing enough research, and found out that it was not the correct camera I wanted. Well, the order had already shipped only a day after I had placed the order, which didn't give me very much time to cancel.

I refused the shipment, assuming that if the shipment is refused that perhaps I would not be charged the ridiculous joke of a 15% restocking fee on electronics (Let's just assume for a minute that a purchase was made illegally by a relative using my credit card... would I still be charged a 15% restocking fee? Probably. This company is a joke of an online e-tailer.)

Well, the best they could do is give me a $10 in-store coupon instead of withholding the restocking fee from me. WHY is there a restocking fee? Isn't everything sold from "overstock" just OVERSTOCK? Most online stores do not charge a restocking fee if returned within a certain amount of time (the good ones, at least). And they for sure do not charge someone when a package is refused.

So, the bottom line is this, once you place an order on an electronic -- you're getting it, even if it's a gift. You'll have at most 1 day to decide if you want it, and if you don't, well, you're giving a $20 donation to overstock.com in the form of a 15% restocking fee for electronics ($5 if non-electronic).

Don't ever buy here unless you like throwing money away. I will never do online shopping with anyone except newegg.com and zipzoomfly.com, people who have best satisfied me over my many years.

Also, I read Abstraxion's review, which is a few reviews down, and I have to say that this is my same exact opinion of this company. I guess it's very hard to restock something that is not only "overstock," but also has never been opened. I received the same "form" responses from customer service, and I at least have the opportunity to dispute the charge with my credit card company, which I will pursue.

**UPDATE**
After speaking to Customer Service Rep. "Dino" through the Live Chat function, Dino offered me a refund of the full amount for my restocking fee. He was quick, courteous, and was very understandable (didn't type in broken English). I explained how it is almost impossible for someone to know what their loved one (in this case, Mother) wants for christmas, and that to ship something out 1 day after ordering it gave no time to consider the purchase. I hope others will be as lucky as me.

"This was my first time ordering from Overstock.com and I was VERY impressed. I placed my order late on a Sunday night, it shipped on Monday and I received the well-packaged item on Wednesday. Wow! Speedy shipping for only $1.40 and during the Christmas season, no less! It was supposed to have been sent USPS but was shipped UPS instead so maybe that's why it was fast?? I will definitely buy from them again."

"I ordered a Microsoft Wireless Wheel for the Xbox 360 from then since it was about $25 cheaper than the closest competitor. According to their website, the item was in stock and would ship in 2-3 business days. A week later and no word of the item being shipped. Called customer support who didn't have a clue as to what was going on. It's like they were reading my order status off the website, which I'm able to do myself. Another week passed without shipment. When I called to cancel, they told me that they couldn't cancel since the order had been sent to the warehouse. How annoying! Finally, they admitted that they didn't have the product in stock and didn't know when they were going to actually receive them. So they cancel my order for me after I've wasted 2 weeks of my time to save $25. No offer for a concession coupon or anything. Just a "We can't predict when our supplier will have the item." Perhaps they shouldn't have an item listed as ready to ship if they don't have it. I used to order from them years ago without an issue. Things have definitely gone downhill since then."

"Terrible! If I had read the reviews here I never would have bought from them. I purchased an item on Saturday only to find it on sale at Circuit city the next day for $20 less. I contacted overstock.com to cancel the order and was informed that they could do nothing to stop the order. Their process for asking for price matching is much more difficult than driving to circuit city to pick the item.
I am dealing with Amex to dispute the charge and will never buy from them again.

"I have order from overstock.com a number of times over the last two years or so and have had a wonderful experience each time. Orders, usually taken from many categories and with a wide variety of individual prices, have all been promptly acknowledged, billed and shipped as specified. Prices are good and I like the selection so I'm sure I'll be shopping here many more times in the future."

"**UPDATE** Overstock employee called me the following day, apologized and corrected the issue. I still wish there was an easier way to cancel an order.


**Original message**
I have placed an order for ski boots that I realized were too small for the recipient. I contacted customer support, with in a few hours of placing this order, and was quite impolitely told that it is impossible to cancel due to it being processed. I do realize that once the shipping process starts it is very difficult to cancel. I have placed the order on Saturday and called a few hours afterwards, the item will not ship until Monday at the very least and I am pretty sure it has not even been packaged yet. Is it really that hard to pull a record out of their database and stop it before it leaves the door?

With Amazon.com on the other side canceling an order is as easy as pressing a button on their wonderful website.

During this Christmas shopping season I will have an additional $100 charge that will not go away until the item is returned, not to mention return costs and possible restocking fees.

Overstock, this is just plain and simply unacceptable--a bad business practice that will drive your loyal customers away.

"Stay away from these con-artists. They operate like your typical boilerroom operation. The only thing they do effeciently is charge your credit card. Do yourself a favor and don't fall for their low prices you'll be sorry. I made a mistake of ordering an xbox from them which was supposed to be in stock, after 4 days I finally get a tracking number generated somewhere in Colorado. {There located in Utah) What supprised me is first the tracking number was no good then I'm told that it was sent by regular U.S. mail with no tracking or proof of delivery!! All the help Overstock is willing to give is that if it doesn't show up by Dec 19th call them back and they'll look into it. Thats three weeks from when it supposedly shipped I'm now disputing the charges with my credit card company. STAY Away!!!!

Update: Well the Xbox360 finally arrived!!! Sent by regular mail with no signature or proof of delivery required!!! Thank God someone noticed the package. I will still NEVER buy from this company again! How do they stay in business with such lousy customer service and to send expensive electronics by regular mail is just utterly amazing!!!

"NEVER, NEVER PURCHASE FROM THIS STORE. They write their return policies to only benefit them. Additionally, their price guarantee is a SHAM! They find any one of many exuces to not honor it. Their customer service is terrible and they have resellers selling their merchandise for much less that they sell the same product for. They flood the internet with alternative reseller sites. Once you submit your order there is no cancelling it. They say once it goes to the warehouse you can not cancel it. Do not fall for their fancy web site. Go to a more reputable store you can trust!"

"Prices are decent, but the customer service couldn't be worse. I pre-ordered a Microsoft Zune two weeks before release, and then two days before the release date, I tried to cancel. They couldn't cancel my order, even though it hadn't shipped, and said I would have to pay a 15% restocking fee on an UNOPENED item PLUS return shipping. Online customer service is rude and uninformed: they don't listen to anything you say and instead give form responses to everything.

1 and a half weeks passes, well after everyone who ordered at different retailers received their Zune, and I get an email stating that there is going to be another week delay but that I can call into customer service to get a full refund. I call and cancel the order. A week later, I RECEIVE THE PRODUCT IN THE MAIL! They had shipped after I was promised a cancellation!

Instead of dealing with all the crap they gave me again, I just sold it on eBay. This from a company that can afford to run intensive TV ads. Why not spend more money on better business practices?

"Beware of their "Best Price Guarantee"... most likely they won't honor it. I bought a mouse from them, and 2 days later found it on sale elsewhere for about $20 less.

I requested a credit of the difference but was told my purchase was not eligible because the other store offered free shipping on it and "since the competitor's website has a free shipping offer, this is a special promotion". This is despite the fact that if I had chosen standard shipping (instead of the free shipping) it would still have been cheaper than Overstock's price.

It's stated in their policy, I don't disagree with that, but the wording of their "Best Price Guarantee" basically assures them they can reject practically any price match you try to make. Just be aware of this, and don't count on them honoring the spirit of their guarantee if you find a better price elsewhere.

"Placed my first order with Overstock.com on November 5, 2006 and my package arrived 3 days later -- just as estimated.

I am extremely pleased with Overstock.com. I feel they represented the item I ordered appropriately, they offered a reasonable price, and I was pleasantly surprised by the swift processing and delivery.

I would definitely purchase from them again.

"I placed an order on October 10th, it is now October 28th and I still don't have my item. I've phoned and chatting numerous times with Overstock's customer service and they have been unhelpful at best. It doesn't even look like they bothered to ship my item out at all, despite the fact that their website showed "in stock" when I placed my order.

I am deeply dissatisfied with Overstock.com and will NEVER make a purchase with them again. Items are not received in a reasonable timely manner and then when you call them, they are totally unhelpful. This was an awful experience.

"I ordered a few books from overstock.com about a week ago (for about half of the MSRP). Apparently, I accidentally entered my address wrong when placing the order and it was delivered to the wrong place. I called Overstock.com's customer service and explained the situation, fully expecting them to say "it's your fault not ours, you suck, good-bye". But instead, the guy on the phone said he'd trace the order to find out where it went and send it back to me. If it was lost, then they'd send me a new order at no charge. Still waitng for this to be resolved, will update with more info later."
