"***update 5/29...........i finally recieced the correct memory, and they also swapped the cdrw for the one i wanted. so kyle DID fix my problem. however, because they messed up the first time, i doubt i would order from them again.***
i ordered a customized AMD xp sytem earlier this month, after finding pcusa on pricewatch.com
system arrived in good condition, and ran flawlessly, except for the fact that they installed the wrong size memory. (ordered 512mb 333........they sent 256mb 333).
i called the toll free line, and talked to a guy named Kyle (asian accent). he was decently polite, and when i told him that XP shows the chip as 256mb, he asked me to open the case and verify it was. i told him this would void my warranty, and he said as long as i didnt break anything, i wont have a problem (yeah right, i smell loophole in the future). anyway, i would have to open the machine anyway in order to send back the memory, so i did. it was indeed a 256mb chip.
he sent me an RMA number via email within 1 hour of our phone conversation, just like he said.
i shipped out the chip out May 20th (as well as a CD-Rw drive i wanted to exchange, i ordered the wrong color, my fault, kyle said he would exchange it and i could pay the difference).
i will let you guys know how this plays out."
"This was my first attempt at building a computer.
I purchase a CPU/MoBO/Fan/Case/PowerSupply Combo.
They installed all the above. I opened box read instructions as I went to open case the VOID IF REMOVED sticker was on the side. This was scary I still need to install Video, HDD, etc... Opened case installed 2 sticks of 256meg RDRam and everything else needed. I found that they didn't plug in the Aux power, so I did. Turned it on and no video. Trouble shot for a while the next moring I called and they told me they don't offer Help. "The CPU was working when it left here. You must have done something to it. I trust my techs. before I trust customer" Making me think I just wasted $500.00 dollars. After 3 days of calling and trying 3 video cards, They had me fill out the RMA and 3 more days I got the RMA Approval and spent another $15.00 to ship it back to them. They told me it was my RDRam and they shipped it back. This was my mistake the Ram was not 100% identical. Not just the PC800 or the 256 megs each, But they where not physicialy IDENTICAL. Now everything works fine and they paid to ship the CPU back to me.
If you are doing this for the first time maybe you should deal with someone in your home town.
PCUSA --NOT FOR NOVICES
Poor Tech Support"
"Bought a complete Athlon system. I'm a Small time reseller and Repair Tech so I need good fast service. I have gotten that so far with them. "
"Horrible experience. Machine appeared to be fine on receipt, but it locked up the first time I turned it on. I contacted Pete (apparently thier only support person) and he advised me to reinstall Windows. I tried, but had the same problem - lockups at random points throughout the install.
I called Pete again. He told me to replace the memory and if it fixed the problem that I could just send him the original stick and he'd credit my account for what I spent. I was suspicious and did not want to do this, but he said the only other option was shipping the whole machine back and that he didn't want to do that.
Replacing the memory did not help, and so I called Pete again and demanded that he take the machine back and credit my account. He said that they'd take it back and see what the problem was, and if the machine was defective, he'd credit my account. I told him that I'd already did all the troubleshooting that he told me to do and that it didn't help. He came back with a real laugher - "I didn't tell you do anything. I just gave you advice. I can't take responsibility for your actions..."
Pete was extremely rude, arrogant, and didn't care one bit about his reputation or the quality of his product. He said that if I ship the machine back, that he might give a refund depending on whether it was defective or not. I did not return the machine because I did not trust him at all.
Please, do not do business with this company. They might have good prices, but if you end up with a lemon, you're in big trouble."
"I had a fairly positive experience when I first bought from PCUSA, even though they sent a better and more expensive CPU fan instead of the one I really ordered. However, after 8 months the fan became noisy, so I recently tried to contact PCUSA as to how to use their 1-yr. warranty. First of all, out of the MANY questions I answered via email, they only answered a couple, and very slow about answering. Tried phone but waited FOREVER so I gave up. Secondly, I would have to ship back the defective fan, be without my computer for who knows how long, and if I FORGET to specify on an RMA form that I want the fan I ACTUALLY ordered, I will get charged extra because they will ship the more expensive fan to me, since that's the one I sent back to them. It's not my fault they shipped the wrong one to begin with! Normally it would only cost a few dollars to ship fan back to them, and I would save by using the warranty, but I think I'm better off getting a new part at a local retail store for around $15! If you think what you're ordering might fail, beware, especially if you can't live without the part for awhile!"
"Although pcusa charges you $10.25 for a "1-Year Part & Labor Warranty" they refuse to acknowledge any attempt to contact them about deffective parts. You can try phone (it's busy), e-mail (ignored) even fax (ignored) - they will not respond. Fortunately, this was a "test buy" to make sure they offered acceptable service, prior to my big buy ($15K or so). PCUSA will not get that business or any other from me."
"I purchased a PC from PCUSA, and have yet to encounter any problems with it. They offered competitive prices and I recieved a good pc! The day it was suppossed to ship, I recieved it! Shipping itself, though, was very expensive. I would definetly order from there again!"
"This was the worst purchasing experience I have ever had.
After receiving my product it had the wrong hardware installed, and they made me pay freight to have it shipped back to have the correct work done. Additionally the RAM they installed was faulty and needed to be replaced.
When I received the machine the second time, it still had incorrect hardware and they refused to refund my freight charges and I was forced "to live with the mistake"
The customer service manager was unhelpful and rude, and I would not recommend this company to any looking to purchase a computer.
I was using this home purchase as a measuring stick for a larger 20 machine purchase I was going to make for my company, and they definitly lost my business.
I would not recommend this company to anyone!!!"
"System was shipped as promised on their website (within 3 weekdays). I am really impressed with how much I got for my money. Product quality and assembly are top notch. I would definitely shop with PC USA again.
I was a little hesitant in ordering from a site without SSL encryption, but I still think it was worth it."
"I am buying tons of equipment online and this was the worst expreience I've ever had.
PCUSA is using unfair practices in order to get customers.
The grand total of my purchase was $504 and they make me believe that shipping is free. Now once they've got my credit card number they generously billed $53 more.
I send them an email and the response I've got was extremely arrogant.
I can't believe this is happening. In these times of fierce competition I could choose better reseller.
I hope they go out of business soon with all other cheaters who undermine the Internet economy.
NO MORE PCUSA!
"
"I bought a computer with no OS for a friend at work. The computer worked ok for two weeks and then died. After contacting PCUSA's tech support I was basiclly accused of using 'Pirated Software' and that was the cause of the computer not wanting to boot up with a Win98se boot disk. Yes we violated their warrenty by opening the chassis, but replacing the memory caused to computer to work fine! Lessons learned:1) If you purchase a computer with no OS run some burn in software for two days. 2)They use cheap memory in the hopes of catching any bad sticks while the computer is still in production.3) They connected the cdrom and the cdrw to the same ide cable. This defeats burning on the fly.
Will I use them again? I don't know. Why didn't I ship the box back for them to repair? The cost of shipping and the cost of the new ram was equal. You pay your money and you take your chances... "
"Greatest available. Great prooducts, from the low end to the high end. take great pride in their work. We've bought 8 computers from them. I especially like the way they knock off the price if you pay by check in person. By the way, they DO have a toll-free number: 1-866-goPCUSA. The nutball below must not know that 866 is toll-free."
"As a business owner I am very impressed with the customer service and timely manner that PC Source has achieved. I ordered a system for a client on monday, by friday afternoon it was sitting on my bench. The system far exceeded my expectations. It was built and functioned perfectly. I've been in this business a long time and have never found a company that takes the pride in their product like PC Source does. Keep up the great work guys. I guarentee PC Source my entire client base as long as they continue producing a world class product.I really enjoyed doing buisness with PC Source. They take professionalism to a new height in the computer industry. "
"I was really impressed that they had my computer built and shipped within two days. Everything arrived as ordered. Very pleased."
"Accidentally shipped me a higher priced/better valued CPU fan for same price as the one I actually ordered, though I'm not complaining! Also, I ordered a motherboard, CPU, and fan and I think to save shipping costs and space, they installed the CPU and fan directly on the motherboard for me. Since I've never installed a CPU before, I really liked that. Not 100% satisfied that they don't have a 1-800 number or they don't have security on their website for ordering, but I suppose that keeps costs down. At least they have email. Overall, I'm satisified because the products work, were very reasonably priced, and shipping was in a timely manner."
