"This company, despite branding and domain name might suggest, is actually just an online distributor of Pelican cases. You can only determine this by reading their About page. I discovered this too late to help me, but it feels misleading in retrospect.

My complaint is with both their business practices, and their customer service. The situation is that I ordered over $200 of merchandise which was never delivered. After waiting for them to complete their inquiry with FedEx, they claimed that I was responsible for the lost merchandise because they do not ship with signature required, and that there is a note on the receipt page stating that customers must request this service separately or else they will be held liable for lost merchandise. I did not see this notice after the order had already been completed, and find this to be an unusual business practice that I have not encountered at any other online merchant.

I was polite during the multiple calls it required to follow up on this matter. I would have been willing to overlook all this inconvenience and delay had they been willing to take responsibility for their policy of not shipping with signature required, and to refund or replace lost merchandise in the uncommon event that a customer's order never got to them. But instead of helping me they sent an email stating that their receipt page has the aforementioned note and that there was "nothing they could do" to address the situation. But hey, at least they apologized and offered to help me place a new order.

UPDATE:
This merchant's claim that they are not liable for undelivered merchandise for which they did not request delivery confirmation, is false according to their credit card agreement, and the fact they continue to dispute this makes them all the more shady and dishonest. Quoted from the Visa Chargeback Management handbook:

"Proof of Delivery/Proof of Pick-Up:
If you are shipping merchandise without requesting proof of delivery, consider the costs and benefits of doing so compared to the value of the merchandise you ship. Proof of delivery or pick-up, such as certified mail or a carrier’s certification that the merchandise was delivered to the correct address or picked up and signed for by the cardholder, will allow you to return the chargeback if the customer claims the merchandise was not received."

The fact that they do in fact require signature service over a certain amount shows that they are aware of this fact, yet choose to avoid the costs and hassle of signature service on less expensive shipments, while attempting to defraud their less knowledgable customers when problems arise. They claim to do this because 'customers demanded it', but that doesn't mean they are free to put the cost of this policy decision onto the minority of their customers who are affected by it.

Since I was not aware of their policy not to insure their shipments, nor agreed to waive this protection, a chargeback is a perfectly valid recourse. The minimum that this seller needs do in order to protect themselves, and provide boilerplate customer service, would be to add a checkbox to their checkout page which allows customers to opt-out of required signature service if they choose, but even that would be a stretch and still reflects poor customer care since lost merchandise more adversely affects their customers and is a known cost of doing business that can be written off.

"I really love the cooler. I have 2 comments to relay. First, there wasn't a size comparison photo on the site and the cooler (45Q) is larger than I suspected. I probably would have gone with the 35Q or another brand had I known the actual size. Secondly, I couldn't find any info on the dry basket that's made for this cooler. Now I'll have to pay an additional shipping charge to get that lil jewel. Oh, and the cooler arrived in a box that was all but distroyed. Fed-Ex totally lived up to the mantra, "fragile just means it's packed better". I didn't need a blade to get to the cooler. The shipping box was ripped apart and crushed. I have pic's if you want them.

"The Pelican case was delivered in a timely manner, however, the container it was shipped in was clearly dropped. The pelican case inside has a flattening on one of the rounded corners it hit so hard. The case is fine otherwise and I have a lifetime warranty, so I will keep and use it daily."
