"I ordered from Potomac Distribution a year ago and the order went well. I needed to order the same thing again and so, once again looked to Potomac Distribution. But, before doing so again, I decided to check here on what people were saying. My only concern, and the reason I gave them only 4 stars is because of their website. So, where do I begin? I'm not keen on the user-friendliness of the website but my primary concern is over their security. Since I ordered last year I forgot my password to their website *and* my email address changed. I tried "forgot my password" (before remembering that my email address had changed) and that of course went nowhere. So, I was left with no choice but to email them and see if I could authenticate myself to them enough that they could do something. To be clear, up to this point, they are guilty of no fault whatsoever. It was my fault for forgetting my password and changing my email address. They responded to my email, apparently so convinced that it was me emailing them that they went ahead and changed my email address to my new address and they included my password. That made me a little nervous for two reasons. First, I don't believe I provided enough information that anyone should have assumed it was me emailing such that they would change my email address and send me the password. Second, I didn't like my password in the clear. So, the moment I received the email my estimation of them dropped (I actually expected that they'd tell me I needed to setup a new account, or they'd quiz me on some more information to truly confirm it was me). After seeing the email I immediately went to their website to change my password. But, as far as I can tell, I have no ability to do so. On the flip side, and this MAY explain things in their eyes, I can't see where they have stored my payment information. So, it may be that since they don't store it (I believe), that they feel they can have lower security requirements. But, as someone who develops transactional websites for banks, that's not a good way of viewing this.

Anyway, let me sum up my review by saying that they have the items I want at good prices and they were responsive with the one order I placed. I was heartened to see others here having the same experience. However, I am concerned about their website security and processes and would feel better about them if they shored those up. Due to my concerns, I will still order from them but I'll only do so when I feel the necessity is high (such as their price is sooooo much better than anyone elses, or they have a thing and no one else does). I do hope they change a few things in the security and process area, as these don't seem like onerous changes, and I would make them tops on my list to order from."
