3-day shipping promised; projector arrived 30 days later

"Tl;dr - I'm not one to write reviews often but my experience with Projector People can be summarized as uncaring and incompetent and definitely NOT worth your time. Ordered a HU80KA LG 4K Laser projector with "guaranteed" 3-days shipping, it came 30 days later!

I reached out to Projector People multiple times that month specifically to my sales rep Sarah Buss-Fonk via phone and email. Not only was she unapologetic for the delay and kept saying it was coming in just 3-more days (untrue), when I asked for a tracking number she gave me one for an accessory that came with it instead. When the projector again didn't come after an additional week's delay, Sarah acknowledged Projector People still hadn't shipped the projector in the first place!

Instead of taking responsibility for the mistake, Sarah tried to blame the manufacturer of the projector and recommended I call them to complain (and in the process named the WRONG manufacturer over email proving she wasn't paying any attention). When I explained it wasn't the manufacturer, but Projector People who guaranteed 3-day shipping, she claimed that I "could have cancelled the order at any time" and stopped responding to my calls/emails altogether asking for a refund or a discount.

I called Projector People asking for a manager to call me back. No manager would talk to me and no one at Projector People attempted to call me. Instead, when I called in I was directed to voice mails that were never returned. Finally, I had to ask a poor secretary for a manager's email and put the manager on the month-long email thread with Sarah showing weeks without any response and multiple instances of Sarah telling me it has shipped when it hadn't. Only then did the manager acknowledge my request to return the unopened projector that came a month late and get a refund.

2 stars instead of 1 because once I did get approval for a refund, it was done quickly.

In summary, Projector People sales reps and management were unresponsive and cowardly, hoping I would just give up and take a projector that should have come in 3-days in a month. It took many calls and emails to even get a refund for an unopened, returned projector. Small companies like this have to have good customer service. I could have gotten the projector for the same price on Amazon Prime with included 2-day shipping. Don't shop at Projector People, it is made up of people who don't care about customers.

Lie about there stock and return charge 15%

"I bought a BenQ projector it said 2 days delivery but almost two weeks passed no delivery called them and they said their waiting for them to get them in stock. RETURN POLICY IS NOT HASSLE FREE 30DAYS THEY WILL CHARGE 15% OF UR PURCHASE PRICE. AND THEY KEEP SAYING WE WILL EMAIL YOU FOR RETURN INSTRUCTIONS BUT CALLED THEM 3 TIMES AND NO EMAIL."

No customer service

"I accidentally purchased the wrong bulb ($220) and tried to reach customer service via emails and the RMA request form on their website. No one ever wrote back. I got tired of waiting and decided to just send the bulb back with a note asking for a refund or a replacement bulb, but never heard back. I will not use this company in the future. "

Overpriced and Pompous

"Contacting them about a new projector. Their price was 12% higher than other AUTHORIZED dealers online. They seemed very put offish and arrogant and stated "We sell for $xxxx.**** all day long." and immediately assumed the other company was not authorized. Sorry Donna, don't want to be a downer, but your price is not the best. Sell to someone else "all day long" for that price. I can save significant dollars going elsewhere, with, I may add, an AUTHORIZED dealer and a company that has a 10/10 rating with 80+ reviews on here. "

Great experience!

"Worked with sales rep Donna via chat and phone. She was informative, made suggestions and even threw in some discounts to help me out. I purchased the Optoma UHZ65 and a 119" motorized screen from Draper. Projector came in 2 days as she indicated (in the Tampa area) and now I'm waiting on the screen to be shipped. (as expected it take a few days as they're made to order)"

"My projector arrived at my house within 2 business days of ordering. The ordering process was easy. Most importantly when I called them with a follow up question regarding my order I was able to speak with a helpful sales representative almost instantly."

Bad service

"Ordered a projector from them to avoid local sales tax. They wouldn't take my order because I gave a fake phone number so my number doesn't get sold. Never had a business so picky about there service that they will not do business with you if they don't have your number to sell. Look elsewhere if your careful about online ordering like I am."

Customer Service going downhill

"I ordered a couple of projectors from this company and have had great experiences on both in the past. Recently, I used their online chat feature to inquire about a projector and didn't receive the most friendly service. I was kind of taken aback by this. The person on the on the other end named "Lisa" called me in the middle of our instant message conversation to tell me that basically I was asking too many questions too fast and that she's the only one working there in the evening. First of all, why does the customer care that you are the only person working there? A customer just wants their questions answered. I didn't care if would take her a few minutes to respond on the chat. She tried to make me feel like I was super inconveniencing her for asking questions which was very odd. She kept stressing that she was the only person there like it was my fault I was asking questions. The funniest part is that in the instant messaging she mentioned she can call me when she has more information on the projector, then later she said I can't expect her to call me because they have so many customers that they help that calling someone personally is not possible. Well then why did you offer to call me?! Seriously it was comical. Based on this experience, it has left a seriously sour taste for me and I probably wouldn't do business with them again for this reason. There are so many other authorized projector dealers that are willing to provide excellent customer service and answer your questions in a polite manner. "

Ordered a projector on sale..but it was just bluff

"I ordered a Epson 2045 projector on 7/22 which had on sale for $549.But person called me next business day and said that is back order it will be shipped after AUG and asked me to cancel the order if I cant wait. …Though there was no such information during the order and infact it shown me delivery date as 7/27 when order placed. And also asked would like to see some other projectors as well. He also mentioned its current prize now is $849 and he doesn’t know why Epson sold it for $549, I Dont understand how Epson can sell from someone’s website without letting them know...Anyway prize in Amazon still had $649..The same sale prize was there in other sellers but i made mistake by going to this company and i missed the deal from other sellers due to their mistakes. Look like that is the reason why they mention as they call customer before shipping .So that they can just avoid the sale prize and customer can cancel the order. Anyway its very disappointing as its my first business with this company. That's why i love shopping with Amazon..."

"Kirk was nice and tries his best to be helpful. How ever the person in charge Jen was unprofessional and seemed that she doesn't care about her job nor the clients. after spending close to 1000 used she treated me like dirt. She was either sick, out for emergency, out to lunch to not at her desk and when I caught her finally she was run and annoyed and did not help me
I would recommend spending money with a company that has a better client service.

Very reliable and reputable online projector seller

"Used them to buy a Panasonic PT-AE8000U projector 3 years ago and the entire transaction and experience was perfectly smooth and easy. No issues. Projector was new, covered by official Panasonic warranty (which I unfortunately needed to utilize near the end of the 2 year warranty period) and shipped quickly. Would use again for any projector purchases."

"Projector People sent us a very well insulated box to secure the TV projection screen lamp/bulb. In the box was 2 filter and Panasonic installation packet. They shipped it overnight. This bulb was more expensive but WORTH IT. Previously we ordered from Projector Lamps World - they sent an aftermarket low quality bulb that made our TV look terrible and no adjusting brightness when you have a poor quality bulb. It shipped in a small non-insulated box, no filters, no installation packet and we wasted $130. SO order from Project People !"

Started poorly, ended well.

"On Jan. 4th, I ordered a Panasonic projector online that was shown to be in stock, as well as included free two-day shipping. Once I completed the order, it showed free Ground Shipping, so I called to confirm the two-day shipment. Told to leave a message, I did. No callback. Next day, I saw that an accessory lamp I also ordered was shipped, but not the projector. So I called again. Left a message. No response. No shipment made. I have now sent an email canceling the order, as I have no intention of doing business with this type of duplicitous and unresponsive organization. Too many other options out there.

Update: After posting this review, I got a call from a sales rep, who checked on the issue for me. Ultimately, I got the projector late on Day 2, but oddly never received a shipping notice.

"Customer service is great. I ordered an Epson projector in Dec last year which got some promotion with $200 gift card. But it became back-order because the sale was too hot during the Christmas season. They made some effort to make sure it was delivered just before the Christmas day. Also they sent me the giftcard right away after I reported that I still have not got my gift card yet."

"Highly, highly disappointed! I ordered an Epson projector on Dec 1st, 2014. It's now Jan 5th, and I still don't have the projector, and I don't even know when it will arrive! They charged my credit card on Dec 1st! They have been stringing me along for weeks, and the person at projector people who has been "helping" me with this order is not at all apologetic, and never answers emails. I would never order from them again!"
