"I bought a Benchmade limited edition knife from Rei last January and it shipped very fast.
About three weeks after I received my knife, I go back on their website because I was planning to buy a second one and notice that the price has dropped 25% since my first purchase. Because it was a 200$ knife I felt a bit frustrated so I wrote them an e-mail expressing my frustration at having overpaid for being one of the early buyers.
Their customer service immediately answered me saying they had a price guarantee policy and that they would check if my order qualified. The very next day I get an e-mail telling me I indeed qualified for a price adjustment refund and that I would receive it on my credit card. About a week later I received 50$ back on my card.
I buy a lot of knives online and usually it is a traumatic experience, sometimes you are just lucky to receive what you ordered. My experience buying with REI was extremely positive, it is good to know that there are merchants out there that actually value their customers' satisfaction.
Something tells me that in this grim economic environment those merchants are the ones that are more likely to survive. "

"I purchased a UV monitor from them on the 17th. I paid for the UPS ground shipping option. They actually sent the item to me via UPS 2 day air. I was very happy about that. Their order tracking on the site is pretty slow, because it wasn't updated until the 19th with the tracking details. I was really surprised when the package came the next morning. Overall, I had a great experience with them and I would buy from them again."
"This is a pretty good place to get your outdoor gear. Their selection is very good and their website is VERY helpful as it has a lot of expert tips on the many different outdoor activities such as climbing, camping, or cycling.
I placed my order on some mountain bike shorts on the night of Dec 5, so it went through the next business day, Wed. 12/6. I added some REI anti-bacterial wound wipes to my order so I could get free shipping.
The only problem I had with them is with their shipping tracking. On Sat. 12/8 I got an e-mail saying my items were shipped, it had a USPS delivery confirmation number given. That same day I got the wound wipes via USPS. I don't know when they were sent out but it did come quickly. However, my bike shorts were nowhere to be found. I didn't get an e-mail saying their were two different shipments and their website had no indication of it. The packing slip didn't say anything about two different shipments either.
I was confused so I contacted their online live help. I had to wait a few minutes before someone could chat with me, but when they did they were helpful and provided me with the UPS tracking number for my shorts. Eventually the tracking number finally showed up on their order stats page of the website. According the the tracking number that item was shipped on 12/7 and i received it almost a week later on the 13th. It was UPS ground from WA to IN so it took a while. This is kind of weird since the reason I bought the wipes was to get free shipping and they end up spending more to send the wipes in a separate shipment.
Their shipment tracking process is kinda slow, it needs to be updated more quickly and let the customer know if there are two shipments in their e-mails. This is just a very minor gripe and it's the holiday season, so I don't really blame them. It's not a big enough problem that I would give them a "somewhat satisfied" rating. At least they got my orders shipped out within a day or two."
"I placed on order with REI for items that I was told were in stock. Perhaps they were. However, it took them four days to ship the package and when they finally did, they shipped it via USPS Parcel Post, the slowest possible method, despite the fact that I paid and asked for UPS Ground which has never taken more than three days. When they didn't ship on the second day after I ordered (and in this day and age in-stock items can surely be expected to be shipped by then) I inquired politely whether I should opt for a faster shipping method in case they couldn't ship out in time to make their original delivery estimate. They simply told me that they would ship out that very day and that the items should arrive on or before the estimated delivery date. The next day, when they still hadn't shipped it, I inquired again and was told that they would ship that day for sure and that I would still get the package on time. I was beginning to get worried now because I needed the items, which were replacements for essential equipment on my 5 week deployment. I asked them to please upgrade the shipping to something faster as they hadn't shipped out yet. I was told that would be impossible. Alas, they didn't ship that day again. Finally, the fourth day after I placed the order they shipped. With the slowest possible method. I am livid with rage. I can understand if they didn't ship the day they first promised to ship. But then nothing happened on the second day either? This smells awfully fishy. So now we shall see whether these complete imbeciles can actually made good on their promised delivery date. I cannot see how that would be possible. I am ordering replacements (for the replacements) from a much more trustworthy retailer at the moment, who will ship out TODAY. That's service. This, however, is a painful debacle."

It took a while for the items to arrive, but the estimated date that they gave me on checkout was accurate. Prices were excellent. When an item that I ordered wasn't in stock, they e-mailed me a 20% off coupon. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again."
