"Like many others, my credit card was stolen for purchasing goods from Sears and Best Buy. Avoid this store completely."
"Buy.com is now Rakuten.com and should be crooked.com or badbusiness.com
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.........So....after hours of researching and then buying equipment from what I thought to be a reputable company I was pushed over to a seemingly third party mom and pop filtering shop and removed as a potential customer. Buy.com specifically is who I am referring to. Apparently the company has been bought out by Rakuten Inc of Japan and the apple has fallen far from the proverbial tree. In summary I had three fairly large orders (thousands of dollars) purchased with two credit cards. What happened was on the last order (which was a separate client and purchased almost a week later) was paid for with another credit card. Rakuten stated that they could not verify the billing address on the second card. So in less than half a day of them sending me the verification issue email they cancelled all three of my orders. No phone call, just an email asking me to verify. When I went to verify the address my account no longer worked. So how do I verify. I then proceed to try and get in touch with them but couldn't find a number in any of the emails or on their website site because they don't want to talk to you. I finally found it searching through google. So I call and go through the typical call center garbage when I supposedly get customer service. They tell me that they can't help me and that I need to call verification at ***-***-****...which just happens to be the same number I just called. So I hang up and call that number and what do you think happened. I get an answering machine stating to leave a name and a number and the girl will get right back with me . Sure she will.... After calling back several times and leaving messages and aggravating customer service she finally calls me back. After putting me on hold nearly a half an hour she tells that they closed my account and that it will not be reinstated. Her reason, the company policy doesn't allow two credit cards with different names. I pleaded with her to find some sort of workaround but she laughed and said sorry it's closed. Clearly she had no interest in helping . So where does that leave me and my customers. Exactly! right back to Square freakin one. Now the company I am doing a time sensitive job for is way behind schedule and I am looking totally incompetent. Not just that, now I find out that Rakuten.com has a security breach and peoples credit cards are getting littered with bogus charges. So now on top of telling my customers that I don't have your orders so I can't complete the job and uh oh by the way, do you mind cancelling your credit cards and getting a new number since the company I chose to get your products from apparently has security issues and seemingly condones fraud. Lesson learned,,,trust none of them and continually do your homework on them before every purchase because you just never know when the financials go red behind closed doors.
I truly believe the reason they cancelled my account was due to two factors. One because I ordered a highly sought cad modeling laptop for a very very low price. And two they had a special deal where they would 20x your point total and my points jumped way up. Those cheapskates are not gonna loose one damn cent and did not want to honor those points or give away that laptop so they made a reason to close my account. They had no problem saying goodbye to me and my current or future purchases. Well I say GO TO HELL Rakuten and I hope no one else I know gets burned by these fraudulent crooks.
Upon further investigation I found this:
Look at what these customers had to say.

And if you need further proof just google rakuten complaints and hope you have a ton of spare time. I am just sick of big companies taking a dump on the avg man because they know there really isn't a damn thing we can do about it. This concludes my tirade."
"I have had 2 different credit cards hacked. One was a business card and the other was a personal CC. I called support and they gave me the run around. The charges were totaling over $10000+.
The first credit card was a business card that I use on the internet alot at a few different computer stores. It was actually hacked over 3 or 4 different times over the course of a 2 years. I was unsure where I was getting hacked until I used my personal cc at rakuten.com and it was hacked about 8 hours later that night."
"DO NOT USE RAKUTEN, I purchased some lug nuts for my car for 12.99 everything went fine, 3 weeks later a charge is placed onto my card for $195.74. I attempted to contact rakuten, which NEVER replied, after 4 emails and contacting my card issuing bank they removed the charge but never sent so much as a single email. This is the policy of rakuten, get your card number, add false charges, hope that you don't notice. total scam, read other reviews you find dozens of stories just like this."
"Only do business with Rakuten if you enjoy credit card fraud. They have had a data breach and have done nothing to acknowledge or fix the issue. Over 200 Slickdeals members affected."
"Placed an order with Rakuten.com for about $3000 when they were offering 17X Rakuten points. I received an email confirmation that I will receive 49xxx points, nearlu 50K points, which translates to $500. After a few days, this got changed to 25000 points, when I called them they said that was the limit. Why send me an email that I received 49000 points and then cancel/truncate the points. No intimation of the change, I realized this when I wanted to actually use the points. Called CS and they said that was their policy to give max. 25000 points. But when I insisted the email I received saying 49000 points, they had no proper response. "
"Bought a Brother MFC-9460CDN printer for $422.99 and quickly received my thank you for purchasing that printer email. Next day I received an order cancellation notice "because you have a PayPal UnVerified Account or you are shipping to a PayPal Unconfirmed Address". Of course the address is verified; I have a business and frequently buy using the same address through PayPal. I immediately went to their website and tried buying the same printer with a credit card without using PayPal, but they quickly changed the price of the printer to $551.00. They do that to attract traffic to their website but at the same time they get to anger people. This company is destined to disappear from the web. The fact that they exist as a company is a marketing miracle. "
"I ordered a camera from Rakuten and it of course was eventually sent by a third party. Price was good and I'm happy with the purchase. Now the big problem with Rakuten? Credit Card fraud. A few days after I ordered someone tried to use my card to make an online purchase for over $600. My credit card fraud team contacted me and the charge did not go through. I thought the timing was suspicious so did a query on Rakuten and credit card fraud and saw many people with the same problem. Right after a purchase someone tried to use the same card for fraudulent purchases. Maybe the only way to buy is with a preloaded card for only the amount of your purchase. Now I need to get a new card and that is a huuuuge pain. "
"I ordered a refurbished monitor via rakuten.com. The website listed 2-5 business day shipping for an extra charge of $15, which I paid. The receipt I received half an hour later listed 3-6 business day shipping—and I was on a schedule. My initial e-mail to them went unanswered. When I called on the next business day to correct the situation and find out actual shipping status and times, the woman I spoke with—clearly reading from a script—gave me no information. When I asked for the seller's contact information, she started at the top of the script. Again. The number I was finally given for the reseller was for the wrong department. When I eventually got through to the correct person at the reselling company, she said that shipping was, indeed, 3-6 business days—and wasn't aware that rakuten.com listed standard shipping that was cheaper/slower than that.
When I cancelled the order, rakuten.com suddenly became very concerned with my order and fulfilling it. If they spent as much time on customer service as they do on damage control, I'd still be a customer."
"I ordered from Rakuten through their merchant seller Buydig. Although the item was supposed to ship in 2 business days, it took 6 business days just to ship the item and then another 6 business days for delivery because they used Fedex smartpost. Then, when I went to cancel, I had to deal with Buydig, not Rakuten, who told me to reject the package and a refund would be processed when it was returned to them. What kind of customer service is that? Never again!"
"Credit Card info was stolen after shopping at Rakuten. Worst experience with data security. I will never ever buy from this site. Does not have the basic infrastructure security of e-commerce shopping in place yet."
"A few days after my CREDIT CARD purchase at Rakuten, unknown charges started appearing on my credit card. I was greedy and wanted the points, so didn't use the other pay services. I may be paying for that mistake for a long time to come.
Worst financially secure data management company!!!!!
All their data is probably processed in a lowest-cost country with lowest paid workers who are eager to make some kickbacks selling client data with credit card info. Either that, or the data collection systems are the easiest to hack into and they absolutely don't care about informing users or stopping the problem. Of course, they are NOT a US-Based company so they are probably not bound by those ideals.
Client details and credit card info are often enough to wreck a persons credit report.
I saw the YEARS of other similar comments from other users and figured it must have been solved by now and took the chance of ordering by credit card."
"ordered a box of dot markers on 4/21/2013. shipped on 4/23/2013. received on 4/27/2013. transaction went fine."
"All of my 3 credit cards information used on rakuten.com have been stolen! Stay away from Rakuten.com!!"
"I encountered the same problem. The next day morning American Express customer service called me to verify some charges. The charge is over $1000 from a shipping company. Since both sending and receiving address have nothing to do with my home address.
American Express had doubt and called me to verify. Luckly I got the call and AMEX denied the charges.
Be careful when you shop there.
Another thing. Amazon usually doesn't charge the sales tax if the 3d party seller is no located in the same state. Rakuten charges sales tax regardless. I am in CA, BeachCamera is NJ. I was charged sales tax for that."
