"I had a terrible experience with "Royal Camera." They posted an excellent price for a Sony DSC-H1 camera and I ordered it online on a Saturday night. I began to be suspicious when I received no e-mail confirmation of the purchase. Two days later I sent an e-mail asking for confirmation. After receiving no response, and becoming increasingly worried, I finally called their phone number.
At this point I was forwarded to three different people, each of whom said they would forward me to someone "who could confirm the order." Any one of them could have confirmed it. In actuality, they were forwarding me to their bait-and-switch fast-talking scam artist. The contents of the "conversation" were this man pushing me to buy accessories that I didn't need, and me politely saying, "no, I just want the camera I ordered." He refused to clarify the prices and what, exactly, I would be getting. He became belligerent and suggested that I was an idiot if I did not accept his "great" offer. He started talking about Japanese versions and American versions and assorted mumbo jumbo, and at that point I asked to cancel the order. He said he would. End of call.
This store is not worthy of anyone's business. The price I was offered was not the real price and I was treated in an abusive manner. Please save yourself the trouble and shop elsewhere. Stores like this give e-commerce a bad name."
"I purchased a camera on Friday, March 3, and the company did not call me until March 8. When they called me, they told me they would not ship anything until I confirmed my address. We confirmed, and then he tried to sell me $200 in accessories that I didn't want. I told him that since he just gave me this new information, I would need time to think about it. He got annoyed, put me on hold, and when he returned on the phone, he was very rude. He started to rant to me about needing these important accessories and about what a great company Royal Camera was. I told him that I would call him back, and he said, "Look, we have your credit card number and your address. I don't need to wait around for you to call me back." I wasn't really sure what he was talking about, or why he was getting so angry, but I thought it would be best to just cancel my order, which I did. "
"Royal Camera royally sucks! After waiting over two months for a backorder, they continued to stall out farther on each status check,I cancelled my order...don't bother with Royal "Bait & Switch"!"
"Canon 20D was advertised for $685.00 with shipping of $59.99. I was willing to pay that b/c the camera body was priced so well. I had called earlier to ask "what's in the box?" which they informed me was body only, no accessories, meant for someone upgrading from the 10D. Fine. I can get the accessories for $200 somewhere else. Placed the order Jan. 23, no email confirmation. Called Jan 25 - they informed me that they needed my security code from my ccard to confirm the order (red flag). He then proceeded to tell me that I needed the battery (redder flag). I insisted that I already had a battery. He tried to sell me a high speed flash card because the camera required it to work and didn't want me to lose my images. Yeah right. I told him I'd risk it. He insisted that I needed this card to stay ahead of the game and that the camera would function better. Then he told me that the camera was in Korean - whatever... He said I'd need a $400 translator kit, but that it would be worth it so I could use the camera. When I tried to leave, insisting that I had not researched these topics enough to make the purchase, HE insisted that they were the best-price around. I agreed, but quickly canceled my order, knowing that I could get the camera from a reputable place for $1100 with no worries or run-arounds."
"HELLO
I ORDERED CANON 20D AND LENSE AT ROYAL CAMERA.COM
AFTER I ORDERED ONLINE SOMEONE CALLED FROM COMPANY ASKED ME UPGRADE LENSE I THOUGHT THEY MIGHT HAVE NOT HAVE ON STOCK OF WHAT I ORDERED, SO I SAID YES. AND THEN THEY CHARGE $600 DOLLER THAT I NEVER EXPECTED. (when i find out it costs only 299 at best buy)
SO I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS HORROBLE THEY DONT WANT TO LISTEN WHAT I AM EXPLAING THEY JUST KEEP SAYING "ONCE YOU RECIEVED PACKAGE CALL US BACK".(RONY SHY) I DIDN'T WANT TO CHARGE FOR ANOTHER 5%RESTOCK FEE SO I TRY TO EXPLAIN WHAY DO THEY OFFER THAT LENSE AND NOT WARN THE CHARGING FOR IT.
I GUESS THIS WEBSITE IS LIKE OTHER TELEMARKETING SERVICE THAT SCAMP THE CUSTOMER.
DON'T BUY HERE IT SUCKS!!!!!"
"Purchased digital camera via website and agreed to pay $79 for "3 day select" shipping. Got phone call 4 days later to confirm the order and was advised nobody was there due to the holidays. The man confirmed the order and I asked to confirm that it was a U.S. model camera. He confirmed U.S. nodel and that it would ship the next day to arrive here on Monday 9th. (No Saturday delivery). On the 9th when it didn't arrive, I called and was informed that these "International" models were not in stock and would not be in for 10 days or so. He asked if I wanted to change my order to a U.S. model for more money. I complained to hime and he said he was not going to argue, If I wanted to cancel then cancel. I did."
"It was a classic bait and switch. They charged me for the American versions of the FUji FinPix Pro but sent me the Japanese version. The box had an Asian language printed all over it and in the box it said, this camera warranty is not valid in the U.S.A. On top of the the manual was copied and stapled together. When I called and told them that they sent the less expensive version, I was told that I was wrong and that the camera with foriegn writing and invalid warranty was the correct camera. He was very rude and rushed. Because I was in a bind and needed the camera for my trade I bit the bullet and kept the camera. It died on me 2 months later. (CCD Black death inherent in the FInePix S@ cameras) I was left with a dead camera and no warranty. Royal Camera has no soul. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THEM!"
"I purchased a Digital Rebel XT package totaling over $800.00 on the 23rd, finally received an email from the company on the 27th requesting I call to confirm the order. I did as requested. I was greeted by a service rep that refused to give me his name. Instead he attempted to sell me additional “absolutely necessary” Items. After turning down the first item, he attempted to sell me a battery and charger. When I questioned why a battery didn’t come with the item (knowing full well one did) I was told “Company policy”
I inquired about the price of the battery and charger and was told “an additional $299.00”. I asked for the Item # and brand, he refused to give me the information. I told him to cancel the order. I was hung up on.
I immediately called back, giving him the benefit of the doubt that we were cut off. I got the same customer service person. He again refused to give me his name, I stated my invoice # he said yes you canceled the order and hung up on me again.

"Yesterday I ordered an Canon Digital Rebel XT at the Royal Camera Shop. Today there came an e-mail requesting me to call a number to confirm my order. So I did... In the beginnning the sir from Royal Camera hassled me to take some additional items like
a battery charger for "only" $270 more and then a world wide 5 year warranty for $250, which is very important, as he said. I said I just wanted the things I ordered and nothing more. I felt very unsure about this order, and as I said, that I first had to think about it, he just hung up.
I googled and found this review side and decided to cancel my order. So I recalled again and the same person was on the phone. I said I wanted to cancel my order and then he asked me five times, why I wished to cancel the order. I just said that I had changed my mind. Then he said, I had no brain, there's no light inside my head, and that I am so stupid and then he said he cancelled my order. I was very speechless about this insulting...I instantly blocked my credit card, I disavow this shop and I don't trust it!!
I think this shop consists of a bunch of crooks. They attract you by low prices, and on the phone they hassle you to take overpriced additional items, which I bet, you won't need. When you don't do as they want, the curse you. PEOPLE, JUST SPARE THIS EXPERIENCE!! "
"I stopped this company completing my order.
They sent me the standard email asking for a phone verification. When I did so I was asked if I wanted to buy more stuff. I declined. I sent them a scanned image of my credit card and drivers license for verification. They did not send me a verification email and a list of the items to be shipped off. So I called them again to ask for that verification, since he had changed some of the items to 'better - more expensice' gear - which I could NOT locate on the nikon website. This time the operator was not very friendly and nearly did not have time to talk to me. I got suspicious of the AOL email from customer service and blocked my credit card. Then called the company and asked them to cancel the order and apologised for the inconvenience. THEY DID NOT WANT TO STOP!
'You can wire transfer' - I declined!
'What if I give you a 100$ discount' - I declined!
'What if I give you a 200$ discount' - I declined!
In the end I had to ask him to JUST CANCEL MY ORDER! YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET PAYED ANYWAY! He finally understood and just hung up!
What a SAD way to run a business!
STAY AWAY from ROYAL CAMERAS - IT IS A SCAM!
I nearly bought 2285$ worth of camera equipment!
I SHOULD HAVE READ THE REVIEWS FIRST!"
"I ordered a camera, they then needed to "confirm" the order and in the process tried to upsell me. They presented me with a package offer that included a battery because for some reason, the starter kit I purchased did not include one (does not make any sense at all, but its all part of the scam).
I then received the outfit I ordered and it was a different camera... a lower end model to the one I did order. They tried to tell me it was the same camera, then they tried to tell me the one I wanted was a foreign gray market camera, then they tried to tell me the one they sent was the update of the one I ordered, none of it true.
Finally, they agreed to refund the order, but not the shipping and they wanted to charge me a re-stocking fee as well.
I strongly recommend you never do business with this outfit... they are dishonest and use games and deception so they do not have to honor the prices they publish in thier ads."
"Concerning:
Royal Camera and Video
342 Kings Highway
Brooklyn, NY 11223
On 12/8/05, I contacted the above by telephone to order a camera as a Christmas present. I specifically identified the camera and the associated kit of accessories. During the call, the order taker suggested I include other items such as filters, a year warranty, a larder battery, battery charger, and a larger memory card. When I declined some of the items, he suggested a slightly more expensive kit than the one I ordered that included the items I did not want. However, the kit he suggested had lenses of lesser grade and I declined. I indicated I wanted the original kit as I had ordered. The sale being complete, he took the appropriate information and ended the call.
On 12/15/05, I received the merchandise. The camera was not the one I ordered and the kit was the one that I refused with the inferior lenses. The larger battery and charger was not included. I immediately contacted their customer service department and identified myself and discussed the problem. The person indicated that they made a decision to substitute the inferior lenses for the ones I ordered because they were lighter. I said I wanted the original lenses. I also indicated the camera was wrong as well as I did not receive the separately ordered larger battery and charger. He became abusive and indicated that they would need to replace whatever was not right. I indicated I did not want the merchandise and would like to return it for a refund. He became more abusive and said there would be a 5% restocking charge and the shipping charges that were free would now be deducted from the credit. I indicated I should not be charged anything since they made all of the mistakes. He indicated it was company policy. I indicated that was not good customer service. He gave me a return authorization number and indicated he was the owner and that was the way he likes it since he makes a lot of money that way. He then began cursing me and indicated he would “come after me”. I indicated he was a crook and hung up the phone.
I returned the merchandise as was described on their website."
"I can verify a lot of the "very dissatisfied" reviews on Royal Camera. They are extremely rude, individuals you are speaking with do not want to provide their names. They are extremely hurried and tell you that the best deal is the most expensive one. They know nothing about the products. I am so glad I found this website (resellerratings.com) before I purchased and didn't have to go through what everybody else goes through."
"I bought a JVC Camcorder from them and never received the starter kit that I was charged $99.99 for. When I called them about it, they just argued with me and said "send it back then". I think that people actually do send things back to them and they are ripped off even more. I for one will not buy anything from them and if you do, GOOD LUCK. "
"I found this site through google, and i look and they have a really good deal on a vx2100. So i buy the camera , hours later i get a email sayin call this number to confirm i do, and they start telling me its a JAPAN model and that it comes with no warranty, shorter cables or something like that, and everything is in Japanese (and i have to send it to sony for it to be put into english) so i say i will call them back. I call sony and they have NO CLUE what i am talking about, I call royal camera back the guy says oh you have to call sony international im like whatever i want to cancel my order that hasnt been processed yet, then he starts saying its 5% restocking fee and he has charge 300 usd to cancel im like WHAT u didnt even proccess. So i am calling my credit card company and telling them whats up well see how this ends.SO watch out for them. AND they didnt say anything about this on their site."
