"I ordered a nikon d60 camera and nikon 18-200mm lens which they had listed for $849. The next day Ken at extension 283 called to tell me that the lens which i had ordered was a plastic vivitar lens and that he suggested an upgrade for more money. His explanation as to how a lens advertised as nikon could really be a vivitar lens was obviously lost on me. When i told him that i needed to discuss this with my wife first he told me that a decision had to be made now since the order was ready to ship (that was a lie). He also told me that if i cancelled there would be a $168 cancellation charge. I ended up going through with the order and agreeing to pay an additional $250 for the alleged upgrade. That night we decided that we would cancel the credit card and then cancel the order but the charges had already gone through. I told American express the whole story about the scam that these people run and that i wanted to dispute the charge. They opened up a case on it. I asked them if i should call the vendor back and tell them to cancel if they haven't shipped yet. American express told me that i didn't need to do that, that they would handle the communications. They told me to refuse the shipment when it came.
From going through the ratings I have now learned that there are multitudes of companies out there pulling these same scams. i just wished that i'd checked this site first before ordering.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY"
"Long story short...Very bad experience - Their customer service folks have attitude problem..angry/sarcastic tone.
They should be banned from doing business in America. I canceled my order. I was lucky to get out of this scam. I called my credit card company and asked them to de-activate my card."
"This company is totally worthless. I think this is just a clearing house for scamming credit cards or something.
Price was very good, but I was skeptical so when I placed the order I called and specifically asked if it was a complete package, north american product and if it were in stock. All these were yes. So I placed the order.
After waiting a week I finally started calling. You have to wait at least a half hour on hold. I gave up 4 times before someone eventually answered and I was told it was out of stock and wouldn't be avail for 4-6 weeks.
This company is some sort of scam. Not sure what they are trying to pull, but it's dishonest and a complete waste of time.
I just found out my credit card was hacked on the same day. What a pain in the backside.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE."
"THEY ARE SCAMMERS! BEWARE!!
We ordered from them, it was a trusted site. (that's what we found at diduprice). They called 6 times, but we didn't answer, so they sent us an e-mail. They cancelled our order, because it's not in stock. (sony sr 12 for 499.we need to wait 6-8 weeks.
we bought it at j&r. we will watch our cc."
"The people that work for this company have attitude problem. I ordered a new (according to their ad. on the web)Sony camcorder (HDR-SR12 120GB High Definition Hard Drive camcorder)on
12-15-2008 (which was listed for $499.00)and the next day I called them at the only number they listed on the web (1-***-***-****)to inquire about the accessories that is included because I did not know what came with the camera (as they did not indicate on the web ad.). Within 58 minutes I spoke to 3 people: Adam (after 22 minutes of waiting)and he transferred me to Jerry whom was handling my order. I spoke to Jerry for about 2 minutes and when I asked him what comes with the camcorder, he replied with a very fast-angry-tone of voice that what I ordered was only the body of the camcorder. So, I asked him what can I do with that? He got louder and angrier and said, "That is up to you!" and then he started arguing with me about how it would take "3 pages" to list what are included- I did not understand that part when he told before that what I ordered was just the body of the camcorder.I then asked him if I could speak to his supervisor and with an angry tone of voice, he said, "You are speaking to the supervisor!".I then told him to cancel my order and then he said that we would and then he hanged up without giving me anything concerning the cancellation. Later I called again to try to get a cancellation confirmation # and after waiting (again) for 30 minutes, Michael answered and then he transferred me to wait for customer service. I waited for about 4 minutes and I got tired of waiting and being transferred around so I hanged up. For anyone thinking about buying anything from this company, be very wishful that you will not have to call them: they will do nothing for you but raise your blood pressure. "
"Simply put, their con men. If a price is "unbelievably" low it really should be "unbelievable". I ordered a Canon HV30 video camera for the "great price" of $339(including shipping)and the next day I received an email for me to confirm the order over the phone. I called and the sales person told me the battery was temporary and would only last 15 minutes, and would I like to buy a long life battery for $149. That's when my brain turned on and I realized something was up. I told him I wanted to think about it and he said he would hold my order until I called back. I looked around and saw Canon batteries for 1/3 of the price and then Googled shopdigitaldirect.com and discovered a myriad of disgruntled people who had descibed the exact scenario that I was experiencing. I called back and said that I didn't want the extra battery and asked when the camera would ship. He told me that the camera wasn't in stock and wouldn't be for 3 weeks. I said I needed the camera sooner than that and he told me he would cancel the order and hung up.
I was relieved to have gotten out of the deal having lost no money but wary of them having my credit card info. I kept a close eye on my checking account for the next few weeks. This morning I checked and there was a charge for $242 to Westen Union that I hadn't made. Western Union's fraud department said the purchase had been made over the internet. Although I can't prove it was them it is quite a coincidence. I cancelled my card and have been taught an obvious but valuable lesson in internet shopping. If it seems too good to be true it most likely is."
"Horrible! I ordered a Panasonic AX200U projector for $859. I received a call 2 days later informing me that the order did not include the bulb, and it would cost an additional $199. The person told me that this information was listed on the website. I told him I that I could get it cheaper else where and wold not buy it as such. I also told him that I had not seen the statement of the bulb not being included, and when I mentioned that I wanted to check, he hung up on me. After confirming that there was not mention of the bulb not being included, I called Shop Digital Direct to inform them of this. In the middle of my sentence the person hung up the phone on me again. I immediately called my credit card company to inform them and make sure that any charges should be disputed. "
"Thank you, thank you, thank you all for writing these reviews!! I was about to order a Canon 40D package for an AMAZING price from this website, and decided to Google them to see if I could find a promotional code for an even lower discount and found this website. Needless to say, I am not going to order from them! And what is the funniest part, is I called the company a few weeks earlier to ask if the package came with a battery (since it didn't list a battery in its package) and the customer service person was SO RUDE! He told me it didn't, and I told him in a noncritical way that I thought it might be best if they said that on their website for lack of future confusion and he told me that this website is only to serve professionals and that they would know better... Glad he knows me so well - I told him thanks for offending me and hung up on him. So, for those who were hung up on by this a-hole - I hung up on him for all of us!! Thank you again for your help!!"
"SO FAR MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN HORRIBLE. I ordered a Nikon D80 on friday Dec 5 and received confirmation of my order. On Dec 7 I get an email canceling my order. I call to find out what happened. 1st call waited for someone to answer the order confirmation extension. When he did, I explained the problem. He immediately transferred me to a voice mail machine that directed me to call back during business hours. 2nd call. Using a different strategy, I asked the rep to confirm my order is on the way. Gave him the order number and he said it was being shipped out the next day. I said are you sure because I just got a letter saying it was cancelled. HE HUNG UP ON ME. 3rd call. The rep was the only non-rude one and kindly explained that I would have to speak with customer service because he did not have the ability to access the information. Although he was nicer I do not believe him any more than the others. These guys are shady, which explains why I thought I was getting the deal of a life time. I didn't include my real order number because I have not yet finished trying to work out this problem and fear that any identifying info will prejudice my ability to get what I ordered. When this ordeal is over I will update this entry.
So called back Monday...was on hold for almost a half hour...finaly got someone who told me order cancelled because not in stock. I told them the website says otherwise....he sounded soooo surprised. It still does to...this place blows and so does Google for directing its patrons to this site."
"Ordered a Sony SR12 handycam from the site ($429) with no need for battery/packages. Phone rep offered accessories but did not push it when I said No. I think I waited a week and since no ship confirmation arrived I called to check. Got the "3-4 wk backorder" response typical if you do not order the expensive accessories (which somehow let them ship the camera that is otherwise out of stock). THEN I researched online and found this site and others discussing the bait & switch tactics. I AGREE 100%! I called back (1 hr later) & the different guy (there only seem to be a couple employees) said it was backordered 4-6 weeks (so much for "3-4") and he agreed to cancel my order with no discussion.
I called my credit card co to discuss whether to close out the card used on the order. They said "No need," and would keep close watch on my acct. "

"I too wish I had found this before I made the order. My boyfriend found this site for me and he had gotten his camera from them and had been happy with the purchase. I thought it was too good to have a Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder for only $429 when everywhere else had it for about $1000. I researched the camera and finally decided on just the camcorder without the package since the stuff in the package was cheaper elsewhere (like on tigerdirect and other such sites). I paid the extra $33 for 3 day air shipping. I was called the day after I made the order and asked for a verification of the 3 digit # on the back of my credit card. I told him thinking it was a security thing or I had mistyped it, he had all the other info like the address and order info. He then asked if I wanted the extra battery and I told him no, but then he brought the price down and so I said yes. He also included in a UV filter for only $39 which sounded good. He said he was going to give me the whole package for only $799 a savings of about $30. Well I did not do the math that fast in my head, but after I got off the phone I added it all up and it was actually an extra $45 when I added up all the individual items! I immediately tried to call the sales department and ask them about it and a recording said they were closed even though it was still within their business hours in the recording. I called the ***-***-**** number that was the caller id and I got a recording that said the number was not valid. I decided to then look up reviews for this company and found this site.
I immediately called my credit card company since they had not charged it yet. They said they could not block the charge so I had to cancel it and get a new card. In the end this is probably best since it sounded like they were about to steal my credit card info since they asked for the back 3 numbers. I would warn everyone I know against this. I guess if it is too good to be true it probably isn't real. I am not sure what they will try to do when they attempt to charge for the item, but thankfully I caught it in time. Thanks to everyone else that posted thier experiences here as well."
"This is the absolute worst on-line merchant i have ever dealt with. I was shopping for a nikon D40. This merchant had the best price by far - advertised at $315 with free shipping compared to $409.95 on Amazon. i placed the order. Two days later I received a call from "Adam" confirming the purchase. He then asked me what kind of battery I wanted since the camera didn't come with one. He quoted $75 for a 2 hour battery - new total $429.95. Apparently, i also had to pay insurance even though this was not disclosed with the prominenetly displayed "free shipping" icon. I told him I could get the same thing on Amazon with a free filter for less. He said their battery would be very short life and immediately offered me a five year battery. Silly me said ok. he then tried to sell me warranty plans and other accessories. The camera came 2 days later. What I got was the exact outfit offered by amazon with the exact same battery - so now i spent $20 more instead of $100 less. i tried calling customer service. After 20 minutes on hold I hung up. Then I called sales and said I was interested in the nikon d40 and asked what the $315 price included. The rep said it included the camera and lens. I asked if there were ANY other charges and was told NONE (i.e. no mention of insurance cost. As I was asking a question the rep hung up on me. I then called Adam back. I started to explain that what he sent me was not what he promised to send me. He said the he only made $5 on me, to call customer service, and slammed down the phone. I wish I had found this site and read all the complaints before I made the purchase - and I won't make that mistake again. I can only echo all the negative comments posted here. This vendor is hideous. With the economy what it is and vendors scrambling for sales - this experience was a real eye opener."
"ShopDigitalDirect.com is the the worst on-line merchant that I have ever encountered. I ordered a Sony Camcorder from the site because it was the lowest advertised price. When I placed the order the website stated that the product was "in-stock", about two weeks later I recieved a phone call and they told me that it was out of stock but that I would recieve the product before 15 Dec. When I call to inquire on my perchase today (2Dec08), the operator informed me that they would not recieve the item until 22 Jan 2009! Which means that I would not recieve it until Feb/Mar 2009. I don't know who these people are but they need to clean up their act if they plan on staying in business! I'll never shop there again!"
"Ripoff alert! Here is some of the BS the representative told me on the phone: "Your camera doesn't come with a battery", "The lens that comes with the kit is plastic" (After paying for an 'upgrade' I received a Nikon D40 kit lens), "There is a 12% handling fee" (not mentioned on the website or e-mail). This is the kind of company that gives internet sales a bad name. Do NOT order from them. The descriptions on the website are incomplete and misleading, then they upsell you on the phone."
