"Smart Home would only honour the warranty if I paid the return freight on the defective switch and then paid the freight on a new replacement switch (together the freight costs were almost the same as a new switch). So on Black Friday I ordered a new switch and they lost my order. When I placed a new order they would not honour the Black Friday special. Very frustrating."

"I have purchased a variety of Smarthome and Insteon products and love the concept but hate the problems. I have spent literally dozens of hours on hold and wasted a huge amount of time trying to resolve technical issues with their products. Their customer service is very poor and they do not appear to have any U.S. based phone support or service. Repeated email inquiries go unanswered, messages given thru their offshore support don't receive any follow-up and it's very difficult to obtain return authorizations for products that don't work. I should have looked up their reviews online before I started. What a waste."

"The biggest issue is the software used to operate the devices. Also, "programming" some of the devices is difficult & awkward (eg: dual 110v outlets; mini-remotes, and dimmer-8 button keypads). So far, no problems with the equipment....BUT.....A LONG Learning Curve. Definitely not for the faint-at-heart. Note: Physics, Electronics, and Programming are in my background for over 35 years. Smarthome says new software is in the works by Christmas....NOT holding my breath."
