"my house installed the solar equipment from solarcity since last December, it worked fine on 12/2015 to 1/2016, but from 2/2016 untill now, the equipment stop generating the power from about 11:00 am every day. i contacted customer service multiple times from 5 months ago, and they sent technician to check, everytime they said their equipment is ok, the case back and forth until now, it's a VERY VERY VERY BAD customer experience to me, how come the big company do business like this. and recently, I contact solar city, they just ask me wait, no response on email or phone call, and no technican come to fix. I REALLY don't like this company, and told my friends who plan to install solar panel, NEVER do business with solar city."
"First let me explain my position. Any idiot can install enough panels to produce power but it takes smart engineers to
install correctly with minimum amount of panel (less cost) to produce the same power.
I used to have a Sunrun (another solar company) for two years and their 11.2Kw system was producing 9Kw in peak hour that is 18% loss.
They admitted wrongdoing after two years of my constant bombardment of negative comments everywhere and they
uninstalled the system from my roof. Few times I met Solarcity reps in the Woodland Hills Home Depot and I left my info.
So after Solarcity contacted me I explained to Valentina Ortega who was my rep the plight I had with
Sunrun and she assured me that this will not happen with Solarcity.
So they installed 6.885Kw system last summer but did not show me how much it was producing.
Installers just simply left. I should have noticed that something is wrong right there.
I found out at the end of summer ( 21 of September) after the system was approved and turned on last year that it was producing 5Kw. That is 27% loss!!!!!
So I contacted their tech support and they told me that is normal.
After I pressed further (including complaint to BBB) they finally contacted me in January ( someone by the name Ryan) and asked me to wait till summer.
My original complaint was about the inverter because if at the nd of September it was producing 5Kw in peak hour I though the system will be producing a lot more and inverter will not be able to handled it. I found out later it is not the case.
He also said he will email me his info because I was in Las Vegas at CES so I could not write it down. He never did.
So summer came at the system still producing 5Kw.
I started more complaints that this is 27% loss and it is unacceptable.
Solarcity assigned another manager by the name Eileen Alba who was actually not available for over a week.
She said she ran analysis and everything is fine.
So I complained more and told them I am going to sue them. They started threatening me that I signed the contract for production and if I sue them I will have to go to arbitration.
They only concern about production not performance.
Another manager of Solarcity, Jimmy Bergeron | Vice President of Operations and Maintenance emailed me with lengthy explanation why the system perform the way it does but what is the point.
That means they will upsell the amount of panels thus charging more for panels obviously disregarding the performance.
If they installed panels efficiently or maybe some panels are broken the system could have been smaller so
I would have paid less. All complaints resulted in standard response that there is nothing wrong.
No one was ever sent to my house to check the system. Now it is producing 4.9Kw in peak hour or less and that is 30% loss.
So something is wrong but they don’t want to admit it. AND THAT IS HOW I GOT SCREWED!!!!!
I complained on Twitter and Facebook. Solarcity removed me from the Facebook.
I twitted Elon Musk, Lyndon Rive, Peter Rive who are top management– no response.
Also, I took a picture today at 1:45pm which is a peak hour and it is very hot and sunny day.
6885w system produces just 4698w. That is 32% loss!!!!!!!!!
So I called them again and was told by Supervisor Paula that that is normal."
