Avoid Sur La Table

"If you value your time and money then I would avoid this location (Glendale, CA) all together. The manager at this location is probably the rudest person I have ever had to deal with at any store. For reference she is an older lady with glasses, and she seriously has a stick up her you know what.

I bought an espresso machine from this location in December of last year and tried to return it 2 days later. They told me that the machine (Breville Bambino) would do everything that I expected it to do, including temperature control. After using it one time I realized it did not have any temperature control like its bigger brother the Breville Barista Pro. The employees mislead me to believe that this machine would do everything I expected it to do, so naturally I wanted to return the item. I packaged the machine up perfectly, put it in my car and drove to this location. I parked in the parking structure, and carried this thing with me for 10 minutes as I walked from the parking structure to the store. When I got there I told the cashier I'd like to return the item. She reluctantly looked at the receipt and then asked the manager if it was ok to accept the return. That old bag stonewalled me and the return and basically looked at her and said "no". I explained that it wasn't the product I was expecting whatsoever and she decides to come up to me and antagonize me regarding the return. Her words: "So you just didn't like it?". My response: "It wasn't what I expected at all, and it doesn't have temperature control, as claimed by one of your sales associates." Her final words: "Sorry can't accept the return." Then she waddled away.

I was **** off, and decided to reach out to Sur La Table support. I called the next day and within 10 minutes the support team was able to provide me with a shipping label to return the item. They told me that once they received the item they would refund my original form of payment. This story doesn't end here though, now I was out an espresso machine AND my money. Even after receiving the item within 4 days it took them over 2 months to coordinate a refund with me. I called every single week from the day I returned the item to just last week confirming that my refund was indeed coming. They repeatedly told me that they received the coffee machine in their warehouse and that someone would reach out to me by phone or email to process the refund.

I waited months for this call to happen, and just a couple of weeks ago it did! They asked me for my card number and I provided it to them, and they told me it would be available in 3-5 business days, but after 8 days... it still wasn't there. Finally I just ended up calling my bank and disputing the charge, they gave me my money in 1 day and asked for a copy of the email stating they had refunded me to be faxed to them. End of story.

Basically avoid this location at all costs, don't give these people your money. Everything here is pretty overpriced anyways. The way the employees conduct themselves is almost like they are above you, all because they work at some snooty kitchen supply store. Get over yourselves.

Note to the manager: When it comes to not accepting my return, it's not like this is some small-time mom and pop shop. It's not like I was taking money out of YOUR pocket returning an item I was unsatisfied with. Sur la table is a multi-million dollar corporation that grosses over $300 million dollars annually in revenue and you probably get paid a little over minimum wage. Why the hell would you do this to a customer? I was able to return it after all, but thanks to you, you made it very difficult for that to happen. Get over yourself!

Cooking class

"I took a cooking class and the instructor refused to let me have what I made. She said it is for their staff to eat. I bought it and I had to let the staff eat it. I absolutely hate being screwed over. "

Broken Plates

"Ordered a set of kitchen dinnerware and received 4 plates that were broken. We immediately called customer service and asked how to go about obtaining replacements. We were told we’d be receiving an email detailing the process. More than a couple of days goes by but finally an email was received asking for photos of the broken plates. The photo documentation was sent. We were told we would hear from someone within 48 hours. That never happened. 2 weeks later, 2 more emails and 2 more calls to customer service and we’re still waiting. No one knows anything. Absolutely terrible communication. I’ll be disputing the charge on my credit card. Never again. "

Sur La Table is the Absolute Worst Retailer in the United States and the employees are morons!

"I ordered two packages of their croissants over two weeks ago. They say on their website will arrive in 7 business days. It is currently about 14 business days and the UPS site where they informed me they shipped does not show any movement. I called and requested that they cancel the order and credit my card. The people in their bad customer service department either play dumb or possibly are morons. I contacted my credit card company and had the charge disputed. If the croissants arrive they will be dough that has risen out of the packaging. I will have further fights with these idiots and will prevail. It is just a waste of too much time to attempt to deal with a company that lacks any intelligent life."

Horrible customer service

"They give you a coupon for $15 off your first order with a lot of not very explicit restrictions. I tried to cancel my order 3 minutes after I placed it and they say that they cannot cancel an order after it has been placed. I never heard of such a policy from a retailer."

Zero customer care

"Sur La Table, high end product, Low end customer service
In January we purchased a $300 Breville coffee maker recommended by the store in Fashion Place mall in Utah. After 4 the timer button ceased to work. We called Breville and they sent us a replacement. This one keeps saying fill tank even though it has 8 cups of water. Again we called Breville and they said to dump the water and wipe off the sensor. After 3 times of having to do this we called back and they said there is nothing they can do since we did not buy it from them, we would have to go back to the retailer. Yesterday we drove back to the retailer and spoke with Anna, the associate. Her answer was that since the company was sold last year their is nothing they can do. All Sur La Table does is give a showroom to companies like Breville so they can sell their products. I had been a long time customer of Sur La Table and have spent thousands of dollars. So much for the so called premium brands and the premium stores to get them from. At least Amazon would have taken it back for an exchange.

Don't waste your time and money.

"Don't waste your time or money. Sur La Table is a lousy company. I attended 3 cooking classes they provided. Never again. Two of the "chefs" were nice people. One was extremely obnoxious. He got visibly mad and emotionally upset because several students including myself were not holding the knife EXACTLY like he demonstrated. What a narcissist. It is a job for bottom feeders. The place is sloppy, filthy and unsanitary. They mix food together that all the students hands have been in and then they serve it to everyone. The cooking classes are BYOB and they allow drunkenness. The evening classes are often fully booked and the space is too small, cramped and congested which contributes to the sloppy filthiness. The meals are not consistently good. Some recipes are awful. The classes are rushed. The "chefs" typically arrive at the very last minute for scheduled class start time and unprepared or 10 to 15 minuets after the class start time. They yell at you to wait outside until they are "ready". The kitchen assistant team always seems irritated and behave like they would rather be anywhere else. The cooking classes are an overpriced frivolous novelty that most people attend only once or twice because the experience is not worth the time or money. The the students who make a habit of coming back are without exception those who are desperate for social interaction they can't seem to find anywhere else. I purchased a $300 gift certificate on line from Sur La Table for my wife. I selected the option on their website to email the certificate to her email address. Sur La Table's system immediately charged my credit card but has not emailed the certificate to my wife. I researched their question and answer page on their website hoping to find out why. There are several questions posted on their site from customers who were also concerned about why gift certificates they purchased to be emailed were not emailed timely. Sur La Table ignores or refuses to respond to the questions. Some questions pertaining to this have been posted for over a year and Sur La Table has not responded to a single one. Most of the products they sell are highly profitable overpriced cheaply made gimmicks designed and marketed to attract naïve customers. Some of the products they sell are good and can be bought elsewhere. Don't waste your time or money supporting such a lousy organization."

Terrible Experience

"Placed an order for a Staub pan 11/28 up to 14 day shipping delay. After about 20 days I call and am told they're delayed more but my order is reserved, world is crazy it's understandable whatever, but now this gift is late for Christmas, called again after 10 more days and am told that there is another delay but my order is reserved still. Three days after that (more than a month after my initial purchase) they just cancelled the order entirely. So now I'm out a Christmas present that I had promised (and ordered an entire month early to be sure it would get there on time) and I get nothing out of it. The customer service person promised me a $35 gift card but guess what never showed up in my email? It's been a week since then and nothing. They won't let you talk to a manager. Terrible company, they deserve to be bankrupt. Do not bother spending money on their site, there's a good chance you'll never get your product. "

Delivery lost- Not compensated in any way

"I ordered a Scanpan set from Sur La Table website on Dec 18th and paid for 2-day Express delivery, so that it would arrive before Christmas. It is Dec 31st, and my sister has not received this delivery.

The FedEx site said it was delivered on the 21st. My sister was home all day, and no one rang the door bell, nor did I receive a call to signal the arrival of this package or issues with the package.

I emailed into the general customer email and did n46017ot receive a response within 48 hours, so I called the general customer service line, waited maybe half an hour, and a rep said she'll file a search for this and said most likely, they'll offer a refund or a replacement.

Yesterday (Dec 30th), I received a one line email saying: "On our records, it says that the item was delivered on 12/22/2020." I reply with a long angry frustrated email, and the response was simply, "... I need to inform you that Management Team already reviewed your case, and it was even express shipped. In this case you will need to file a dispute with FedEx...."

I called to complain, and the same type of response. No explanation of how they verified the delivery or proof of delivery.

That's the only customer service for spending $150 on a Christmas gift that never even arrived. Of course, I knew that it was express delivered- I paid over $30 for it to be shipped in two days, not for it to disappear into the FedEx system....Can someone explain to me why I get to deal with the consequences of this delivery error- I didn't choose to waive my signature (for whatever reason, the Sur La Table site doesn't provide an option for needing a signature), nor did I choose FedEx to be the irresponsible carrier for the company's deliveries.

Don't order from the website. Honestly, I don't even want to spend money at the physical store anymore.

Do not buy from Sur La Table

"I ordered Lion’s head French onion soup bowls. When I received them, they were not soup bowls, but tiny sauce bowls. So, I sent them back for a refund. They charged me half of what I paid for the bowls as a restocking fee. I called customer service and they were no help at all. I will never order from this company again. I am disputing this payment with my credit card. "

Dishonest, rude and disorganized

"The flood of negative reviews on the web and complete lack of corporate response make one wonder if the company's recent bankruptcy acquisition is just a speculative ploy to liquidate it and its assets completely. In any case, I will not spend another penny with them.

Sur La Table’s customer service promised me in writing to price match an item sold by the manufacturer if I went ahead and placed the order with SLT. I trusted them and made the purchase on November 1 – big mistake. First problem, the order didn't arrive until 47 days later, although it was shown “in stock.” Second, even after six weeks of waiting they refused to cancel the order or provide an ETA, and basically told me, “Keep waiting!” Third, when I finally got the item and called customer service on December 18, 2020 to inquire about the promised price match, I was rudely told that they wouldn't price match the manufacturer. The customer service representative then literally told me off. In the past, I had spent hundreds of dollars at SLT. Not any more.

I wonder how their corporate managers still have their jobs...

Dishonest Company

"I called to place an order with customer service. I was told that the sale price on the object had just expired that morning and he could not give me that price. I said that the website says they will price match with any other competitor for the same exact item. I told them the piece was listed with three other companies at a price $130 lower. He said prove it to me. So I gave him the name of the other companies and he said that he would look up on their sites for the lower price. He said the object was listed for more than Sur La Table was selling it for. I said no way possible I was looking at the competitors web site at the same time. He said send me a screen shot. So I did of the lower priced same exact item from Sonoma and Williams and he still would not honor the price match. I cancelled my order and will never waste another minute with Sur la Table they lack honesty and integrity as well as practice unethical marketing methods. "

Awful Shipping and Delivery

"I placed a HUGE order online on Dec 1, 2020. Website states 3-7 day delivery. It is now Dec 16, 2020 and the order has still not shipped. Emailed with no response. Called customer service and told the to cancel the order. I'll take my business elsewhere. Customer service said they could not cancel and that I would have to return they items when they arrived. I am not happy and will NEVER shop at Sur La Table again. "

"After emailing & calling them (literally 58 minutes to get a live person on the phone on their customer service line, only to have them on a 3 min call with me to tell me that can not cancel my order and that I can return it at a store - but my local store has been closed. OMG, I am NEVER SHOPPING with this store again and their website customer service is horrific and not empowered to actually help you in any way. Save your $$ and stay away...there is a reason this retailer is bankrupt and it is not due to Covid19 - it's horrific customer service..."

Never received item

"Ordered a Le Creuset braising skillet. Not cheap. Ordered it on May 7. It’s June 22 and I am still waiting. I did receive an email on June 7 saying it had shipped. No tracking number. Two weeks later I checked in it by Order #: still hasn’t shipped.

Something is seriously wrong with this company. Avoid.
