"I purchased the Rigol DS1054Z Digital Scope from Tequipment.net and I love it! It's small and light, with a tiny footprint (compared to my old analog scopes). BUt, though small, it has a decent sized display screen that is crisp, clean and colorful (i.e. text is easily readable and lines are clean and crisp).

As with all Digital Scopes the "Human Interface" takes a little getting used to, but once you shift paradigms from analog to digital, it's actually pretty easy to use. The Digital scope interface can't help being complex and cluttered, because Digital scopes can do so much more than even the most complex analog scope. AND, once you get the hang of the Digital controls, the scope behaves a lot like an analog scope for sweep rates above, say, 50ms/cm (below that, there is a substantial delay between screen updates--thus, instead of a visible trace crawling across the screen, there is a time delay before ANYTHING shows up, then the whole trace becomes visible).

I've owned an analog storage scope, which was a godsend for the kind of things I tend to do. With digital, capturing and freezing a trace is far easier and the visible result never contains the grainy, "cruddy" artifacts typical of an analog freeze, plus, there's no worries about the capture fading. Also, the many cursors -- horizontal and vertical -- make it easy to measure time intervals and voltage levels/differences, plus the scope automagically detects the frequency of a regular waveform and the peak-to-peak voltage.

Plus it shows absolute voltages and deltas between cursors, the frequency and the inverse-frequency (i.e. the period). plus it can measure the duty cycle, the rise time and fall time numerous other things I've yet to explore.

Triggering works great.

The feel of the controls is nice, not too stiff, but stiff enough to make it easy to click between detentes. It has a fan, but it's fairly quiet.

The alligator clips on the probes are VERY stiff. You have to mash then very hard to open the jaws (probably because of the extra tough plastic used for the insulating casing).

But the spring loaded probe hook works well. And the probe wires are thin and flexible--I like that. The scope does not automatically detect when the probe is changed from 10x to 1x (or vice-versa). But, there is a, per-probe, setting for 10x or 1x (and actually all the way from 0.01x to 1000x with many steps in between--for instance, there's a 2x, a 5x, a 20x, a 0.5x, etc). There are many other features on this scope that I have yet to explore, but I can't talk about them because I haven't used them."
