I received the books

"The first order arrived in about 2 weeks. The second order in about 6 weeks.
Shipping is free, so I'll just keep ordering a book at the time and when I don't get the book, I'll stop ordering. It's very annoying that I didn't even get a tracking number, so when my order was late, their customer department told me to inquire at the local postal office... just like that.
The books got here in good condition. They were small enough to fit in my mail box each time, so I didn't have to go to the postal office to get them, and I liked that.
Anyway, I'm 2 for 2 books delivered so overall I'm happy.

What has happened to BD lately?

"Seeing the reviews below from others from NZ, I can see I'm not alone in wondering where the heck my books are. I ordered three books for Christmas presents; two weeks before the cut off date. Only one arrived in time for Christmas, and I couldn't gift it anyway because it was the second volume that showed up. The other two are still MIA. Never had any issues with orders placed earlier this year, they all arrived in 8-12 days. Feeling really **** off."

Never received my book-do not use this seller

"I live in New Zealand and like others that have posted did not receive my book. I spoke to our local Post Office delivery service and they stated that they have had multiple people come as they also did not receive their books. After speaking to the Post Office I think these people are scammers and making a lot of money from innocent individuals. If you were legit then in this day & age you would do a track & trace... safe guards both parties."

Cannot be trusted

"Three books still haven't arrived in New Zealand, 6 weeks after ordering when the Book Depository said it would be 5 - 10 days. Clearly these books have gone missing. But instead of helpfully offering a refund, "Tatum" is telling me that I must follow up with a mysterious postal office that I know nothing about, and they cannot give me the information about. It looks as though I am not going to get a refund, or the books. Amazon on the other hand delivered my order within a week. Fishpond is also excellent, and has a clear policy on non delivered goods. Will never, ever buy from Book Depository again."

Avoid

"Seems that I have had a very similar experience to many others on here:
Order a book, order confirmed, credit card debited,order cancelled and my card recredited. In my case, no email was received to confirm the cancellation and I only found out by checking my bank account a few days later. Given that it is Xmas it left me having to find an alternative supplier.
To add this, when I complained, rather than apologise, they tried to tell me that my payment was refused due to 'security reasons' and that they were unable to disclose what those 'security checks' are. Given that the payment to them is made by a third party (Visa) and that my account was debited, they are obviously lying.
Totally disgusted with their conduct. Even if they are the best price, you are unlikely to get your books so don't waste your time.

Shipping is NOT free!

"Book Depository says on their website that 'Shipping is free worldwide'. Well, it isn't true - in fact it's misleading and false advertisement.
They sent my book by courier (which was never mentioned when I placed my order) and I was charged a processing fee by the courier company. Their customer service was dismissive and basically said that the additional fees are my responsibility.
So buyer BEWARE! Shipping is not free as you are led to believe.

"How buying a book turns into nightmare!
I bought a book on book depository, after receiving the shipping confirmation (without any tracking number) i have been waiting for 15 days the book without receiving it. The customer agent told me that if i don´t go to my local post office, I can´t do anything for me. Not a simple thing to do, as you DON´T receive any tracking number from them, so there is no way for the postal service to know where the package is... so their service is awful, i would say that it is a scam. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM.

GREAT DISTASTE FOR THIS COMPANY

"October 13: placed an order

October 16: tracker on the website says that the book was dispatched and expected to arrive within 4-10 business days

October 30: no book arrived, so I emailed Support; KHAYA SIHLALI responded, asking me to confirm my address and telling me to check the local sorting office

November 4: I responded to the email, telling her that my address is correct and our local post office doesn't have the package; KHAYA SIHLALI responded on the same day, telling me that she issued a replacement order (expected to arrive within 7-10 business days)

November 17: no replacement order arrived, so I emailed Support again; EUNICE DAVIDS replied, telling me to wait until November 22

November 23: I emailed Support again, telling them that neither the original order nor the replacement order has arrived; EUNICE DAVIDS asked if I had an alternate address

November 25: I asked for a full refund instead

November 26: CHANTOWENA J responded, telling me that a full refund will be reflected on my account in 1-3 days

November 28: I received a separate email from Book Depository, telling me that my refund will be posted within 2-3 days

December 1: no refund reflected on my account, so I emailed Support yet again; SALAMA LAATTOE replies, saying that the refund will reflected on my account shortly

December 2: I emailed back, telling Support that the refund hasn't been posted; SALAMA LAATTOE responded, telling me that my concern has been passed on to the "appropriate team"

I have emailed them three more times after that. No response whatsoever. No book, no refund. I wasted a few bucks and a good two months of my time.

Order Cancelled without Notice

"On 26 November I placed an order for two books listed as available for delivery from the UK within 2 days. My credit card was immediately charged and I received an order confirmation.

I never had any more communication from Book Depository, but when I checked my order status online, my order was displayed as cancelled. I emailed Book Depository --- there is no other way to contact customer service --- and didn't receive any assistance.

Finally on 1 December I received a refund on my credit card. Still no information at all from Book Depository. In the meantime one week has passed and timely delivery before the holidays is now in doubt.

Undelivered item

"I ordered book from them and never arrived, they confirmed they delivered and dispatched using royal mail courier service but when i check from my local post office, there aren't any record found and I requested for a refund or second deliver no action from them at all. Bad experience! No next time!!"

Stay Away! Never received order

"They charged me for books I never received. Tried contacting customer service to get refund but I’ve been getting the run around. I would not recommend this bookseller at all. They are the worst bookseller I’ve ever purchased from. Customer service is a joke. Will not buy again from these guys."

One Sided Order Cancellation & Poor Service from their Customer Service

"I have always had a good impression about shopping in Bookdepository due to their cheap price of tarot/oracle cards and item arrived well if compared to another well known merchant seller. But it was until one of my order was cancelled due to an issue of my payment details. It wasn't much of an issue as they said the order has been cancelled and I haven't been charged due to it. I can simply reorder the same item and move on happily with it, but then it became apparents to me that the cancelled order has actually been charged and as a customer it's only understandable how I was on the fence about paying for something that I didn't get at all. Like seriously how could there was an issue with my payment details when there was a payment charged/posted into my statement account after the cancellation order.

Consulted the matter with my provider about the issue and they told me that since the transaction has been charged, it was only the merchant seller that able to cancel and refund the payment back to me. With that knowledges, I contacted their customer service, told them about my issue with the payment. Provided them my credit statement when I was still being charged for a failed transaction. Hoping them to help resolving this issue by sending a refund to me or at the very least give further assistance of this issue til it's resolving. It was until then that one of their Resolution specialist took charge of the email conversation (earlier was still okay between me and their customer service), and he stated that they are not responsible for the hold placed on the funds following failed billing attempts, and only my card provider can lift it. He directly cutted off the conversation at the end of the email by saying that he's unable to be further assistance.

As their regular customer for the past 7 months, I was blown by the situation that I have to pay for something that I didn't get yet their response at the end gives me an impression of "Wtf, it has been cancelled from our system so it's all none of our business but yours to take care of now. So go away and don't disturb us". I was hoping that the cancelled transaction that has been charged could be lifted through my provider only but then I was deeply dissapointed with Bookdepository's overall responses and wasn't sure if I want to shopping things from their website anymore. Defo learnt my lessons well.

Total waste of time. Don't bother.

"So I ordered a book a week ago. Throughout the week, I would periodically check on the status of the order and the system would tell me that the status of the order was pending. Okay, fine. A week passes and out of the blue, I am notified that Book Depository has canceled my order because they didn't have the item in stock. Now, normally this wouldn't be that big of a deal if I could order the book from another place for a similar price, but the price of the book on Amazon is now 400% more expensive than the original price I paid for my order. The book costed me $50, retails for $60, and now costs $200 on Amazon! WHY WOULD A COMPANY PUT AN ITEM ON SALE FOR ON THEIR WEBSITE IF THEY DIDN'T HAVE IT IN STOCK IN THE FIRST PLACE?! This wasn't even a preorder, which would've been more understandable ... this was a book that I had PURCHASED on THEIR website ... or so I thought. Super inconvenient. I honestly expected more from a company owned by Amazon, but this was my first and for sure will be my last time I order from Book Depository."
