"Screw this comapany. I ordered a delta 60mm fan from them. It took them 2 weeks just to ship it and he didnt respond to my emails and when they finaly did they said they they "had been busy". I finaly got my fan and it was the high power delta fan that i had ordered but some cheapo weak y.s. tech fan > : ("

"I placed an order online with UmaxPC.com on the morning of 14 March 2003.

I received an automated response confirming my order had been placed on the morning of 14 March 2003.

On the 18th and 19th of March I sent several emails that went unanswered to UmaxPC.com.

On the 19th of March, I did a "whois" inquiry and obtained an email address for Mr. Crossley.

On the Morning of the 20th of March, Mr. Crossley responded to the email that was sent to ****@****.

On the Morning of the 20th of March, Mr. Crossley stated in his email to me that my order had been shipped.

On the evening of the 20th of March, I emailed Mr. Crossley and UmaxPC.com asking for a tracking number.

On the evening of the 21st of March, UPS received my shipping information and my package.

On the evening of the 21st of March, UPS emailed me my tracking information.

The scheduled delivery date is the 28th of March.

I placed the order on the 14th of March.

2 weeks from order to delivery (hopefully)

Bottom line:

I placed 6 orders from 6 different company's on the 14th and 15th of March. As of the 21st of March, all 5 of the other online retailers' packages have arrived. UmaxPC.com just barely shipped out the package - one week after it
was ordered. Mr. Crossley's business is slow to ship. It took a "whois" inquiry on the UmaxPC.com domain to acquire an email address to communicate with Mr. Crossley directly to get any status on my order. The status obtained appears to have been a bogus status.

I am very inclined to believe that Mr. Crossley lied on the morning of the 20th of March when he stated in an email to me that my package had been shipped when UPS didn't report receiving that package until the evening of the 21st of March.

I just hope when my order arrives that there's nothing wrong. I dread having to sort through anything else with this company.

I expect Mr. Crossley to respond defensively to this critique of his company, as he has with other critiques. I've got just one more thing to say to Mr. Crossley regarding his obvious flair for diplomacy -

"I was kind of disappointed at the overall experience with UMAXPC.

I read some of the comments posted on Reseller Ratings, and the company seems ok, but it didn’t have enough reviews to make an overall reliable company. But I thought since I was dealing with a small company, I would get a better interaction with the business, but I was wrong.

Well I ordered some windows molding, for my case thinking I would get a good deal, and the product on time. I must have been spoiled by newegg or pcmods, by getting a quick email of my products arrival date. After a few days without a status of my package being shipped, I emailed UMAX. I didn’t get a response from "Chris" the company’s owner or from anyone. I didn’t really care that much if my product was delayed a little, but I would have like to been notified. It took about two weeks for the molding to arrive, and when I did the quality was horrible. I felt if I rubbed my hands on it I would rub it down to a nub. This company seems kind of like Bestbuy or as I might call it Worstbuy, you might get a smooth order, or you might get jammed in the face with some problems, you’re taking a chance.

"Order process went smooth. My order shipped within two days. UPS ground sucks! I ordered on Dec 17 and scheduled delivery is not until the 30th. Two weeks to deliver a 1 lb package? Next time maybe Umax could use my six bucks to buy stamps and ship the order in an envelope. "

"I too deal with Chris at UMAXPC on a regular basis. I must say this company is by far the best I have ever dealt with online. My emails are always returned within 24 hours and Chris is always looking for another way to make a customer happy. "Not too bad, shipping took a little longer than expected but i live far away from his shipping headquarters. when i opened the box i realized that the fan grill i had ordered was the wrong size! i was really worried i had ordered the wrong thing, but i emailed UMAX and they told me how to meausre the grill and it turns out they mailed me the wrong thing. immediatly he said he'd mail me the correct item at no extra cost and i dont have to mail the incorrect item back or anything. That is perfect problem resolution."

"I have been ordering computer cables, cooling devices and accessories from Chris @ UMAX PC for quite some time now and have always come away completely satisfied. Last night while trying to order some cables, I ran into some problems with availability and was not able to checkout. I emailed him about the problem and he called me on the phone to sort things out. I have to admit that the service he provides is bar none "the best" I have ever seen online. "Very disappointing experience. Placed my order on a Wednesday before 1:00 CST, and quickly received an automated email confirmation of my order. That was as good as it got.

UmaxPC web site claims that "your order will ship within 2 business days from the time of order", so expected to receive a follow-up email, indicating that shipment was made, by Friday afternoon. It never came. Looked for contact numbers for someone at UmaxPC, but not a single telephone number is listed on their site, which should be a red flag for anyone who prefers verbal communication in making inquiries or resolving problems with their e-tailer. Sent an email to UmaxPC the following Monday afternoon requesting a status update on my order and asking why I hadn't received any shipping information. Also indicated that I would cancel my order if I didn't receive a reply from them within the next business day.

Received an email response from Chris Crossley, the "President" of UmaxPC, on the following day (Tuesday). Now, Chris Crossley is the only name you will see connected with UmaxPC, and it quickly became evident to me that he is running is an "out of the basement" operation. This would be OK with me, I've bought from one- or two-man companies before, but Chris seems to make an effort to have you think otherwise, and he refers to his company as "us" and "we" when it should really be "me" and "I". Little surprise that there is no "about the company" section of his site.

In any event, Chris' email indicated that my order had finally shipped (presumably that day), and that I should be receiving the items by the following Friday. He explained that orders with small items, like mine, are shipped via US Postal. Since there are no tracking numbers for this shipping method, he continued, it explained why I hadn't received an email with shipping information. He didn't explain, however, why customers who have small item orders without tracking numbers do not, at the very least, receive an email notification from UmaxPC when their order gets shipped.

But most importantly, Chris responded to my concern about the shipping holdup of my order by responding, "it is possible shipping was slightly delayed on your order as this occasionally happens when bringing in inventory from our warehouse." Now I don't think Chris owns a warehouse like most people think of when they envision an industrial warehouse full of computer goods. Chris could be referring to a buddy's basement in another town, maybe, or a warehouse he "uses" and not "owns", perhaps. Regardless, Chris did not offer any sort of recompense to remedy the delay in shipment, stating only that he was "sorry for any concerns".

I finally received my order, and it was in a small brown envelope that had a series of lick-on postage stamps running across the top (note to Chris: if you want to look like you have a real shipping department, at least invest in a postage meter). I was charged $6.50 in shipping costs that included a shipping delay and no tracking number, and which only cost Chris $1.04 in postage and at most $2.00 in handling fees (as stated on his web site in "Shipping & Returns" page).

I therefore believe that Chris owes me $3.46 ($6.50-$1.04-$2.00), even without considering customer satisfaction issues involving the delay in my shipment. Do I think he'll offer to reimburse that amount to me? I don't think so. Do I plan to do anymore business with UmaxPC? Definitely not.

"I bought some cables from them way back in December. There were some problems with the credit card, I forgetwhat exactly but Chris and I worked it out. The rounded cables came out great both looks wise and quality wise. They were professionally made and have no problems. I would not hesitate to buy from them again. "Very low stock. Overpriced by about 500% over other sites I've seen. Overcharged me on shipping to the tune of 1200%. Main email contact (Chris) both rude and unhelpful. Overall satisfaction very low. Would not buy from again if they were the only ones to stock an item I wanted."
