"On the FAQ section everything sounds great. You pick a tutor, they contact you, you discuss rates and pay them directly. No middle man. The person that would later call me described it as a Craig's List for tutors.
However its my sneaking suspicion that this a whole bunch of crap. Shortly after entering my contacted by a woman from Varsity Tutors who asked if I was interested in tutoring the subject I had filled out in the form. I didn't remember contacting a Varsity Tutors so I said no because my test date was too soo. I quickly realized the two were probably linked so I called back.
Apparently if the tutor you selected is no longer accepting students the forward you to Varsity Student which is in contrast to their FAQ which says they remove the profile of people who don't respond.
Oddly, about 3 months ago when GRE classes were being canceled left and right because they couldn't get 7 students to hold a class I remember getting the same call when attempting to contact this same tutor.
They then attempted to set me up with an online tutor which I explicitly did not want. They then told me that they had three compatible tutors in the area. I asked if they profiles were available on University but they said no because these tutors were quality assured.
So with no knowledge of the tutor or any communication with them I was asked to setup and account to take an online practice test as part of their "cheapest" package at over $1200 which is about what GRE prep course from Kaplan or Princeton review cost. No thanks. "
