"I bought an Enco model 137-3175 metal cutting bandsaw. I am a homeowner and do not run a business so I only used it minimally. I was very pleased with it. It is a great tool for the price. The hydraulic cylinder leaked down after about a couple of months. MSC merged with Enco about then so I called them and they sent a new cylinder at no charge. Customer service at that point was great. At about 1 year & 3 months it began making a loud knocking noise that was hard to locate but I soon found that the worm gear in the gear box was chipped and boogered up. Now, I'm not an engineer but I suspected that the gear had not been hardened. These types of gears are usually so hard that a high speed drill bit will not even scratch them. I took a HSS bit to an insignificant spot on the worm gear and it drilled it easily. It only has a 1 year warranty so I figured I was SOoL but I called MSC anyhow. To my surprise the guy wanted to help me. After telling him if I was going to have to spend money on the thing, I wanted a complete gear box. He said the price for a gear box was $280 plus S/H & tax. When I told him that was a third of the price of a new one, he checked with his supervisor and told my story. He came back and told me that they would let me have it for half price. He got me free shipping but had to charge me for the tax on it. I agreed and in a week I had the new one. I tested it with the HSS drill and it would not drill it. Had I have used this unit every day it would not have lasted 2 months but I only use one occasionally so I am stuck. While I am disappointed in the whole deal and I am out $149.45, I do have a very good band saw now. "
