"Having purchased the product from a local Netto store in December 2009 (at a discounted price of £59.99), I have found that the product conforms to the modern standards of the day. In respect to being built (down)to a standard, and a budget.
However, in spite of that compromise does serve the purpose for which it is intended, perfectly well. There is no issue with the appliances capability etc.
Only with built-in obsolescence.
I submitted the registration card by post to the registered warranty department address. However, no acknowledgement of receipt was ever given by Vax, in response to E-Mail query as to the status of my registration of the product purchased in good faith.
Furthermore, upon enquiry to Vax online, one finds that one cannot, as publicly stated (in the users manual) obtain the spare parts, or accessories for this 30th Anniversary celebration edition.
One is outrageously fobbed-off, and treated as an imbecile by Vax; who stated that because the model was new on the market, parts were not yet available for this model. I was told I needed to wait (an un-unspecified period of time), before reapplying...
However, clearly this would not be satisfactory, or acceptable in the case of a new car sold; where one would certainly expect replacement parts, and accessories to be available with the product launched to market...
Trying again in early 2012 encountered exactly the same situation. I again E-Mail contacted Vax who carried on in the same vein as before.
One found that the model of Vacuum cleaner in question was not even listed among the myriad of models of cleaners featured on the official vax sales website.
It was alleged that I needed to contact a national rate telephone order line. Yet it was also alleged that such parts were unavailable, as before...
Subsequently, after much E-Mail contact, the tune changes, and the allegation is that such parts are in fact available.
Vax even supplied a list of parts, and applicable part numbers to quote when ordering. But this is only for three items.
However, wilfully refused to deal with my E-Mail request to purchase consumable parts (Floor Head Cleaner, Suction Hose, HEPA Filter kit, Post Motor (Metal) Filter Shroud, Dirt Box, and Telescopic Extension Tube.
The order was refused, and I was advised to vist the Vax website pages. Pointlessly...
This time however, one finds that this 30th Anniversary edition is listed. But three items only are available for the model in question. (HEPA Filter Kit, Telescopic Extension Tube, and Hose.)
Thus I would advise that this 'rogue trader' manufacturer, and product should be avoided at all costs; choosing a product from a more reputable, principled and scrupulous manufacturer.
Which will not have the built-in obsolescence which is such an unacceptably adverse feature of the Vax C-91-P2-P-AN 30th Anniversary edition vacuum cleaner.
The manner of their behaviour was like that seen in TV programmes "Rogue Traders", and "Cowboy Traders".
And even referring the facts of the matter to BBC 'Watchdog', and other consumer affairs magazine programmes has brought no change for the better...
This begs the obvious question, as to how, and why such a land-mark, flag-ship model can be deficient in respect to spares availability - which compromises it's long-term viability. If one visits the vax website, it will be found that few of the parts illustrated as available in the users manual can be obtained. Either directly from Vax, or eleswhere...
Surely Vax arn't counting on people so cheated, being gullible enough to be twice bitten? Are they?
Caveat Emptor is emphatically the Watchword..."
"I ordered a Vax Air Pet from their clearing website as a new unit, but was sent out a reconditioned unit. I specifically ordered a non-reconditioned machine for the 5yr warranty, but I received one with just 12 months warranty. Contacting Vax I was told that I had ordered a reconditioned unit despite my order confirmation stating a non-reconditioned item code. Vax were no help and insisted it was my fault for not reading the website properly despite my insisting I knew there were reconditioned units on the website and specifically chose one that wasn't. All they would offer is a full refund once I sent the machine back to them. I will never deal with Vax again!"
