"I purchased Western Digital 8 TB My Cloud Home external drive about three years ago. It worked FAIRLY DECENT until about 3 months ago. It has lost connection and can no longer connect. It simply states it's offline. I've tried every solution possible and still no luck. I purchased this product because I thought it would be reliable and I could trust that whatever I needed to store would always be available to me. What is the point of having an external hard drive with a cloud feature if you cannot access the cloud unless the device is logged in? And the customer service is absolutely nonexistent. They want me to collect and send them logs of the device but in order to do that you have to log in. I disregarded many signs while having the device and it was still functioning. It took forever to simply log in, it took forever to download what I needed from the device, difficulty logging in and having to restart computer multiple times to get the device to finally log in, and on and on and on. I will absolutely never purchase a product from your company again. I lost so many personal and professional things and there is absolutely nothing that can be done because there is not a single human being that works for Western Digital that is capable of figuring out why their devices are worth nothing more than a 2.5-pound paper weight. There are a few choice words I have for your company, but I will display more professionalism than what I have received. DO NOT PURCHASE ANY PRODUCTS FROM THIS COMPANY."
"On 10 Apr 2022, I sent the following letter to Mr. Robert Soderbery, Executive VP & General Manager who has not responded to date (13 May 2022):
"Western Digital has a very serious lack of quality control at HGST and its drive recertification program. Let me detail my experiences to give you an idea of the ordeals with which I have dealt.
I purchased a Western Digital Ultrastar 8TB DC HC320 on 12 Dec 2020. It went bad in Nov 2021 and RMA’d as 39111086, Incident 211117-001784. It’s replacement which I received on 14 Dec 2021 then went bad in a couple of weeks. See Incident 220103-001021, RMA 39117907, 10 Jan 2022.
The next replacement that I received was defective out of the box and returned. Same for it’s replacement, DoA.
A customer should not have to spend as much time as I have to get a good drive. The HGST line of drives right now is crap. Your people there must be pulling out their hair dealing with this mess.
How about your sending me a new Western Digital Black replacement? I don’t trust HGST drives and don’t want another one.""
"This drive failed during the warrantee period and I returned it under a RMA (I had to pay postage). WD confirmed that they received the returned drive on 30 November 2021. It now very nearly two months later and nothing has happened. The RMA status simple says "Received / Processing". I've contacted WD twice. The first time they said it was "global supply problems" and asked me to wait a little longer. The second time they have simply ignored me so far."
"I ordered 3 x Sandisk memory cards form this store on 5/21. WD Store says it was shipped on 5/21 via UPS. Perhaps it was only a label created. That status stayed for over a week.
I called in many times (John, Eliza) and ask to cancel this order because it would arrive too late to support my business. They said we can't to this, but they will elevate this to their concerned team (Who ever this is?). Nothing happened. I looked up my UPS account and found an UPS report stating a request from the seller that the item couldn't be found. No refund !

"If I can leave a 0 star I would. I owned a number of different brands of storage hardware and western digital has got to be the worst. Very unreliable and you ended up probably worse off with unretrievable important data. The first one of an older model - 50GB which requires you to plug it into the power point to start went dead in about a year, all my computers were not able to read from the hardisk thereafter and I could not retrieve some important data on it. There were no mishandling or accidents, it just went dead like that. The second one which is a 500GB small portable unit bought some 10 years later was operating alright at the start but months later when I was moving files, it kept either disconnecting occasionally or connection error messages popped out, sometimes I have to start over again and wasting lot of unnecessary time. It became more frequent and I decided to shelf it. Months later today, it went dead as well. This is such a horror stories especially if you trust it with important data. So if you want a reliable storage hardware, do not choose WD. Some of my other brands bought earlier even outlasted both my WD hardisks."

Telephone support not knowledgeable , online chat support only referred me to paid site (which didn't have good reviews), and gave NO support. My WD My Book hard drive is not working correctly, I was in the middle of downloading some files and shut my computer down to run errands and when I came back to finish the files my My Book was no longer showing up in my file explorer, it does show up under the section where it says eject item, it shows up in the drives manager but not the other manager. The hard drive is running, and light shows from the inside.( I ran the WD digital Data Life guard Diagnostics Tool and it shows the my book but says not available)As I said it was working perfectly and my errands took less than 30 minutes when it stopped showing in the file explorer anymore. The more I look into wd hard drives the more I find that thier products have a lot of issues that I did not know about when I looked into the research originally. I tried everything that was suggested. I plugged the hardrive directly into the wall, I shut down the computer a couple of times, I went in and unistalled the my book drive under all the areas you could do that and reinstalled nothing worked!!! this is ridulous how can their products have so many issues this one does not make sense. it was working and than it wasnt and I can not get to my files that I was back up which is the whole point of these products how is wd sitll in business seriously!?
Issue 2
I plugged in my passport 2tb external hard drive that was working perfectly and has thousands of vids and other files on it into my WD live Media player to watch something off it and it played for a second (3 issues) but the purple screen that often happens with the WD media showed up again the files played fine but when I was done unplugging the hdmi cable it would not show the files on the screen anymore and now when I plug the passport in my computer to check it it will not show up on my File explorer or the drive file at all now!! This is Crap WD all of this has happened in just the past 3 days in the middle of another Covid shutdown, again how is this company still in business I now have several thousand files, and movies and things that I can now now find or retrieve or whatever!!!?? and these were my backups I only have some of what was on my My Book hardrive that is back uped on another hardrive but some of the best stuff was on this passport that suddenly stopped working or something??!Q!"

By 19th August the tracking was indicating that the items were still in the warehouse and all that had happened was that a ‘label’ had been created!
As this was supposed to be a birthday present for someone and time was moving on I contacted WD on the 19th and was advised that it may or may not be delivered by the 21st!
By lunchtime on the 20th it was still with WD with its label awaiting collection.
I contacted WD on the 20th and requested to cancel my order. I was advised that even though the order had not left their warehouse and they could not tell me when it was likely to leave their warehouse, I could not cancel the order!
Their recommendation was to wait for it to be delivered and then return it. So, I had to wait an undetermined amount of time for the items to be picked up and delivered to me so that I could then arrange for them to be recollected and returned to the warehouse that they are currently in....... ridiculous! (Not sure how environmentally friendly this process is but hey, at least they get to keep my money until it all gets sorted out, in their good time of course).
I pointed out that if I was a large organisation looking to fill a server farm with WD products they would have moved heaven and earth to ensure delivery was made but, unfortunately it is just me so, I must wait.
Their operative agreed!
When I asked to escalate the situation I was advised I could speak with a supervisor but I would be told exactly the same.
So, I am left without the product I have paid for, with no understanding of when, or if, they will arrive, but sure they will miss the deadline I needed them for.
I went with WD because I believed they were a reputable And reliable company, apparently not!

I purchased a 4TB gaming drive from their website on 12-June-20. The only shipping option was for 2-day for $50. I was thinking, " Wow, that's steep." But since I really needed the drive, I looked at it as an investment. I received the gaming drive on 17-June, which is not 2 days later. It didn't work on my PS4 or laptop. I contacted the support office hoping to get a replacement but was given a credit that didn't equal the total purchase price. Apparently, the online store doesn't refund the shipping price. I will not purchase anything WD or their other companies again. You would think that at a time when there are so many people unemployed and facing uncertain tomorrow's, that this company would appreciate it's customers."

They required me to send my receipt provided by Dish Network. Because the Dish Network receipt did not list the serial number of the device, the company representative, Jack ****, denied they request for a replacement device. They asked me for a picture of the box with the serial number, so I complied and emailed the picture to them. They made me jump through multiple hoops only to ultimately deny my request. "Bought a 4TB My Book EHD. Set up went fine. Backed up 1 drive fine! They software quit in the middle of the 2nd HD backup telling me to "Try Later". Waited 24 hours. Nothing! Called WD Tech Support. They had me on the phone for 6 hours and could not reload the software correctly onto my computer.
They blamed the computer! Now it did b/up 1 drive fine. So we tried on another computer...Software installed in EHD defective. Tried to download off link provided by WD Tech Support. No go! They again said it is your computer. Try a CHKDSK! Took 26 hours to run and error showed to Western Digital Software!
Now get this!!!!!!! Bought 2 days prior from their dealer. It was registered fine! When they recheck my serial number they say, "Heh, that s/n is out of date!" Wait I say! Here is the Paid Invoice!! They say heh..so what!!!! The S/N is out of date sorry we wont support the drive!!!!
This is the 4th Western Digital EHD that has gone bad and it is the last!
Never buy them again!"
