Hence dealing with it is extremely SAFE and SECURE. This was my only consideration when I decided to use the Xoom services. As a first-time user, the whole process took me 3 days. First, I registered and filled up the transfer form, next day I received an email from Xoom saying my application is on HOLD and it advised me to call up their customer service for verification. I called up their Customer service using my registered mobile number...they could fetch my details and asked me few questions regarding the source of funds and the recipient details etc. Immediately after the call they sent me another email requesting additional documents (a) Government identity (passport, driving license etc.) and (b) Your US bank (sender) account statement (this is very important). For faster response you might like to keep these digitized documents handy before initiating your transfer. Next day they will send you one more email asking you to enter the amount that they deducted from your bank account. This amount will not be the exact amount that you requested for transfer. Example: If you requested to remit $1000, Xoom might debit your US bank account with a random amount that is slightly less amount, say $999.82. Next, you'll receive an email from Xoom to enter this exact amount (including cents) that was deducted from your US bank. You need to enter this amount in the Xoom tracking...all this to validate whether you really own the bank account in the US. Once this is done...Zoom! within few hours the money will reach your Indian bank. The rates are locked when you request the transfer so you don't need to worry about the rate fluctuations. In all I had a reasonably pleasant first-time experience. Sometimes you might feel the validations are bit on the over drive but this is the only way to go in this unreal world. The only flip side I can say is that the rates are on the lower side when I compare with few other services. However, you need to take a balance between losing few paisa in the exchange rates but saving on mental agony, security of your money.
