"I've ordered from zappos five times now over the past three years. That includes at least ten pairs of shoes, several of which I've returned. I've never had a problem -- every transaction has gone smooth and quick. I've never paid a shipping charge in either direction. I live in a neighboring state and I've received most of my orders the next day via UPS ground.
Zappos' shoe selection is really good. My wife and I have found several unique styles that we don't see at local stores. Zappos' website is also easy to search and browse.
Their prices seem to have gone up over the years. But when I consider the selection and the easy-of-use, I think Zappos is the best place to buy shoes online or offline.

They pay return shipment, and they honor returns of unused items for (as I recall) up to a year. I tried a pair of shoes from them, found they did not have the right feel, put them aside for over 2 months before getting around to returning them. As they were unused, they were accepted without explanation, and refund was immediate.
This kind of service overcomes the problems of shopping on the Web for items like shoes or clothing."

"I ordered some specialty rollerblades (5 wheels, low boot) from Zappo's; it was my first time ordering there. Well I found the low cuff uncomfortable and the 5 wheels made steering impossible, so I packed them back up and returned them, using Zappo's oh-so-convenient pre-printed return labels. Shipping was free and they refunded my money when they got them.
Now I'm going to buy more conventional rollerblades from Zappo's. They ship quickly and their return policy is awesome; highly recommended.
UPDATE: The other rollerblades arrived today, literally two days after I ordered them, even though I chose standard shipping. For some reason they used 2nd-day air instead. No complaints here!"

"This is another order in fact. The one place on December 29th was received in two days. In fact I had to chane the shoe size on the pair of shoes, and Zappos did a shipment of the new size before I even sent back the original pair.

Surprisingly they do not have one, so I had to email them asking them if they could make an exchange. "First time using Zappos. Found the running shoes I wanted, but they were $30 cheaper on another site. I noticed that Zappos had a 110% price guarantee, so I called their customer support line. They asked me to give them the address for the cheaper site and in a few seconds they verified the price and sold me the shoes for the lower price plus gave me the 110% difference -discount. They then said they would upgrade me to two day shipping. The next day(Monday) I received an E-mail with the tracking info and a note saying that they upgraded me to overnite shipping. I received the shoes on Tuesday, in perfect condition. What more could you ask for? In addition, Zappos sent a return voucher with the order, saying I had 365 days to return the shoes, no questions asked. (so long as they had not been worn - absolutely amazing.) "By far this is the best online store ever. I’ve been an online shopper for more than 5 years, and shopping for shoes on the web was definitely out of the question just for the fact that you can’t try them on. However, this changed the minute I found Zappos.com. I found their website one day when I was looking for a pair of boots that I couldn’t find at any of the local malls. At first I was a little skeptical; free shipping, free returns, competitive prices, great variety, it sounded too good to be true; but what the heck, I’m an online shopper so I went ahead and purchased my pair of boots. Well, everything went smooth, and after two days I got my shoes, I was like “Already!!!” I was really amazed. That was about two months ago, and last Monday I went back looking for a pair PUMAs, after browsing for a while I found the ones that I liked and paid for them right away. WOW, they arrived on Wednesday; they actually upgraded my shipping at no charge just like my first order. The shoes felt a little tight, but that’s nobody’s fault, it happens.
