"No need to repeat all the other negative reviews. Absolutely no customer service. No one to talk to. Automated response only. Will not refund or replace defective product; automated response says not eligible for refund or replacement. Buyer be ware. "
"There is a reason why this Company's ratings are so bad and that's because the website indicates "Worry-Free Guarantee" returns, however when you go to return the book your return is denied. The Worry Free is on their side - they don't need to worry because nothing is going to be returned. We purchased a Chemistry book on this site of which we searched for the ISBN number and several books came up. The book cover matched the ISBN # matched, however when you actually ordered the book the book received has a different ISBN # and the cover is completely different. Of Coarse you don't know that when you purchase the book and apparently this Company feels that selling you something you actually don't need is good business. If you needed book ISBN#: 167 ... not sure why the Company feels someone can settle with book ISBN #: 195... If you search carefully you will realize this has happened quit often which is the driver for the very poor rating. "
"I'm very surprised at the poor customer service level evident in my recent order. I ordered four books using a coupon. All four books were eligible for free shipping from Alibris, and were listed as available on the Alibris website. Yet, Alibris cancelled the order for all four books saying they are not available. I could understand one of the books being out of stock, but not all four. I believe that the order was cancelled because I used a coupon that allowed me to deduct $9.00 from my order and receive free shipping for the total purchase. If they are going to advertise books as new and available, they should be able to deliver the product and allow their customers to use coupons and free shipping. Very poor customer service performance, and a terrible fail on Alibris' part."
"I placed an order a couple of months ago. The book was shipped in a timely fashion but the packaging arrived torn and resulted in dent that would not otherwise have been there. I appreciated having the ability to rate the seller on individual aspects of the order which included the shipment packaging. After providing my rating with some comments I received an email notification from Alibris' customer service and my shipping cost was refunded! I was surprised that my comments would be reviewed and responded to, I'll be shopping there again. "
"I order 40 days ago, I start tracing my order after 14 days, customer reply email to ask me to wait till 30 days. I email every days after 30 days, never get any respond. I wish I read all these reveiew before I order with this company"
"I have given them more chances then they deserve. They are jerks from the bottom to the top with the top management being worse than the bottom reps. They have no class. No customer service. Prices that are higher than anywhere else and quite honestly, the rudest, crudest managers I have ever run into. If you buy from them you will be sorry. Just look at their rating here and it is worse on the BBB site.

"My order total was $80. I was told I couldn't apply a coupon because my "order did not meet the minimum total of $75." I thought $80 was more than $75, but I guess not.
After hitting "check out," I was redirected to a blank gray screen that didn't load anything, then an error message telling me my cart was empty. I assumed the order didn't go through, and re-ordered my textbooks. Again, I got the same blank screen and error message. Then, I recieved two emails confirming both my orders went through and I have been charged for both. Tried to email Alibris customer service directly but their "contact us form" is broken. I tried to cancel one of my orders but Alibris doesn't let people cancel orders -- only contact the seller directly and HOPE that they will cancel or at least accept a refund after it's shipped. "
"I tried to try this website out. I'm 18 and I decided needed to read more! So I purchased a book from here. The website tells me when I'll be getting my book, which is a few weeks from when I bought them. If not a month later.
A week passes the estimated delivery date and I'm getting a little concerned. I checked the website, and tried contacting the seller. The seller has yet to respond to me and I've reached out to them twice.
A month has passed, not since ordering, but since the date it was supposed to ARRIVE. I once again reach out to the seller, this time annoyed rather than patient. And shockingly, no response.
I've contacted the actual website Alibris, more than 5 times also. They told me that if I email them again that it will take longer for them to respond to me, yet theyre totally active on their social media. :/
I'm not one to even make reviews like this, I'm generally very patient and I try to understand when people make mistakes. But this is just very irritating. This is my first time even reviewing anything online ahha. That's how much this bothers me.
Just don't buy anything from here. I should have looked better. "
"I was sent the wrong material from this company. They did not send me my textbook they sent me someone's notes/commentary on the textbook. When I told them that they accidentally sent me the wrong thing (and that it was poorly written) they took 5 days to respond. At that point they asked me to help them revise the poorly written manuscript. I asked if I could return the item or get a refund. After another unreasonably long wait, they told me that they were a third party and had no control over the materials that were sent and therefore were unable to facilitate a refund and unless I made another order I could not receive the materials. This is not a company. This is not a reputable seller. This company stole my money."
"I placed an order for an out of print book on 12/29/16 and it is 2/6/17 and I have STILL not received my book. There has been NO communication regarding my order and the only way to get in touch with the company is through email - there is a customer service number but it is only a recording that tells you to send an email. The email just sends back an automatic response that they have "high volume" and they'll try to get back to you in 48 hours.... Really?? I don't have much hope that I will ever even get my book. What is even more frustrating - they immediately charge you for your purchase when, obviously, they don't intend on getting it to you. I will NEVER do business with them again and suggest you don't either. "
"Beware of buying cheap books that say instructor's review copy! When you get the book it will state that it is not for sale however Alibris contends that legally they are allowed to sell them. They got these books for free so it is 100% profit for them. So as a student I won't be able to sell this book after I finish taking my class.
Lousy customer service too!"
"Beware of doing business with this company. I had a book sent to my mother who lives in an apt. building. The post office listed the package as refused. My mother said that a package was never delivered to her. Obviously, the package was delivered to the wrong apartment because it was given back to the postal worker. The post office then returned the item to the sender. The sender says they haven't received the return (6 weeks after postal return). I explained the situation and asked for a refund several times from Alibris. All I get is the run around. I finally just disputed the charge with my credit card company. I will not be doing any business with this company again"
"Hi.
I ordered a grammar book last Sunday and it arrived 6 days later. The book was a former library book so it was very cheap but in excellent condition.
Excellent service. I did ensure that I used a highly rated seller. "
"I agree with everyone that has written a negative review. As a first time customer, I asked for a coupon and was told a coupon would be applied to my order, but not how much it would be.
When I replied that I would only buy the book when I knew the amount I was paying for it. Didn't hear from the agent I had been working with. Someone else emailed me and took back the offer.
Not honoring the offer of a coupon has caused me to view this company as dishonest and lacking integrity.
I will not bother with them again."
"This is specifically for the seller on Alibris called Powell's Books, in Portland OR. Their rating on both Alibris and Abebooks is the highest possible, and they offer antiquarian items, so I thought I'd be safe ordering from them, even though the book was not expensive. I ordered on Sept. 26 (Monday) and received the SOP email from Alibris informing me the book was shipped (got email same day as I placed order). 2 days later got another email with a tracking number. Clicked on tracking number and USPS came up stating they couldn't find it; recheck tracking number or try again later. This happens from time to time, so I waited. By the end of the week when USPS was still saying the same, I thought maybe the tracking number was an error, so I sent Powell's an email (Alibris allows buyers to contact seller), asking about tracking number. After several days of no response AND the PO showing same message, I got concerned and suspicious. Started running tracking number on other carrier's websites. Struck gold with UPS Mail Innovations. Showed shipment being tendered to them on Wednesday 28th (2 days after I placed order) in Portland OR. Then showed package received for processing in Auburn WA same day. On Thursday the 29th the package was processed by UPS MI and transferred to destination MI Facility, all in Auburn WA. And that's all the information that was available for several days, until Tuesday October 4. Then the data showed the package was received by destination MI Facility in Windsor CT; ready for PO entry in Windsor CT; package enroute to USPS for induction in Windsor CT, and at 2:07 PM same day shipment info received by PO Albany NY. Then it said that on the same day, the package was transferred to Albany PO. I of course then ran the tracking number on the USPS website; it showed that on October 4th, Pre-shipment info sent to USPS, USPS awaiting item. That's when I saw it had been classified Bound Printed Matter by PO. I paid $3.99 shipping which is standard for Alibris and almost always results in items going 1st Class Mail (the exceptions are for companies I've given other negative reviews here and at Alibris). Every time I get items going thru Albany (I live in Upper NY State) that are classified 1st Class Mail, the items get to my PO from Albany in about 7 hours; usually they leave late one night and arrive next morning in time to be sorted and out to my house. This time, since the package was not classified 1st Class, no delivery was made to our PO until October 11th; I got the book that afternoon, resulting in 15 days from ordering to getting (no I'm not counting Columbus Day, the PO celebrates that day). I've gotten books from Europe in less time. I never did hear back from Powell's concerning the tracking number, and I can only guess they didn't want to admit they'd used a cheaper carrier when I paid the cost of 1st Class mail. While I waited for more info and my book, I had time to check other feedbacks on Alibris concerning Powell's. They assuredly are a large dealer (I saw available feedbacks for thousands of items) who have been selling even before the internet was born. But I saw that amid the 1000s of feedbacks at least 200 negative ones. People have gotten books in bad shape, bad packaging, slow shipments, and wrong items altogether! I saw quite a few feedbacks saying they never got their book, despite their credit cards being charged with alacrity. At the same time that I placed this order, I ordered from 2 other dealers thru Alibris. One shipped 1st Class day after I placed order and I got book on Saturday October 1st. That's 6 days from Louisiana to upper NY State, (outstanding) and the amount I paid was actually less than what I paid Powell's. I left as bad a review as space allowed at Alibris, & will probably get one of their canned responses about how they eliminate bad dealers every day (not 1 that I've badly reviewed has ever been eliminated), and how sorry they are this happened to me. The worst thing is that I buy quite often antiquarian books (go to bookfairs several times a year) and was using this order to test Powell's with the intention of buying from their antiquarian selection. No way will I do that now. And the list of sellers I keep under the note NEVER BUY FROM AGAIN just got another seller. Probably I should quit Alibris altogether. But some of their dealers have treated me very well and I don't think they should be punished. "
