"On 20 January 2015, I purchased a Macbook Pro laptop on eBay for$791. The seller listed it in working order and having been inspected by Apple. The seller had excellent feedback, excellent communication, and it arrived promptly on 23 January.

Just over a week later, the logic board failed, and the seller refused to accept a return, a partial refund for the estimated cost of repairs (an additional $425), or provide documentation that it had been inspected by Apple. The repair shop where I had it inspected confirmed that the logic board was faulty, and that the failure was not caused by user error.

I opened a case with eBay on 3 February stating that the item was not as described (since the seller had no proof that it had been inspected by Apple), and it had failed within the time frame of their 30-day Buyer Protection clause. Ebay closed the case on 5 February in favour of the seller stating that because I had owned it for a week before contacting the seller for a return, it had been altered and was no longer returnable. My purchase should be covered under eBay's 30-day protection, but they have instead sided with a seller who lied about the condition of the computer.

I have spoken directly with the case manager at eBay, but she was not helpful. I have contacted the seller once again requesting a partial refund for cost of repairs or a full refund for a return.

I have filed official complaints about eBay's customer service with the Better Business Bureau and IC3; but I am still out $791 for a computer shaped brick, and an additional$425 if I want it repaired. I cannot contest the charge through PayPal, because the case has been closed, and I cannot contest the charge with my bank, because the seller refuses to authorise a return for the computer.

The customer service team is unhelpful, rude, and hung up on me twice after I respectfully requested to appeal the case. I have been an eBay customer since 2006, and I have had excellent dealings with eBay up until now. But I can honestly say that I have never been made to feel so helpless and insulted by a company that I once trusted. Don't expect anything from the eBay customer service team, specifically the high value items division of the Appeals Department.

"I order a wig from a seller (202workbull 127) it was pretty in it tissue paper. i cold washed the wig and it was very dirty! When i tried styling and try on the wig the wig matted so bad. I contact the seller and he or she did not respond. I had to open a case with ebay and ebay and the seller refund to refund my money. I will never order from 202workbull(127) or throw EBAy ever again. ebay customer service suck!"

"As many eBay sellers I was scammed by the fraudulent buyers a few times already, now additionally ebay changed their rules and they punish buyer for complaining and for reporting scammer buyer. You will not only loose your item and money but you will also receive 'not as described' strike from eBay just for reporting scam--if you are not one of Chinese mass sellers you will loose your seller discount immediately (and in reality forever). Sucker punch from team eBay and tiefs that eBay supports. Don't count on any help from eBay."

"If I could give a minus zero star, I would.

I put a bid on an item only to have someone else "BUY IT NOW" from right under my nose.

When I called Ebay, the customer agent told me that there are some categories where the "BUY IT NOW" does not go away unless 50% of the "BUY IT NOW" price has been met. I asked why was it not somewhere on the page and was met with this reply, "I am so sorry that you missed out on the Auction but it is "BURIED" somewhere it the Help Pages"!

Why the discrimination over what items should fall into this category? And, I asked why was it not shown somewhere on the listing page and the agent's reply was (Please note that the Agent was TALKING at the SAME time I was trying to make my point instead of letting me say what I wanted to say), "Well, it may seem easy to you but there are so many things and this as this does not apply to every category, it was not included"

Alright, here's the thing. While this matter is water under the bridge, and I understand that the agent has no control over the situation, he certainly had control over making things less combative. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED with the agent's rudeness and arrogance to say the least.

Ebay is touts itself as being fair etc. to buyers and sellers, but this incident is a good example of the term, "Caveat Emptor!"

"I will never use eBay again. I suggest you don't either. I ordered 3 things from 3 different resellers and none of them ever arrived even though their tracking states it was delivered. eBay then advised that I was not entitled to a refund. This is the worst customer experience of any kind that I have ever had to deal with. I feel like I have been stolen from and there nothing I can do about it. "

"Worst place ever. 2 weeks after a customer got a phone they decided "it wasn't new". I told eBay they are avoiding the restocking fee. They told me that they are going to ask the customer for pictures. I told them that the customer could drop the phone 10 times and take a hammer to it at this point as we have VIDEO AND PICTURES that the item was not shipped in that condition and the package arrived SEALED. eBay told me: "That's speculation."

This is not the first time this has happened. I have asked a rep "what if a customer sends me back a rock? Will you cover them?"

Their response "thats the cost of doing business... plus its your word vs. theirs"

You try to be Amazon but are failing completely.

"Do not understand why so poor rating. Ebay is huge online market with lots of (mostly from China) sellers.

I had problems with goods purchased via ebay, but ALWAYS ebay helped me to solve issue, no no problems at all. For me its experience is A+

"I have been a seller on eBay for a number of years and I have finally had enough with all the fee's and changes to the seller agreements that they hide away in the fine print. Over the holidays is suppose to be the best time of year for sellers, that is until they invoice you with all the new changes that went into effect. They actually invoiced me for more in fees for the month than I even sold in merchandise on the site. Enough is enough time for me to close the doors on this eBay store. Until they can get their act together enough to realize over charging the sellers for everything is just costing them business it isn't worth small US sellers time or effort. "

"Now for those who are rating Ebay as a "0.6" you do realize its a store based on real world sellers right? Most of the time its actually individuals who are just trying to make profit selling merchandise they make or what they dont want anymore and want to retail. Understand that Ebay itself is just a place where people gather to do these kinds of things. Rest assured I know of the horrors of shopping in Ebay. Yes, Ive been there and cheated out of my money, and yes I have also tried cheating others of their money. I have seen and experience both sides and know they very well. However, its up to the person if they want to buy from this store. Some of the sellers in Ebay are actually great retailers or small buisness owners themselves and they sell very high quality if not decent quality products. You just have to read reviews of the seller before buying from them. Like I stated before Ebay is a place for people to get together on the same grounds and come to an agreement on something, Much like a court case. You just have to look at the facts"

"Buyer mr.mafiaosno bought my new portable hard drive. Shortly after receiving it, he left a negative feedback for me. I contacted him and he demanded 50% refund. I asked for the pictures, but he refused stating that he's leaving for Germany for 1 year. After he open Buyer Protection case and ships back to me an empty box. Shipping label - provided by eBay - shows 20 lb weight for the item that was shipped originally with 13 oz weight. I reported this buyer to eBay and crookBay refunded him entire amount of my money plus charged me a return shipping. My appeal didn't change anything. Now I also reported this buyer as having use this racket scheme 58 times - from his Left for Other feedback. Again - no action from eBay. eBay is a monopoly and is operates in violation with United States antitrust law that prohibit the creation of a monopoly and the abuse of monopoly power.? "

"Using eBay is a HUGE mistake. I used them first almost a decade ago, and maybe they were fine there, but e-commerce has moved on and you're taking an ENORMOUS risk by working with eBay sellers. I won't recount my horrible experiences here, just want to make sure my negative voice is heard in the hopes it will save someone out there some grief."
