80GB 7200rpm Hard Drive

I received some generic brand, malfunctioning, firewire connection does not work, noisy as jackhammer (faulty fan?).
Now esystor wants 15% restocking fee and I have to ship it on my own (~$25 for nothing)
Never ever buy from them.

MACINTOSH USERS BEWARE!!! Esystor's FIREWIRE/USB PRODUCTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED WITH NATIVE MACINTOSH DRIVERS AVAILABLE WITH OS 8.6 THRU 9.2.2. OS X USERS BE CAUTIOUS!!!


I am alledging false advertising:

1. Misrepresented that Seagate Hard Drive in CoolMax external drive housing was Macintosh supported from OS 8.6 thru OS X. I tried device on OS 8.6, 9.0 and after an upgrade to 9.2.2. Apple System Profile recognized that their was a 'device' connected on USB. Mac Disk Drive SetUp gave a result "cannot initialize a disk in an unsupported drive".

2. Advertised that installation and 'Data Security" software would be included. Installation software for Windows was included. The instructions stated that Macintosh drivers were also available on the C309 disk but they were not. Technical staff directed me to numerous sites to download an appropriate driver...all were for Windows OS. Latest Mac Firewire and USB drivers fail to support Cool Max interface PCB & drive housing. CoolMax website does not respond to emails. No 800# for technical support.

3. www.esystor.com uses the Macintosh logo which implies that the associated product is supported directly by Apple/Macintosh driver software. Apple website redirected me to the OEM for the necessary driver.

4. Esystor represents that the drive I purchased was tested on a Macintosh computer prior to shipment. If this were true, they would have available the necessary driver to email me from their Walnut, Ca. store.

I returned the device only to have Esystor report that the interface cable was loose and the hard drive was now working fine. I was directed by Esystor technical staff Michael Cho to remove the drive from the housing, likely resulting in the loose connector. The message "cannot initialize a disk in an unsupported drive" occurred prior to that final attempt to get the device to initialize & partition.

Esystor wants to return the HDD to me with no mention of including the necessary driver. I would be back at square one! Should consumers lose 15% of the value of a product, original P & H, and return shipping because of a company's false advertising? NOT!

If this is not resolved immediately, I will be notifying Apple and the FCC regarding the false advertising. EBay declines to get involved without paying the Square Trader $20.00 fee. I will leave negative feedback on April 9, 2004 if not resolved to my satisfaction.

I am not the only Macintosh user thus inconvenienced. Esystor's business volume permits them to advertise that they are EBay's #1 Hardware store. Ebay/PayPal rake in the bucks, Esystor makes a killing, and consumers are left to 'bite the bullet' when the product fails to perform as advertised.

After lengthy discussion with Charlie in the RMA Dept, I was left with the impression that the incompatability of the CoolMax HDD was an error on my part. Charlie was not technically oriented. Said he would submit the request for a refund but I would likely be charged the 15% restocking fee. Still no admission that there was any false advertising...only that they publish what the manufacturer sends them.

Contacted Michel Cho to alert to the deficiency in drivers for per-OS X Macs and error on MFG's installation manual regarding inclusion of driver for Macs.
Michael is excellent both as a technician and in customer service. After brief review with me and consultation with the RMA staff, he called me back with a promise for full refund of $165.00 by weeks end...we'll see!

Received refund of $149.00. Lost $26.00 in S&H

Esystor still advertising compatibility for Macintosh OS 8.6 thru 9.2.2 and OS X.

They have yet to direct me to a site where I can download a driver for the Cool Max HDD enclosure. HDD does not accept standard Mac formatting or initializing without a third party program.

Esystor fails as a resellor in their reliance on what the supplier claims a product will do. I give them kudos for technical support, but management needs to prove availability of Macintosh drivers BEFORE they use the Mac logo in their advertising.

Will not buy from again.

"I order two hard drives on 7/20/2003 for $275 each ($550 total). The next day, they sent me an email telling me it was out-of-stock and sent me a link to a similar drive that was $365 as a suggested alternative. I checked the site again and the price for my original drive jumped up to $365 each. I told them I would accept the alternate drive, but refused to pay more since they were equal in price. They said $365 was the only price they could offer. The next day, I also had my friend email them in a way unrelated to my order asking them if they had the original drive I ordered in stock for immediate shipment – they replied yes. After more emails, the company told me they would offer $355 each, but that was the best they could do. Then I replied and told them no, I want the drive I ordered. The next day, they told me it was out-of-stock still. Then I wrote them back and told them that I knew they had it in stock and I was going to contact the BBB about this if they continued lying to me. They continued, so I am. I can provide the emails, web site information, and order printout if you need them. They placed my order on hold and referred me to the company policy."

"Purchased a Compact(3.5in) External Firewire Case with Hitachi 120GB 7200rpm from this company. Guy called me next day to confirm it was me on the CC because I put down a diff ship to. Got an email about 2 hours or so later and UPS tracking info etc. Unit arrived no problems. I had no problems and the process was pretty quick. I will probably pick up another HD from them."

"I WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT ON THIS COMPANY. FIRST OF ALL THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL IN THE DECISION PROCESS. THERE IS A GENTLEMAN THERE BY THE NAME OF MIKE IN SALES SUPPORT, WHO GOES OUT OF HIS WAY TO HELP ALL THAT HE CAN. I PURCHASED A VIEWSONIC MONITOR WHICH ARRIVED ON 6/30/03. UNFORTUNATELY THE PRODUCT ARRIVED DAMAGED. THERE WERE NO MARKS OR SIGNS OF DAMAGE TO THE CARTON BUT THE MONITOR WAS BROKEN. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MIKE AND HE SENT OUT A UPS PICKUP ON MY EMAIL. HE ALSO PUT A CREDIT THRU ON MY CREDIT CARD IMMEDIATELY, AND IT HAS APPEARED BEFORE THEY GOT THEIR MONITOR BACK. I THINK THAT THIS IS GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WOULD LIKE TO DO BUSINESS AGAIN. " In short, this company is shady. It deliberately misleads customers and potential customers about their inventory. I would like to help as many people as possible avoid making the same mistake as I did. DON'T ORDER FROM THEM.
I had a similar experience to mateu. I ordered a Dell Axim X5 on a Tuesday from their website. The price was good and their ratings on this site (resellerratings.com) were for the most part favorable. My main purpose in writing this review is to correct those ratings - in the downward direction.
When I ordered this item, it said it was in stock. Two days later my order status had not been changed and I started to wonder if I had entered the wrong credit card number or something. I emailed them to see if everything was okay, and they replied by informing me that the Axim was out of stock. I checked back at the site - which still said in bright red letters "In Stock - YES." I asked them when they were getting more in stock. Ans: "The end of the week." Friday comes and goes and my order status has still not changed. Because I needed the item within a certain time period and was being faced with an uncertain delay, I emailed them to see if they could give me a shipping upgrade to make sure it got here in time if this delay continued much longer. Ans: "It is not in my power to do that." Fed up with it, I cancelled my order on Saturday. If I had not emailed them when I did, who knows when or if I would have ever gotten my order filled.

"I live overseas, and finding a hardware vendor that will ship to my location is not easy, let alone finding such a vendor with competitive pricing. Was happy to find esystor.com. I purchased a 120GB firewire hard drive, a firewire CD/RW and an empty firewire enclosure. Prices were incredibly low, even with $80 for shipping. Quick order confirmation and easy to check order status. One minor quibble, browsing the site could be easier, and some product description is lacking. Would like to buy more from them, if they expanded the product selection. Nonetheless, overall experience was very positive and I would recommend them without hesitation."

"My experience was extremely positive. I ordered an external USB2/firewire combo hard drive, and the price couldn't be beat. I live in NY and was a little concerned about ordering from CA, but the item was shipped within a day, and arrived on schedule 7 days later at my house, complete and intact.

I had a problem initializing the drive and got email support within minutes from someone who definitely knew his job. they didn't try to shake me off, but gave me good, precise info, and now I'm up and running.
