"I got sick in Ireland and needed to see a doctor. I wasn't sure of the process so I called GeoBlue and they suggested speaking with a telehealth person. It took a long time for them to find someone and when I finally did speak with someone, they weren't very helpful. The next day I looked up
providers in the GeoBlue network and found a medical office not far from where I was. After more confusion about the process, I called GeoBlue again and got
payment authorization for an office visit. I called the office back and was told I couldn't get an appointment until the following week which didn't do me any good
. I called back GeoBlue and they said they had many providers in Dublin and would send me the list. But what they sent me was mostly a list of hospitals and specialty
clinics which were not what I
needed. There were one or two other general medical offices on
the list but they were too far away.
Finally, two days later I called the
medical office back and was told
they had a cancellation for the next morning. So I was finally able to get an appointment and saw a
doctor. Strangely, the doctor asked
how I got an appointment because they weren't taking any new
patients. Apparently, I just got
lucky. If I'd had to go to a doctor outside of the GeoBlue network
because the only place I could get
to wasn't taking patients or
couldn't see me in time, I would
have had to pay a $100 deductible
plus pay the fee out of pocket and
hope to get reimbursed by
GeoBlue. This doesn't seem fair.
The situation worked out for me in
the end but only because I
happened to get lucky. This system
of having to use their providers is
very problematic. "
