"I initially had no issues at all with MDG. My computer arrived as it should, however the case was different than expected but I lived with it. The components were also loose and the front panel where the usb etc plug in is very loose and always pushes in when trying to plug something in.

My main issue is the way they just arbitrarily take money out of my bank account. I have formally requested several times to stop auto withdrawing out of my bank account. I had become under employed and with their payment bouncing and my bank charging me then MDG trying again it was costing me more then the payment was in the first place.

I advised them through email to send me a bill of what I owed as I expected to receive money and would make payments when I could but. They just kept trying to take money out. And now 10 days before they are supposed to they JUST took another payment. Just at random times.

This sub-par machine has cost more then it's worth. The customer service is so non-existent that its hard to even fathom how they stay in business. But I guess when you prey on the down-trodden you come out ahead.

With my new employment I could pay off the debt. And will. Why they insist on phone I will never know. They sell electronics ... its the digital age. I do all my communication online. However, tomorrow I am taking time out of my busy work schedule so I can tell them to send me a bill and cancel my account once again.

Do yourself a favour people, get you computer some place else. Look online, check kijiji. go to dell. Never ever trust MDG with your account information!!!

"They might have some finacing available but instead charging monthly, they charge every two week! I was approve for finacing to find this out! I applied for extra and same thing! I recently tried contacting them by email to withdraw from agreement, still they haven't got to me! If you ever need financing, go with Dell, for $20 per month for laptop, we can even get an extermal monitor for around $6/month and they charge monthly instead! Go with Dell while has more value!"

"We bought an MDG computer at the store in Whitby Ontario in May.The whole package, including Windows 7 basic, came to $640 plus tax. We returned in August for some minor repair and found that the store was totally vacant. We eventually got the work done elsewhere but were informed that we were lacking the certificate of authenticity which should accompany any legitimate use of Windows 7. On contacting the head office, I was told that MDG has decided not to honour any warranties or other dealings from the Whitby store because "strange things had been happening there".I assume that the version of windows 7 that we got was pirated.Although my bill clearly states that MDG Canada received my money, they refuse to provide me with the certificate that I paid for. What a way to run a business !"

"I purchased a MDG Vision Pro 3700S notebook on payments 02/28/2007 and bought the 3 yr parts & labour extended warranty package (which is worthless) all this cost $1851.82 (which ended up being $3114.61)

Payed religiously for approx. 2 years @ $65.50 a month and then went to pay it out and found out that I owed $1542.61 still! This laptop cost me over $3100 in the end and if I was to sell it I could only get around $700 for it in mint condition!

Thats not the worst part. We have had to send it back in for repairs 3 times and pretty much each time we have had to pay MORE! The salesmen/woman are the most rude and ignorant people I have ever had conversations with in my life and I buy and sell online so I talk with ALOT of people everyday! They lie, cheat and steal your money!

First time it broke was a week after we received it. The hard drive crapped out. Call in and they told us we could either send it back or bring it into the Vancouver store for repairs. We live 1800 miles away from Vancouver but we had planned on a vacation down there in the Summer (which was just a month away) so we waited. While in Vancouver we spend a whole day trying to find the store with 4 kids in our van. MDG had the WRONG address listed on the MDG website so we drove around aimlessly for hours, called the store twice and got East Indians that could barely speak English and were very hard to understand. Well after about 5 hours we finally got a pedestrian to show us where it was......walked in to the store finally and wait in line for another 45 mins only to find out the store doesn't stock the hard drive and we will need to send it in anyways. FURIOUS we left and called our sale rep....ya he was no help and didnt give a damn. When we got home we had to send it in and of course pay more money for the repair (forget just how much). When it came back (like 2 months later) all my important files were gone and everything was changed......horrible experience!

The laptop worked ok for the next few months then the DVD burner died, keys stopped working, speaker would not work and the LCD case and hinges were cracking and breaking. So we sent it back again. This time I sent a nice butt kissing letter along with the laptop and it came back within 2 weeks and no cost to us. We were stoked and thought that MDG must be changing their ways.

Again the laptop worked for a few more months before the LCD case and hinges started to crack again and then the hard drive failed again. I called and got a RMA and sent it back again (with another butt kissing letter) 2 months go by and no word. Finally I break down and call. I was told we will have to pay another $280 for the LCD case, a new (upgraded) hard drive as they do not stock the old one, and battery clips. I fought with the man on the phone about this telling him the laptop was babied and barely used there is no reason we should have to pay for this when we have a gold warranty package. They claim now that all this is our doing....I have yet to call them back and tell them to proceed with repairs or not. I think I am going to file a BBB complaint and demand a refund of my money and if nothing comes of that I will take MDG to small claims court for a full refund on the $3500+ piece of crap they sold/scammed me on.

I could probably write a 10 page letter on MDG and what they have done to us but I will keep it short. Buyer beware with this company! They are scammers and Steve Nash should be ashamed to be their spokes person. They lie, cheat, scam and steal your money then send you garbage. This MUST be stopped!

MDG if you read this I WANT my hard earned money back. You ripped off a honest hardworking family of 7 and it is not right. You have my computer and I want my money back. All $3114.61 of it!

"Recently bought an 'Aptonbook L' from MDG at a total of $1580.87. Other than the fact that the laptop itself is a stripped down version of the Compal IFL90, the hardware performance was decent at best for its price.

To be concise, my main dissatisfaction derives from MDG's absurd dishonesty.

1. Misleading advertisements - I was pulled in by its amazing ads in which MDG claimed to be giving away FREE XBOX 360's and NO PST / NO GST. After consulting a sales representative in person, I was casually told that the XBox 360 was "of a different promotion" and that it was exclusively applicable to the "+ model" systems. I then went on to ask about the NO GST/PST offer. In his same effortless tone, I was told that it was also a part of a "different promotion" which came only with the "2007 Models"

2. Slow delivery - I placed the order for my laptop on August 15th, 2007. On the invoice it specifically sates the Due Date to be Aughst 22nd, 2007. After 3 weeks of numerous phone calls to customer service and countless broken promises that my laptop would be "ready in 2 days", I requested to have my order canceled due to MDG's poor service. Not only was I unable attain my 40$ deposit, I was subjected to a 15% cancellation fee. The sales rep finally called me on September 8th, 2007 to inform me that my computer was ready for pick up. This, however, was only the start of more disappointment.

3. More misleading advertisements - As I picked up my laptop, I was surprised to find that I was not given one single "free upgrade" that was mentioned in the advertisement prior to my purchase. NO free printer: only a mail-in-rebate that covers no more than 50% of its original price which I would have to pay myself IF i choose to purchase the printer. NO software bundles: since I requested to have a blank hard disk drive installed, I was given absolutely no softwares. NO Call of Duty 2 game: same reason as above. NO skype phone: "a different promotion" (third time this phrase has been used by this salesperson). NO complimentary internet service: I did not even bother asking.

Now that I had my laptop (without the useless "upgrades"), I thought everything would be smooth sailing. Once again, I was wrong.

4. Incorrect (inferior) parts -
On the invoice: "Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6GHZ 2MB Cache CPU". What I aquired: Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5GHZ CPU.
On the website: "Kingston DDR2 High Performance memory". What I acquired: "Samsung DDR2 SDRAM"

I have yet to contact MDG.

Basically everything I've said so far can be summarized into this simple message: stay away from MDG. (MDG has a No Refund Policy)
For those that have purchased MDG computers, a simple program such as System Info (http://www.gtopala.com/) will reveal every last detail of the computer system. You might find an unpleasant surprise.

"On the surface, MDG may offer competitive prices and great deals; however, MDG actually swindles customers with fraudulent advertisements in addition to clandestine substitutions of system components for inferior counterparts or brands.

I purchased a Vision L (2007 Model) computer from MDG Computers on July 14, 2007 for $1,387. Ten days later, I examined the specifications of the computer I received, and I realized that I received an incorrect computer component. As advertised on the MDG website www.mdg.ca, the Vision L model should have a RAM card from Kingston Technology Company, but instead I received a RAM card of an inferior and cheaper brand: Corsair. I contacted customer support that night, and the representative instructed me to speak to the store manager in person.

Furthermore, I am also disappointed with MDG's unethical advertisement practice. I was at first enticed to visit the store because of their flyers, which advertised that MDG was offering a free Microsoft XBox 360 with all desktop and notebook +models on July 14 and July 15, 2007. When I visited the store, the sales representative nonchalantly informed me that the special offer only came with models that cost in excessive of $1,600.

MDG also used ambiguous component names in hopes of swindling its customers, such as the Intel® Two Core™ Processor that was said to come with the Vision L model according to the advertisement within the store and on the MDG website. I confirmed with the Intel Corporation website www.intel.ca that Intel does not name any of its processors as Intel® Two Core™ Processor. This name implies that the processor MDG is offering belongs in the superior Intel® Core™ Family, while MDG actually ships a slower, and out-dated processor -- Pentium D processor -- in the inferior Intel Pentium family with the Vision L model that I purchased. Additionally, the trademark superscript indicates that MDG is using the word, “Core”, in the sense that Intel is using it, further implying that MDG’s so called Intel® Two Core™ Processor belongs in the Intel® Core™ Family.

On July 26, 2007, I re-visited the store and addressed my complaint with the manager. He expressed disinterest and challenged me to engage in litigation against MDG. I called customer support and was instructed to call technical support. Technical support then told me to call customer support. It seemed that the two departments are more interested in tossing responsibilities to and fro than in helping its customers.

Above all, I am extremely dissatisfied with MDG's unethical business conducts involving the authenticity of its product and the advertisements thereof.

"I ordered an Apton 3500XD, with a 20" LCD flat panel monitor, Intel Core2 Duo E6400, 2GB DDR2 Ram, DVD+/-RW at 16x, 250GB WD SATA hard drive, Altec Lansing 121 Speakers/subwoofer, Windows MCE preloaded, and Wireless keyboard/mouse.

So far, my system has been working great, and my sales rep was helpful to me. (He forgot to tell me they were going to deposit a random amount, and withdraw a random amount, both less than a dollar, and at that time, I had basically $0.01 in my account at that time. Because of that, I got dinged a $35 NSF fee by my bank. My sales rep however, ate that cost, and reduced the price of my computer that amount.)

Also, when I applied, for some reason the system glitched, and my home phone number had the last 2 digits chopped off. The customer service was helpful in getting that resolved, and I got my computer. I have been happy with it so far.

(Update May 20, 2012. While it looked like I had kingston ram in my computer, I only found out after I upgraded one of the 1GB sticks to 2GBs, that the kingston modules that were installed, were counterfeit. That as a result has bumped my rating of them down a bit.)

"My purchase from MDG Computers has been pretty much the opposite of most folks on here, so far.

I ordered an MDG 3000TV online and was contacted by a sales representative. She was very helpful, describing a package that was best suited to my needs according to my budget.

It took just a day to get my credit approved and then another day to get the order processed (there was a weekend in between). Not only did my computer system arrive on time as promised, it arrived a day earlier than originally expected.

When I opened up the package, I found that the system was beyond my expectation! I received the 3000TV with the Intel chip as promised however, there were a few things that seemed different than my order.

I was told I would receive a simple LCD 19" monitor, and, lo-and-behold, I received a WIDESCREEN 19" monitor...a nice surprise. Next, I was surprised that I didn't receive the XP Home Edition as promised...I received the XP Media Centre Edition instead. That made me smile. I also received a very attractive bundle of 2006 Microsoft Works software, a very nice Lexmark multi-purpose printer, a surround sound system with sub-woofer and a few other pieces of software and hardware upgrades that I wasn't expecting based on the initial order. They even threw in a digital camera/web cam. A 3 year warranty was included in my price of under $1500.

All the equipment appears to be of very high quality, and so far I'm very satisfied.

In the past I've purchased Gateway (with horrible tales to tell), Dell (3 for my business out of which one was a dud), and now MDG.

In my opinion, there's always a chance for error. According to published information, MDG has sold over 1 million computers in Canada, so the odds are good that a few will have problems. I also appreciate buying from a Canadian company, unlike most high profile manufacturers and dealers.

My systems still very new, so I guess only time will tell as to how I rate or appreciate my MDG, although, so far, they get a "Thumbs Up".

"MDG Newmarket was unable to repair my new machine after returning it twice and paying $275. The machine never ran more than 3 days without beeping three times and turning itself off. On Oct. 18th I retained a private repairman, he replaced the inferior power supply unit and a faulty 'Corsair' memory chip. (Corsair is not on Intels recommended list). His time, a power supply unit, 2 'samsung' chips' and 404.70 later,I was up and running within two hours, and am still running. MDG's (arrogant) professionals (?)were unable to troubleshoot their own machine after two tries. Not only that they were ignorant to the point that it was impossible for their machine to have a fault---it must be me, HELLO! I don't begrudge paying the $404.70 but I am about the $275 plus 4 hours traveling time to MDG Newmarket. I acknowledge that it was 'I' who made the grave mistake of buying from MDG. I thought that purchasing their top of the line 'APTON' model I would have been safe. Buyer beware!"

"4-5 weeks ago, I bought a cool dual core vision laptop from MDG. I have read quite a bit about dual-core from Intel but I was not quite sure how I could benefit from it.

I decided to visit an MDG store outside of the GTA (Burlington) last week to see first hand what MDG had on offer.

At first, I wanted to see a horizon laptop. I soon realized after speaking with the sale representative that it was not the right computer for me. It wasn't smooth talking that convinced me either. I am not one that is easily taken for a ride. I got the distinct feeling that it did not have enough to really accomodate me.

I asked for to see the next line upwards and still remained unconvinced. After listening to the representative for a few more minutes, I decided to play around with the laptop on display that was power by intel dual core. I was literally blown away by its speed and efficiency.

I was fully expecting the sales guys to quote a price that was beyond my budget. Little did I know that the price he offered was like $200 less than what I had set a side to spend.

I could not resist. How could I? It was one heck of a deal.

I made signed papers 10 minutes later and walked out with a very powerful laptop.

Thumbs up to MDG on a really great product!

"My Experience with MDG has been filled with ups and a whole lot more downs.

I purchased my computer over the phone. The Sales Rep was great at figuring out what sort of components i need for what i would be doing with the computer, and the only up saling he did was for items i already wanted to get. So i figured this is great i tell my friends and family. My cousin and parents are now considering to purchase a computer through MDG now.....

then they get my deposit for the computer, and it all falls apart.

Sales rep tells me after my deposit is cleared i should receive my computer in 3 days. Well 3 days turned into 3 weeks.

after one week i call MDG and a customer service rep tells me that the item is being shipped that day and i should get it in 2 days. 2 days later no computer, so i call again the CSR tells me the same thing i should get it two days. Another 2 days later still no computer. This went on 2 more times. When i finally called the Sales rep back and talked to him about it, and that got me no where. Basically he got the sale and his comission probably, so what does he care. i finally talked to a CSR that said he was a supervisor and that he would look into the issue and call me back, which he did and he stated that i should for sure get my computer within 2 days and if not to call him back personally, so i figure great i'm finally getting this mess taken care of.

The 2 days go by and guess what....
NO COMPUTER

I think about changing my mind on this purchase and cancelling the order all together but of course my deposit is nonrefundable.

so i call this so called supervisor and i get his voice mail (surprise, surprise)and leave a message about how upset i am about this and to call back as soon as possible. Of course i get no call, but later that day i get a call from UPS saying that they were not able to deliver the package because there was no apartment number on the delivery form. So i call MDG AGAIN and the CSR tells me, this i could not believe, that it was MY fault because i did not give anyone my full address, which of course i know full well i did, i'm not stupid i know to include my apartment number. so we argued for 5 minutes, and she said she can get the proper information to UPS in 24 hours and i should get the computer in 2 more days, this 2 more days thing must be the main focus of their training. but instead i call UPS my self and get it straightened out.

I Get the Computer the next day the UPS guy gives me the boxes, the first box is the monitor, and yet another surprise its the WRONG monitor. so i refuse it but accept the other two boxes and call back again. I tell the CSR about this new problem, she looks into it and calls me back and apologizes for the mix up (first apology i received by the way). she says she will call back in 2 days to see if i received my proper monitor, that was 3 days ago now.

I open the boxes i did keep to make sure eveything else was correct and it was, so i hook the computer up and its working fine until i try to watch videos off the internet.

Now i have to speak to a tech agent, i know enough about computers but not enough to go messing with files and stuff like that. The agent tries walking me through the process of doing a system recovery, and of course he gets upset with me because i can't understand half the things he is saying because of his accent. So i do the recovery and i go to reinstall the software for the video card upgrade i got but the disk is cracked and useless. So i call again (at this point MDG is on my speed dial by the way) i'm told that they don't keep extra disks and they cannot send me one but i can get the software off the internet and gives me a path to get get. The path was wrong and after 30 minutes of searching i finally found it myself. and my video problem wasn't even fixed nothing changed, so i call the tech support for my internet provider they fixed it no problem (even though it was a computer issue and not an internet issue).

After all this i was not offered any kind of compensation, i did not ask for any but feel it should have been offered (i know only in a perfect world). Especially since i work graveyard and stayed up during the day waiting for a package that never came every 2 days for 3 weeks.

So in a nutshell:
Sales Reps: knowledgeable and helpful, until the sale is complete after that no point in talking to them.
Customer Serive: Absolutely BRUTAL, worst CSR's i have ever dealt with.
Tech Sup: Only spoken with them once, but was not impressed at all
Shipping and Delivery: Not sure what the problem was with shipping it, but the shipping invoice i received was dated 02/09/2006 and i did not receive the package until 02/20/2006, i'm not great at math but i'm sure that is more than 3 days.
Product: I have no Complaints its working fine, but again its only been 3 days, time will tell.

As for my cousin and my parents purchasing a computer from MDG, it isn't going to happen. I wouldn't wish my Experience with MDG upon anyone it was a complete nightmare.

Thank You For Your Time

"My situation is practically identical to that of KoolKanuck. I bought a Horizon 3000LX on Dec 24/05 and instead of a Pentium 4 was given a Celeron. I also was encouraged to take the Viewsonic monitor that was $190 and had a $100 MIR on the grounds that the quality of the free upgrade was not as good. We have been doing renovations in our home and just went to get the new system up and running today (everything is still in the origial packaging) and found we had a Celeron instead of Pentium 4. Nowhere in their ad was a Celeron mentioned, or I would not have purchased this system. In fact, the ad had a big Pentium 4 logo in the upper corner. I immediately called the Kingston store where we purchased the computer and spoke with our sales rep, expecting he would tell me they would install Pentium 4 if I took the CPU back in to the store. He was very rude and basically refused to help in any way. I had purchased my first computer from this same store four years ago and had no problems, which is why I went back there this time. That turned out to be a huge mistake. MDG will never get my business again, and I will make sure to inform anyone I can of their questionable practices."
