"As a long time professional in the realm of animation, I sometimes rely on stock 3d models to fill in the gaps on various projects with regards to various characters, props, etc. During a recent experience with Turbosquid, I needed to know some specifics about a particular model before purchase to make sure that I would be able to convert it for use in Maya, and there were some aspects to the model that were not clearly shown in the promo images. I contacted the online help and chatted with a representative who assured me that the model would fit my needs, and I made the purchase, which was over $200.
Once I downloaded the figure, I was surprised to find that the representative either intentionally misrepresented the product, or did not have the slightest idea what they were doing. Not only was the model missing geometry that I specifically asked the representative about...but the model was also missing important textures! This is absolutely not acceptable for an expensive 3d model that us supposed to be of professional level quality.
Upon complaining about this to customer service, they made me fill out a lengthy questionnaire about the problem, hemmed and hawed about trying to contact the artist to get the missing components, and then they sent me sub par color swatches in place of textures. When I asked for a refund based on the amount of time I had already wasted with them on the project (they took over 3 weeks for any sort of action to be taken - and I was forced to use an alternative model in its place to meet my project deadlines), they refused, stating that it was too late and I had already downloaded the model...then they proceeded to DELETE MY ACCOUNT without explanation.
At this point, it is probably useful to note that during my communications with the Turbosquid team I was always open, honest, and amiable with them and did my best to conduct myself in a professional manner. This is completely unacceptable, and unfortunately I have concluded this experience by filing a dispute through my CC company."
