"I bought an Asus W5A from PROPortable, and have nothing but good to say about PROPortable, and the laptop. Some background:
I needed an ultraportable for my work - lugging a 8 lb "light design" HP just wasn't cutting it. There was intense pressure (from the company IT) and friends to buy a ThinkPad or Dell, when I ran into the Asus W5A. I only knew that Asus was a motherboard /computer parts manufacturer, so was skeptical. In my research for reviews about this laptop, I ran into a 100% technoGeek bulletin board where more than 1 person praised both their Asus (non W5A models) and their experience with PROPortable. So I decided that PROPortable was a logical first port-of-call.
I exchanged several emails with PROPortable Sales - asking about Asus, the W5A, how *they* would rate it, etc. PROPortable's responses were very prompt (via email) and very forthcoming, and, against the better judgement of my IT friends, I went ahead with the purchase.
I decided to go for the limited supply black/"carbon" case version.
There was a slight delay in shipping - PROPortable discoverd that boxes from Asus labeled as "carbon" were in fact white/"perl" and they were getting replacements - they were very proactive about keeping me informed about the cause of the delay - I appreciated their honesty.
Once shipped the laptop arrived promptly, and within 2 hours I was putting it to use on an extended business trip. Great little machine - for my kind of work. Eye-turner at meetings as well!
The W5A was advertised as carrying a wireless A/B/G minicard. I discoverd that the one I had actually had a B/G card. When I contacted PROPortable about this, they said he'd look into it. And an hour later, I had a response: as it turns out, the white Asus' that PROPortable had did indeed have the A/B/G card; Asus had begun shipping newer units, like the the machine I received with B/G cards only, but failed to inform their resellers.
When I told PROPortable that I had access to a couple of A networks, and the A/B/G card in the Asus a big part of the buying decision, PROPortable told me they would be willing to swap out the B/G for the A/B/G if I sent the laptop back to them. I haven't done it, despite at least 2 reminders from PROPortable that the offer for the swap was still on (3 months after the purchase!; now that's my definition of "Customer Care"). Truth be told, I cannot afford to part with the machine now - it's become too integral to my work/web-surf life [I'm sending in this review on said machine at an airport lounge].
I'd recommed PROPortable without a thought, and, should I need to purchase another machine, I'd be looking there first (and at Asus PCs)."
