"I took a chance ordering from "anywhere-but-Amazon" and learned my lesson - never again! I ordered an iRobot Roomba 980 ($900), thinking I would save around $80 on taxes vs buying from Amazon.
The package was apparently delivered, along with 2 others from 2 other merchants, but the delivery guy thought it was ok to leave 3 boxes on the sidewalk in front of my house since I wasn't home. According to ABT, a signature was required, but the driver dumped it outside anyway! (I live in the middle of San Francisco, where most houses are built side by side, opening directly onto the sidewalk, i.e. no place to hide/leave packages - you need to be home to answer the door. Leaving anything, whether a large item for garbage pickup or a bike or an unopened box labeled "come steal me, look at the nice photo on the box of a fancy robot vacuum!", is guaranteed to be gone in 5 minutes...) I only know this from an anonymous neighbor who took a photo of the outside of my house when the 3 boxes were delivered, and shared it on our community watch online forum. By the time I arrived home, of course there was no sign of any box/delivery; it wasn't until I saw the photo online that I realized my packages had been stolen.
I immediately contacted Abt to report the incident. They were quick to reply, with a vague "sorry, we have a billion satisfied customers and we will figure this out" message. This was 10 days ago. I finally called UPS myself to get an update; they would be liable to Abt, meaning Abt gets a refund for my stolen package. No word from Abt - guess they'll profit by keeping my money and the double payment from UPS, while I'm out $900 with nothing to show for it!!
Here's how this scenario would have played out if I had ordered from Amazon:
- order delivered incorrectly and unfortunately stolen
- I call Amazon and speak to a customer service rep for 5 minutes or less
- a replacement order is shipped, free overnight delivery
- My new Roomba and I live happily ever after
- Amazon deals directly with their carrier regarding the delivery problem, *because they trust and care about their customers*
Lesson learned."
"I purchased a new 50" Samsung TV. When I plugged it in, there was a 3" vertical line across the entire screen. I called to see what needed to be done to get new TV sent out that wasn't defective. I was told that once I had possession of the TV I had to go through Samsung for any warranty repairs. I said it wasn't a warranty issue, it was a defective new product. To no avail. I am still waiting for the TV to be repaired through Samsung (the repair company is waiting on the parts)."
