"So after doing a lot of research about the decking products we wanted to use we landed on Ipe. Dense, hard, last forever and doesn't have the problems and issue that composite decking does. Then came the next step, where to buy. We looked around locally first and while a few lumber yards offered it none of them actually stocked the material. We then did research online and came across a few companies. We ultimately choose to go with Advantage due to the free shipping. The wood while dense is also heavy and rather pricey to ship. Offering the free shipping essentially gave us a 15% discount compared to other prices we had received. We took delivery about 4 days after the order was placed without an issue. The wood is beautiful and each piece has its own individuality (another reason we chose not to go with composite). The deck has been installed now for about week and is exactly what we wanted. While I do not normally write reviews I stumbled across the BAIT and SWITCH review on this site while going to Advantages page to use their live chat feature to ask a quick question. I felt compelled to explain this couldn't be farther from the truth. The free shipping saved me over $1,000 on my order. While we made our purchase through their online store anytime I or our contractor had a question they were always there to answer. "
"I shopped at Advantage Lumber for deck tiles. They advertised free shipping over $1500. However, free shipping doesn't apply to deck tiles on sale. I figured the sale would be enough to off set the shipping costs. But it's not. It's costing me MORE to buy SALE products than to buy full retail items. That is the very definition of a bait & switch.
DO NOT BUY FROM ADVANTAGE LUMBER UNTIL THEY FIX THEIR PRICING TO BE FAIR TO THE CONSUMER. "

"We had a 15 year old cedar deck that was past its prime. My wife and I decided that the next deck would be the last we built. So we set out doing our research. Liked Ipe but didn't love it. We wanted something with more of a color contrast and found Cumaru on Advantage Lumbers web page and ordered a sample, which was free. We received a full catalog, sample of screws with ipe clips, a dvd full of information and 5 samples of different wood. We called and spoke with two different sales which helped figure the amount of boards, screws and sealer we needed with a little overage. Ordered the material on the 2nd and took delivery on the 9th about week later. I was able to schedule a delivery date with the shipping company and had all hands on deck to unload the 18 wheeler that showed up. A side from the initial shock we quickly unloaded the material. Had two boards that were damaged but we ordered additional material. The manager offered to refund the cost of the two boards which we gladly accepted. The rest of the load was beautiful. Letting the wood acclimate the last two weeks and hope to get everything installed over Thanksgiving. "
"Do not use this company, I repeat do not use them. They have sent me broken pieces of wood three times in a row. It certainly was sent broken from their end as it was packaged tightly and could never have broken upon shipment. The consultant told me they have too many customers so mistakes are normal!!! They took an order from me for pre grooved wood and two orders were made with pre grooved. On my third order they sent me non pre grooved wood and told me sorry. They delayed my deck project by over a month. What could have been finished in one week was postponed. The wood got muddy and it made the job so much harder. A lot of wood was sent severly scraped. I would never ever recommend this company. Also the company for shipping that they use, Conway, was late two times, late over an hour and never notified me. "
"I was looking at a few different companies but landed on Advantagelumber.com because of the free shipping they offered. After shopping around Advantagelumber.com came in cheaper than anyone else we found due to the free shipping. While the foot price was more than a few companies the free shipping really put them well cheaper than anyone else.
The assistance was top notch. We spoke with a few of the sales reps though the whole process all of which seemed very knowledgeable and friendly. They offered their assistance before and after the purchase.
There was a slight hold up with the freight company not being able to make it down our very narrow country road but they were able to accommodate the delivery by using a different carrier who had a smaller truck. This was the only holdup and it only added a day to the delivery time.
Overall we were extremely happy with the purchase and even happier once the product arrived and we saw how beautiful the wood was.
5 start company with 5 star products and 5 start employees. Job well done.

"After reading a few reviews online I was a little skeptical about ordering lumber site unseen. Advantagelumber.com not only helped set my mind at ease but also delivered on their promise. Great product, easy to deal with, fast turn around time (delivery 3 days after order). I do want to mention the fright company did damage a few pieces but Advantage put in the claim for us and replaced the three boards. After reading the reviews on the site and more I felt compelled to tell my side of the story. Both Johnny and Jon were a pleasure to deal with. Our deck is the center piece to our yard. Beautiful doesn't even describe how well everything turned out."
"In the past 3 months I've purchased approx. $20,000 of IPE from Advantage. In the 3rd shipment 2 18' boards were severely damaged. I contacted Advantage the same day, they advised me they'd take care of it, now a month later, they are objecting that the bill of lading didn't list the damage. This despite the receipt that states you can contact customer service is there is a problem. The expected refund/replacement would be less than 1% of the whole purchase price. If you are doing business w/Advantage realize that while they generally ship a good product you're going to have to go through all kinds of hoops and obstacles to get a dime back for a bad piece of lumber--and then you still won't get a cent.

After I placed online order to with Advantage Lumber I went through three weeks of receiving false shipping information each time I called the NC warehouse. Each time I contacted them they told me the same exact thing: the order is going out today.
After the 5th contact, I gave up and requested to cancel the order and refund my credit card. To add insult to injuries, Neil at Advantage Lumber became rude and told me that they would charge me 6% processing fee for something that they never did. So I took the matter to AMEX for assistance.
This order was for $1,100.00. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

"I have been ordering from Advantage Trim and Lumber since I found them on the internet in 2011. Since then I have received 8 shipments in total ranging in price from $900.00 to $14,000.00+. I have all of my order shipped to my shop in Manitoba, where I break down the order and take it to the customer’s address myself. If there is one thing that stands out it’s the ease of dealing with Advantage and their ability to take care of inspections, customs clearance and taxes for me without the hassle of the material sitting in bond. When I get a price it’s direct to my door which is a difficult thing to do when you’re importing and exotic hardwood to Canada. If you’re looking for a great price with an even better product this is the route to go."
"I am disappointed with Advantage Lumber with the help you recieve after ordering from them. Although most my order came intact there was missing some parts. Although I assured this will be fixed, my biggest problem is I require one small piece (16 inches) of Ipe to finish my deck. They want to charge $160 customs charge without any explanation of how this extra charge is arrived at. They were not helpful at helping me find another source to finish my project. You would think that this small piece of Ipe could be shipped with another order to get here. I don't mind paying some duty, costs & freight. So if you order from them make sure you have extra wood. You other wise might not find any help with your quest to find any small amount of wood to finish your project."
"Just received some 1x6 +Plus Ipe Decking for my deck and it is awesome. Each piece had a little extra length so i could trim to my exact size on the deck. I have done two decks with AdvantageLumber.com One in Brazilian Cumaru for my brother and One in Ipe for myself. I would have used Cumaru for my deck but my wife liked the slightly darker color of the Ipe. The Cumaru was a little easier to cut though as it is a little less dense. Service, quality, delivery time, and price where all excellent. I saved nearly $940 over the local lumber yard, and i actually got it quicker because my local guy did not stock the material. I also ordered a piece of brazilian Purpleheart lumber with my order so i could build a shelf in the bathroom for my wife....it was the widest and coolest looking grain i have seen in a piece of hardwood. I liked i could get cabinet grade lumber for my workshop and awesome hardwood decking from the same place. I was a bit of a pain, asking a hundred questions, and the sales guys where awesome about it...very knowledgable staff."
