"Ordered a front wheel, price was good, shipping time fair. Very poorly packaged, no bubble wrap or any padding inside. When I got the package from UPS the axl and it plastic protector were protruding from the side of the box (sticking out). I got pictures for those of you who would say it ain't so. If i was home when UPS drop it I would have refused it. Wheel was out of true. Took it to LBS to get repaired cheaper than sending it back. So what I saved on the wheel I put back in repairs. Live and learn always buy your wheels local. "

"Online order process was easy, payment was simple, it was clear the product might not come directly from their store, but drop-shipped. The bike rack came within the provided delivery window and was in perfect shape. Packing materials were not excessive, but appropriate.
The only odd thing was that shipping notification came not from Alfred E. Bike but from UPS and it took a moment to discern what organization was shipping me something. I am used receiving notification from the retailer, or the retailer and the shipping company.

"I ordered a set of 29er wheels from A.E. Bike using their online order system and received a confirmation email the same day. The next day I received an email from Cullen saying the rear wheel I ordered was no longer available, and if I'd like to make a substitution. I indicated I would be OK getting the 36 spoke version of the rear wheel, which he offered for $125. The original 32 spoke rear wheel I ordered was only $76.99, so this was almost of a $50 premium for a wheel that wasn't even my first choice. Cullen got back to me saying that during this process the 32 spoke front wheel became unavailable (why they wouldn't put a hold on it I don't know), and if I'd like to get the 36 spoke version of that for $115. The 32 spoke front I had originally ordered was $69.99, so another $45 premium. I certainly wasn't going to pay almost $100 more for wheels that were not my first choice, so I told Cullen to cancel my order, which he happily did. He explained some of the limitations of the way they compete in the online world and it works well for most people, and "the rest of the people generally understand when things do not work out". This could just be an isolated incident, but I decided to write this review so other people aren't surprised if it happens to them."
