"This company has clearly gone downhill. I recently ordered a frame on their web site, and when it arrived it was too large. The only dimensions I was asked to enter was the size of my artwork. The information on the site says "the size of your frame will be based on the size of your artwork." However, they decided to make it one inch bigger because I also ordered a mat. Nowhere on the site did it say that they would increase the size of the frame. The person answering the phone was snippy, talked over the top of me while I was talking, and refused to make it right. They won't have my business any more. "

"I placed an order on Monday, September 8 and received my frames on Friday, September 12. The speed of delivery was amazing! The qualifty was good -- I'm no expert on frames -- but they look good to me and satisfy my purpose. The only complaint I have is regarding the assembly. My wood frames were fully assembled, but I wish they would drill the holes in the back of the frames to accomodate the screws/clips needed to secure the art in the frame. Also, I thought I would not like the plexiglas as a substitute for glass, but I have no complaints about that. Further, I wish they had provided instructions for adding a dust seal to the back because I spent too much time trying to figure that step out. One last thing, the quote I received for the cheapest frames in a local framing store was nearly $700, whereas this purchase was about $250. The extra effort in assembly is well worth the savings, and I will never use another traditional framing store again!!!!"

"I've been buying from American Frame for about two years now. While I found the prices reasonable and the website to be excellent, I feel the speed of delivery and communication from the company is lacking.

On Monday, July 23, I called before ordering to make sure the frames I wanted were in stock. They said they were. So I placed the order that evening. I received a call that Friday and they said the frames I ordered were out of stock. WTF?

I was busy so I had to call them the following Monday to update the order with a different frame style to which the person told me the Mahogany was in stock now. So, I waited until Wednesday for a tracking number. I called that day and they said they didn't have one yet, but the order was being processed. So, I waited the rest of the week for the order to be processed. Still, I received no tracking number.

I called, today, Monday, Aug. 6, two weeks after placing the order. And again they tell me the Mahogany is out of stock after telling me a week ago (and the previous week) that it was in stock.

Today they claim they'll use a different frame and ship it tomorrow. We'll see won't we?

Time is money folks, I haven't the time to spend it with this company. They seem to be unable to keep up with their customers.

Follow up: The trade off with American Frame is certainly the delivery time. However, they are really good about letting you know the cost of your framing project up front. Another praise is they pack their frames very well. I have used another vendor since the incident above and although they are fast, the other vendor is more than twice the price and the don't pack the frames nearly as well. Lesson is... if you have time, you can save money with American Frame. But if you are on a deadline, you might have to use another vendor."

"Purchased 6 custom cut photo mats. Mats were sized as directed and shipped securely and promptly (received within 5 business days of ordering them online). Reasonable price for custom size and no large quantities required, either. Highly recommended."

"After several contacts to Customer Service about the quality (or lack thereof) of the frames we've been recieving; I upacked today's shipment and found one of the three frames with corner scratches!

"Based on a recommendation from someone at dpreview.com, I placed an order for 3 custom frames for pictures I have taken.

Initially I found the selection of framing material to be good but it was not apparent how to order. After I figured that out, I proceeded to place an order for 3 different frames for 3 different prints.

The user interface allowed me to specify a frame type and color, then provide an image (through upload or pointing to a website; I used the latter). Next I was able to select matte style, color and width. The website showed me a preview of what my image looked like framed.

Finally I selected the glass and backing.

The selection seems excellent (though I have not compared to other sites). The design aspect of the site is excellent. The price seems very reasonable (compared to what I'd expect to pay going to a local store)."
