"I ordered a NAD CD player from the webpage and it arrived in just three days. Everything was exactly as advertised so I didn't need to contact the merchant. "
"Caveat Emptor when dealing with these folks. Rudeness and deception are their modus operandi.
I made two purchases: a Pamamax 5300 Surge Protector and a Marantz SR9600 AVR.
The Panamax went smoothly, except they charged shipping from Florida-Arizona despite the fact that it was drop shipped form 4 miles away for about $15.00 total. The Marantz did not go well, and they were rude, abusive, and deceptive.
1. Warrantyand deception: Marantz does not warranty unless you purchase from an authorized dealer, which American Theater is not. When I inquired, they told me that to get around Marantz’s pricing restrictions they sell on-line under the American Theater name but actually invoice and ship all goods from their non-on line authorized retail dealer. They do not do this, and they refuse to divulge the name of this phantom dealer.
2. More Deception: before ordering, they told me they had the item in stock and I would have it in 5 business days. Delivery time was crucial as I had installation timing issues. After ordering, they told me it was out of stock, and they would have more “next Friday”. I called the next Friday – I was told they weren’t in yet but they expected them “next Friday”. I asked if they could verify that Marantz had even shipped the item and was told they could not [!!!] which anyone knows is not true.
3. Rudeness: When it was clear that they would not tell me when I would receive the AVR, I told them I wanted to cancel the order. The clerk [Kathy] immediately hung up on me. As they had already charged $2780 to my credit card, I called back and suggested we had been cut off. Her reply”, “no, you said you wanted to cancel. And we have nothing else to discuss. My boss thinks you must be on medication”. I asked when I would receive my refund and was told “when we feel like it”. Also, when I asked Kevin, the owner, for the name of their authorized dealer, I got a very rude reply, which I won’t repeat here.
4. In order to assure my refund, I had to cancel my CC and report them as a potentially fraudulent transaction – this is the procedure Master Card forced me to follow when I called them to have the transaction reversed.

"Purchased a pair of Definitive Technology speakers (BP7000SC) arrived in perfect condition. I am very satisfed and will do business again!! AAAA+++"
"I ordered a def tech sub (reference) from these folks on the 27th of Feb they said the order was placed the 28th (card was charged on the 28th) I waited till that Friday March 2nd to email them they then said it would be in the 5th of march. I waited till the 7th to email them because I hadn't heard anything.
They now started back tracking saying it would be in the 10th. Now I'm getting very nervous and called, the guys name is Kevin MCEvoy the order was placed with Cathy. Kevin emailed me back saying they lost their account with def tech for mail order sales. (no wonder)
So thats when Mr MCAboy started theatening me calling me names and even threatened to shoot me because he knows where I live ! This is a BAD APPLE people and my card still hasn't been credited. I'm also filing a complaint with consumer affairs and BBB.
They have several sites Krazy Kat Electronics, American Home theater and American theater.
BEWARE......anyone that threatens a concerned customer with bodily harm over a subwoofer has issues.
I have all pertinent emails to verify this story as far as ship dates and CC charges and verify some of what was said the rest was on the phone.
Definative Technology will also get the emails to show these guys are badnews and were scamming them to resell mailorder."
"Ordered a marantz dv9500 was told would ship in two business days. Two weeks later no marantz just a charge on my card.
Called up to cancel was told I would be charged a 15% re-stocking fee.
It took almost two months of constant phone calls and a threat of legal action to finally get my credit.
Stay away"
"I made a receiver purchase from this company. However, after a few days, the receiver didn't ship. I then called to cancel the order and was dinged with a 10% restocking fee - even though their Web site has no mention for such fees when cancelling an order.
Now, here's where the fun begins. As of July 1st - a whole month after my charge card was charged, I still haven't received my credit.
Stay far away from this company. Plus, they are not authorized resellers for the gear they sell and the manufacturer's warranties will not be honored with most purchases. There's plenty of other good and reputable vendors out there to have to put up with these hassles."
