"Really bright bike lights are silly money here in the UK, and the Cateye thing I use just doesnt cut it. Plucked up the courage to buy a 1300 lumen light fro BestOfferBuy (code:E57436), for £50-59 inc. shipping. It arrived in a couple of weeks, and on high-beam is bright enough to ride fast off-road. Honestly, it's funny. By wobbling the handlebars I can make oncoming cars dip their main beam, and coming behind other cyclists I don't need to say anything. They get scared and move out the way.
A few minuses: the flash mode is at the wrong frequency - close to epilepsy, so unusable. The mounting can move when riding hard on rough ground - wrap some insulation tape around the bars, and the rubber shim of the mounting grips - sorted. And inexplicably the mains cable supplied doesnt fit the charger block. Just use a standard figure of eight cable as found on mains stereos.
