Looked on amazon, a lady told her whole experience with the same thing. She figured it out but didn't say how—so you can release the clips by putting any narrow flat metal thing under those tabs that you had hoped you could lift with your thumbs. Whatever you can do to lift those tabs will release the clips.
Now put it flap side in the back, like a person who reads all things first would've done. The rest is so fast'n easy.
