"Beware- All that I ask is that if you have been scammed by this company do your civic duty like I did. Waste as much of their time as yor can. More importantly submit a complaint to http://www.newyork.bbb.org
Thank you. Order from them if you want all I request is complain if it fails to work out ( I DID ). PS You feel better when you do."
"Run Away! Research ratings at multiple sites and you will find mostly negatives. I ordered a Olympus C730 at a too good to be true price, called to verify it was in stock, ordered, and then received an email to 'verbally verify' the order. After reading other reviews I discovered that this was 'the call' to begin the high pressure scam, my camera was suddenly on back order too! I promptly cancelled. We you call, they placed me into voice mail after voice mail. Apparently the main scammers are very busy. Why do people love NY so much? These are the people that make people worry about online purchases. They are why you are reading this. Run away."
"stay away from this company!
I placed an order and called to verified order, they scream at me over the phone and trated me so bad. I then called back 6 days later to ask about my order and they said that they where going to ship it in 10 days!
"
"Stay away from this company. Fortunately, I checked resellerratings after I placed my order (well, next time I will do it BEFORE) and called them immediately. Item was 'out of stock' so I promptly cancelled the order."
"Bait and Switch scam. Loball price, but if you don't buy the overpriced accessories, you never receive your order."
"DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!! These guys had the lowest price on the Nikon 5700. Their website showed that the item was in stock--after buying it I found out that it would be 2-4 weeks. They pressured me to buy lenses and battery packs at more than double the normal price. They added an extra $10 to my shipping without notifying me two days after I had ordered it over the web, explaining that they had to pay "the insurance company". This was an absurd buying experience--I cancelled my order!"
"Was very disapoointed with these folks. Made an order. Was told the camcorder would ship in 1-2 weeks. No updates on their website other than that my order was received. I e-mailed after more that 2 weeks and was told there still was no definite ship date. Needed the camera so I cancelled my order. Only positives were there was no high pressure pitch for accessories and they promptly cancelled my order when asked. Also, notice their extended warranties are several time more expensive than teh big box retailers. Can't recommend doing business with them."
"This company is totally unresponsive. Delivery dates are not posted when an order is made. After the order was placed, a 7 to 10 day delivery window was announced. I logged on to their site to check my order status and the status is order placed. I knew that! After 8 Days I started calling the number listed and put on hold and then dumped to a voice messangering center. Messages were never returned. Finally on the 10th day I got hold of a real person who told me the camera is not in stock and won't be for several weeks. An overall unprofessional organization. Do not do business with them. They lie."
"Horrible! I ordered on July 5 a Sony digital camera Cybershot S85, that was supposed to be in stock. After several follow up phone calls to customer service with a will ship in 10 days (liar) reply from customer service, I finally cancelled after waiting 7 weeks. Rude and hideous experience, still says available when the camera apparently is not. I should have known that the $457 price tag was too good to be true. I'm very disappointed because a friend ordered this camera from Cameratopia and had good luck."
"I placed an order with this company for the new Nikon D-100; after assuring me that it was a U.S. model, with full warranty, that it was in stock, and that it would ship the next day for overnight delivery, they took all of my credit card information and gave me an order number. It turns out that CAMERATOPIA is just ANOTHER N.Y. RIPOFF ARTIST. They call me two days later to inform me that because of a "computer glitch" it turned out that the item was not in stock. However, on that day they had the item listed as in stock, which I verified by telephone with them, but at a price $439 higher. I also surmize that the camera suddenly became out of stock when I turned down their offer for an extended warranty for only $795 more (notwithstanding that a genuine U.S. Nikon would come with a manufacture's warranty of one year.
Beware dealing with this company. It is all hot air and mirrors."
"
A total waste of time, dealing with this non-business type of individuals. I could not find very many customer reports on this company, prior to my order, but the reports I did find rated the company "inferior". Boy, I wished I would have listened.
I ordered a Sony F707 on April 28, 2002. Before I actually ordered the camera they confirmed it was "in stock". Within a few minutes of ordering the camera (and telling them I did not want any extras or options) they said they had just checked their supply and that they were "temporarily out of stock". They promised that they would receive additional units within "7 to 12 days" and that they would ship immediately following receipt. They never again contacted me. Every week or so I would check my order status on their web page and it would continue to show "backorder" even tho they were showing the Sony F707 "in stock" on the web page.
Finally, in disgust, on June 29 (two months after placing the order) I cancelled it. Never again will I contact that company & I would suggest you do likewise."
"Just another NYC rip-off merchant. Ordered camera accessory listed as "in stock"; 2 days later I get e-mail my order won't be processed for 10 days because they'll be closed for holiday. I reply to their e-mail telling them to cancel my order since I had specified that it be cancelled if it could not be shipped within 48 hours. The next day I was notified they had shipped it; I replied with e-mail that shipment would be refused & it was. When I got my credit card bill they had billed me but not credited me for return. I e-mailed them & thet replied they would credit my charge card after deducting approximately 30% for restocking & shipping. I protested by e-mail. They never credited my credit card for any amount so I disputed the charge with my bank & they removed it.
Dealing with this SHYSTER is not worth saving a few pennies. In this case I bought the item online, from a California retailer, who shipped it the same day."
"I was looking to by a Nikon coolpix 995. I searched all the pricing sites and found prices from the upper $300's to the $800's. I resesrched each vender. I only found one entry for these guys.
Well I had read about other vendors saying an item was on backorder if you did not buy other items with your purchase.
I placed an order and got an e-mail that they they need verbal confermation of the order. So I called and he asked me if I had talked to someone already, I told him no. He asked if I wanted anything else. I told him no and then he told me that the Item was on backorder and asked if I wanted to wait 2 to 3 weeks. I told him no and canceled my order.
If you just want one thing don't waste your time with cameratopia."
"WARNING: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! I placed an order for a Sony F707 a month ago (after being told on the phone that it was in stock). I called back a week later and was told it was on back order and would not be shipped until April 21 (a Sunday). When I call, first I ask if it's in stock and they say "yes" then when I ask if my order has been shipped, they will ask if I ordered accessories and when I say no they tell me it is on "back order" . If you don't buy extras you won't get the camera. "
