"Due to extenuating circumstances this experience can’t be rated higher than four stars.
To explain, all purchased items were as advertised and included in a single shipment. However, the 10” DMT lapping plate was relatively unrestrained and so heavy that expected and unavoidable jostling during small parcel environment transit caused the lapping plate to impact against the beautiful Richmond Laser Aogami Super 240mm Maple Gyuto which both bent and twisted the blade.
Surprisingly enough given the core steel hardness, I was able to rectify the blade straightness, twist, and tip bend issues via careful, deliberate manipulation on a hard, flat surface.
Nonetheless the owner, Mark Richmond offered to fix the issues, replace it, or refund the purchase in full (including return shipping).
The knife as I said is beautiful and once sufficiently sharpened cuts like a dream.
If all purchased items were sufficiently cushioned and/or tethered together for unified movement during transit to properly protect all the items the experience would definitely have been 5 stars.
