" My wife has extreme fond memories of growing up in a very small river town in Arkansas from the Fifties. She has told stories of growing up in this town to our daughters, as though its right out of Mayberry. There was a sheriff and deputy, plenty of family & friends, and a whole host of characters & adventures to round out her stories.
Over the years we revisited the old town, which is a shell of itself with many buildings long gone. During these visits, I would take pictures of the different sites while she told her stories.
There was the old School House (no longer used as a school) where she went to school. The County Court House where we received our marriage license some 40+ years ago. The grocery store (no longer open) where a nickel would buy a Coke. There was an Opera House, a Museum, and a Railway express agency building, all closed, remnants of themselves. There were various churches, a cemetery on a hill with historical significance, where her great grandfather, a lawman who was shot, was laid to rest. There were historical markers scattered here and there, a barber shop, and many homes that she knew the folks that once occupied them, all with their stories.
Because this was an old Mississippi river port town in the late 1800, with a levee, stretching from New Orleans to St. Louis that still runs along with what is left of the city front, that used to service the riverboat trade, there were many references to riverboats with streets named after them. There are also streets named after prominent citizens of that era as well.
With that said, having these photos in a shoe box or on our computer, just to reminisce over, made no sense! So, my youngest daughter and I put together a collection of what I had taken over the years in an old black and white with a sepia tone style.
I placed the online order on a Monday and in approximately 4 days, 3 days before Christmas, Easy Canvas Print made & delivered them exactly as how I had hoped they would be. When I gave the 12 canvas prints of my wifes home town to her for Christmas, it literally brought her to tears, joyous tears!
