Expedia mis-quotes room rates

"Expedia mis-advertised and so under-charged for the hotel stay. The hotel rejected the Expedia transaction upon my arrival, and so I had to re-register, re-book, and re-pay, again, out of my own pocket, for the hotel stay, on the spot. Then, in contacting Expedia for a refund/credit for the un-used funds that I paid them, they drug their feet, passed the buck, and began to ignore this transaction as if to steal my money? NO. I had to persistently pursue this to it's proper conclusion, wasting my precious time and energy, just to get them to admit their mistake and issue me a refund. Or, in this case, just issue me a refund, lying that they made no mistake. Their quote, "We didn't made a mistake regarding on your reservation cause you already paid it and it is confirm". No, the hotel was never contacted ahead about this Expedia transaction, nor did the hotel confirm it, since they never received it from Expedia, at all. Oh, and we have to deal with Expedia, not through any American employee from here in the USA, no, we have to deal with a bunch of foreigners from Egypt! (just read that quote, again). I will NOT use Expedia ever again!!"

Scam Company

"This company is horrible and a scam. I booked 3 rooms on the 24th of September 2022. I canceled 1 room the same day, ever since then I've been trying to get refunded as they promised to do so and nothing. Do not use these guys, i have to involve my lawyers on expedia to apply my refund but they will be paying much more"

Quite surprised to see many bad reviews

"Quite surprised to see many bad reviews. I use Expedia since more than 5 years to buy flights or packages and never had bad issues. I can only reccomend Expedia from my whole experience, but respect for the other people's opinion whatever it be."

Expedia ****

" Booked a trip to London in November 2020 and had to cancel due to Covid but I was assured by Expedia customer service that I would get flight credits but I had a year to use them. They don’t tell you that it’s a year from the original purchase date so I only had 4 months to use them. Now came the worst part… trying to book a trip using those flight credit’s! I spent literally hours on the phone over three days trying get my trip booked. Expedia would tell me to call American Airlines and they would tell me to call Expedia. Expedia wanted to charge another $4000 for just the flights on top of my $3200 flight credit. In the end It was cheaper to rebook the entire trip not using the credits which I did. But that $3200 is just gone and Expedia couldn’t care less. This trip will be the last time I will ever use them and I will trash talk them to anyone that will listen!"

I have never been so disappointed!

"I booked a hotel that has rooms inside and outside the hotel. The Expedia agent confirmed I was receiving the room inside the hotel. Once I got to the hotel, that was not the case, and I had to pay an additional $400.00 to have the room I thought I was getting (inside the hotel).
Expedia never sent me a confirmation. Later I found out they had the wrong address.
Needless to say, Expedia said there was no error on their side.
I will never use Expedia again! Not impressed!

Expedia Deserves NO STARS

"We used Expedia to book a room at a hotel with trip protection. We had an issue where we had to cancel our plans well enough in advance but Expedia made it impossible to reach someone that could help. We called, we sent emails, and we followed Expedia's customer service requests. They asked us to contact the hotel, we did, and the hotel told us to contact Expedia because they were the only ones that could help us because they have our money. Expedia purposefully creates a catch 22 so they don't have to refund your money for services they never provided. I will never use Expedia and highly advise others to never use them too."

bad service with a cost

"I book a flight to Athens Greece months in advance. Paid extra money to get seat selection through the Airline which amounted to an additional $700.00. Expedia Cancelled the flight without my consent 2 weeks before travel date. I had to go to American Airlines Direct to book the exact same flight on the exact same planes. Cost me an additional $1700.00 plus American Airlines said it would not give me back the $700.00 seat selection cost from the original reservation because Expedia Cancelled.... Expedia just said sorry ….nothing we can do"

Terrible Resolution

"My family went to check in to our hotel to find out the water park attached to our hotel was permanently closed the day prior to our stay. Expedia told us we could cancel and get refunded only if hotel cleared the refund. Expedia sent an email asking for the staff members name and title, which I immediately emailed back to Expedia. Expedia then decided not to call the hotel for 4 weeks to verify the refund and staff member. Then they tell me the hotel can not be reached, no refund. Hotel was demolished 3 weeks ago. Expedia says nothing they can do.

Nearly stranded due to Expedia's error and terrible customer service

"There are two issues I want to report about Expedia:

1. A hotel booking confirmed on Expedia's end with constant reminders to me through my email about the trip, did not actually go through to the hotel. The hotel was able to book me another room, but the room we booked was why we were at that hotel in the first place.

2. Expedia's website misleads customers into thinking you can email them to report an incident, but the customer support pages are an endless loop with an email never listed. I can only assume, due to Expedia's size, that this is to de-incentive customers to escalate complaints to them by forcing you to call them (which is then its own gauntlet of being on hold).

Issue 1 Expanded:

I booked a stay at the Portland Harbor Hotel for April 10th-11th .

The day before my trip I messaged the hotel through Expedia to ask about checking in earlier, if possible. The next day I was messaged back asking for a last name for the reservation. That seemed odd, since I was messaging them through my booking on Expedia. I then received a call when I was already in Portland that there was no reservation under my name, and that something happened on Expedia's site with my booking not going through.

The hotel offered me another suite, but it did not have the amenities that had me book with this hotel in the first place. It was incredibly disconcerting to get a voicemail while already in Portland saying my room was never booked. I had been receiving messages from Expedia reminding me of my upcoming trip for weeks. And even in the relief of the hotel offering me another room (and a discount), it defeated the purpose of having chosen this hotel to not have the room I booked.

The hotel is blaming Expedia, and I can't verify who fault it is because Expedia chooses to not actually list their email when they say they can be contacted that way. I now have to give Expedia more of my time and energy, because they refuse to actually provide a service. It's nonsensical that Expedia markets itself as being an easier way to book travel, when you can't even trust your reservation will go through and then have to go through the ringer just to have the matter dealt with. There is no pointing in using the site.

The hotel actually said to me "It's good you messaged us about checking in earlier." I then had to think to myself, "Wow, we may have been stranded in Portland Maine with no where to stay, or after having paid for a room, paid for whatever was available somewhere else."

This was a short weekend trip for my partner's birthday, after a year of not traveling. We thought it would be nice to ease ourselves into travel through a trip to Portland. Instead, our short time was taken up sorting out whether we even had a place to stay. And now, even after the trip, I am dealing with the stress of Expedia's either incompetent or duplicitous website not providing the email it is supposed to have.

Worst customer service

"Expedia customer service is really disappointing. I booked a round trip flight for my parents visiting USA from India and back. They took the flight from India to USA. However, for the return journey, it was a three leg flight (rdu-jfk-del-ccu). The first leg which was supposed to be operated by Delta was canceled by the airline itself. As expedia couldn’t provide us any suitable connection to jfk, we had to cancel the entire return flight. They are refunding us only the base fare and deducting more than half the fare(taxes+cancellation fees).While trying to make a fresh booking from IAD, they are also charging the difference amount in fare+ rebooking charges per person. So basically, we are losing a huge amount of money now. Neither they are successful in providing a suitable connection to jfk, nor they are agreeing to refund our money. I would never again do business with expedia. Going with Kayak or booking directly from the airline website would be a much better idea."

If I could give no stars I would.

"Expedia is the worst company to ever work with. Their customer service is inept and rude. They placed my husband’s ticket under my name, therefore we could not fly as scheduled. When we contacted them to fix this, they had us on the phone for five hours to get their mistake resolved...having us miss our initial flight. Upon our return flight home, they had my husband and I flying out of two different airports that were on the opposite sides of the state. When asked if they could refund our tickets to get to fly together the rep stated that it was “unacceptable”. Expedia’s service is unacceptable. Do not ever use them. "

Skip Expedia!

"Expedia will tell you anything to get your booking. If there is an issue they will be no where to be found. They work for the insurance companies, airlines and hotels. I have been so lucky that I have not been stranded out of the country because they would not be available!!!"

Not Trustworty

"Prices listed online may not be what you are actually charged. This is evidently so common that it is listed as a pre-populated complaint in their customer service survey.

I've had this happen to me. I spent 5 (!) hours on the phone speaking to no fewer than 8 different people in several departments before I finally gave up when they "accidentally" hung up on me during one of the numerous holds I had to endure.

This site is so bad that they PAY for positive reviews on a site called feefo. Check it out. Get it FEEFOr positive reviews.

Do yourself a favor do your research on sites like Expedia but ONLY book directly with Hotel, Car, and Airline company's directly. You'll be glad you did

Scam... bait and Switch

"Worst company for booking... now I have a ticket with LEVEL 1 Airline to come home from France, when I booked British Airways .... Your supervisor from Oklahoma has been yelling at me for 30 minutes and your OFFLINE ticketing or Glass Box is not responding to my request to change the ticket to an airline that is not going out of business! SCAM, FALSE ADVERTISING. I am out $3,700+ because of Expedia mistake"
