"My purchase of an acoustic bass via GearTree completely revitalized my musicianship by providing me with the opportunity to practice whenever and wherever I want. I no longer have to worry about messing with cables, amps, pedals and batteries when I simply just want to play a few licks before going out, hitting the hay or heading to work. By shipping my Ibanez acoustic in a timely manner and a double-padded box, GearTree definitely came through and received another completely satisfied customer. I will make a point of buying from them again and telling all of my friends about the benefits."
"Received the guitar I purchased quickly (standard shipping). It came well packaged and safe. Very pleased with the product, the cost and delivery time! "
"Awesome deal, amazing product & fast shipping..
Have used these guys a few times now, & they do not disappoint - phenomenal service."
"Out of two orders of three MXL mics the R144 arrived damaged. Their packing was substandard with no packing around five sides of the mic boxes. The MXL R144 mic had a bent element which MXL corporate customer service was able to verify via photos I sent. MXL agreed and stated: "Oh OK I see. Yes it shouldn't do that. We can exchange it for you if that is the case. Ask gear tree for an exchange instead and let me know if they will or will not do that for you "
Geartree sent a return tag and after three days they state:
"We've received your microphone back and our tech has had the chance to test it in his studio. He did a few recordings with the microphone and could not identify any apparent issue with the sound. Our tech has informed us that he does have a recording available if you wish to hear it. We do have a replacement on hold for you however, in instances where items test fine, we typically request reshipment to be paid by the buyer. In this scenario the reshipment fee would be $5.81. We are happy to send another unit if you wish. If not, we can cancel the transaction minus the cost of the pop filter. If you wish for an audio clip or to speak with our tech, please let us know." So all the folks and artists in the studio could hear the difference. MXL says there will be difference due to out of phase in the figure 8 pattern. Another MXL dealer even commented that the impact needed to bend the ribbon frame over would have effected the delicate ribbon inside.
No mention of the bent element by Geartree. I called their customer service manager, Rachael, and she proved to be some what uncooperative. Despite an email that I had from MXL she said they had to verify the claim of the bent ribbon frame. They never did. I told her all they have to do is hold the mic up to the light and they will see the bent element. I even told her that MXL and other reviewers said that the mic will have a different response from front and back due to out of phase. But the main issue was the bent ribbon element. Nope ... uncooperative. They have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee that isn't worth the paper its printed on. They do not honor it. Avoid at all costs! They are not customer-oriented based on my experience. My contact at MXL had to intercede to resolve this with Geartree. The replacement mic is coming from MXL directly and NOT from Geartree. Will not be buying from Geartree anymore nor will any of our friends and clients.
Update: The BBB got a response from Geartree ... unfortunately the information that Geartree provided was not true.
CASE ID: 37059553 On August 17, 2015, you provided the following information: (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Geartree response is not true. The issue was with sound AND a bent ribbon frame assembly caused by USPS impact due to inadequate packing. Geartree refused to send a new replacement so I had to get manufacturer involved. I was promised a NEW replacement by Geartree. Instead I was sent a repaired B stock unit. They offered another unit but at my cost for shipping. I escalated to manufacturer's management and they agreed to ship out a NEW unit. Later they claimed it was out of stock and had Geartree send a new replacement. What I received was an open box mic that was missing its desiccant. I closed out the Paypal claim as the manufacturer was advised and would send dessicant.

I was set to order an MXL CR89 from them but they falsely posted a $75 rebate that expired April 30, 2015. I made several attempts to get them to correct their Ebay listing but they insisted "MXL is currently offering this rebate for items purchased until May 31st. They had a previous rebate offer similar going before that." Not true so I contacted MXL over the deception by Geartree.
So I wrote to them again "The website shown on the form is not valid .... mxlmics acbrewards brings up a business profile. And the rebates for the CR89 were for April only. Deadline for mailing in the rebates is May 31. Do you agree?"
MXL intervened and Geartree finally agreed: "We checked with our purchase department and they confirmed our listing team was incorrect on the rebate details and they'll be updating all the listings to reflect this. We are able to take the unit back if it will not let you proceed with the rebate offer. Please let us know and we'll make arrangements. "

Here's strike three ... same MXL CR89 .... their site says $249 after $100 instant rebate. When I call in the sales girl says I will have to pay the full $349 and then mail in the rebate. I politely hung up and ordered on line ... $249 out the door ... no mail in rebate. "
"...COMPLETE SCAM OF A COMPANY. ORDERED A $300 YAMAHA PRACTICE AMP, BUNDLED WITH FREE HEADPHONES AND AN INSTRUMENT CABLE. RECEIVED A LESSER MODEL ($200 VALUE) AND NONE OF THE BUNDLED ITEMS WERE SHIPPED. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, EITHER AS A STAND ALONE RETAILER OR AS A 3RD PARTY SUPPLIER FOR AMAZON. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO AMAZON ORDERS AND STEER CLEAR IF THE NAME GEARTREE IS ANYWHERE WHEN ORDERING AN ITEM."
"Not sure why some of the people have had bad experiences with Gear Tree, as mine have always been positive. I have ordered from them several times in the past through Amazon Marketplace, eBay, and directly from their website. Communication and service levels have consistently been first-rate, coupled with good packing and fast delivery.
Every item I have ordered from Gear Tree has been brand-new and factory-sealed; I did previously receive a new effect pedal that had blemishes from the manufacturer, but Gear Tree was quick to respond with a perfect replacement at no extra cost to me. Excellent source for guitar accessories! "
"Im posting review here basically because eBay doesn't give users the ability to give an in depth review of their experience. This is the 2nd time in the past few months i have had a bad experience with this company. The first order was for a set of Planet Waves auto trim tuning machines which were listed by GearTree on eBay as being brand new in the in the box. They were selling the tuning machines for about 20% less than any other online retailer. I saw that they had about a 99% positive feedback rating and decided to go ahead and order a set. When i received them I opened the package and saw that the box was discolored and that the seal along the edge had been broken. One of the tuning machines turned very roughly and another had a broken thumbscrew. I attempted to resolve the issue by contacting them though eBay but kept receiving replies from someone insisting that the item i was sent was brand new from the manufacturer. I have purchased probably 20 or more sets of these tuning machines from other retailers such as Music123, MusiciansFriend, GuitarCenter and other online retailers and have NEVER received anything on par with what GearTree sent me. I was able to received a partial refund only after calling their customer service and explaining to them my horrid experience...oh yeah and i had to go through Planet Waves to get replacement parts and GearTree would only give a full refund if i paid to ship the item back to them. I recently ordered from them again - a $30 set of Ahead Drumsticks which they were advertised as being brand new in the original packaging and slightly less than any of the other online sellers. I paid immediately and was expecting for the item to be shipped out within 48 hours of payment. After nearly a week of seeing that the item wasn't marked as shipped i contacted customer service with my concerns. I received somewhat of a snide reply telling me that my payment didn't clear in their system until 4 days after i paid. Im guessing they're implying their own system, not eBay or PayPal's to which the 48 hour shipping policy refers to. Also within the reply was a tracking number for the set of sticks that they still to this day have not marked as shipped. When I received the package i found two loose stick rolling around in a padded USPS envelope with 2 pieces of paper from the Ahead packaging. So basically they shipped me something that by definition was supposed to be new yet not in the original retail packaging. I once again contacted their customer service where they tried to tell me that they had discard the original packaging because it wouldn't fit in the envelope. Im sorry, but I find that idea to be very much so unprofessional, that's your duty to ship merchandise as it would come from any other retail location, and frankly I think that is a BS story, I've also purchased several sets of these sticks before and find it hard to believe they couldn't fit the original box within the envelope. If i were giving these to someone as a gift they might find it to be a little strange i'm giving them 2 loose sticks when's supposed to come in a transparent Ahead casing. Were the sticks damaged in any way? No, but the manner in which they advertise items, sell them and provide customer service in rather inexcusable. My personal belief from reading other people's bad experiences in other reviews is that GearTree is selling items that have been returned, refurbish or stock that has been left stagnant in warehouses for other merchants."
"Due to the few reviews of GearTree, I was a little apprehensive about ordering, but the price was just too good to pass up.
I ordered a guitar in one of their packages that included a hard case and a guitar stand. I also had a 10% off coupon they sent to my email. Even without the coupon the price was outstanding, so with the coupon I just couldn't pass it up.
I ordered the item on the 19th and anxiously waited for shipping information. The weekend passed and my order's status still showed as "not yet shipped". I decided I would wait a maximum of 1 full week before contacting them. To my surprise it showed up on the 25th. Considering this is from Michigan to California, the item must have shipped pretty quickly, but it's still showing as "not yet shipped".
So, though they lose points for the lack of shipping info and updates (nicking them in customer service), they get high marks for the price, the speed of delivery, and the safe arrival of my item."
"This was my third order from GearTree. As in the past with the two previous purchases, I found I was most pleased with every aspect of the purchase. They are accessible by phone, they are responsive, their prices are competitive, and they ship like lightening! The access by phone is particularly helpful because they are honest and will tell you up-front if an item is out of stock. I had to use customer service on my second order due to a problem, but they had it fixed in 2 days. I can't say enough good about this seller. They have become one of the sellers who are in my Explorer Favorites and I always seek the items I am purchasing from them first. Great service seems to be waning these days, but not at GearTree. And the unbelievablly fast shipping is the icing on the cake. I highly recommend your doing business with this seller--you will not be disappointed."
"Ordered a bass case and strings for my son and received it in 2 days! I expected that it would take longer. I am a repeat customer and originally purchased the Ibanez bass from them as that transaction was smooth as well. Recommended."
"Only real problem encountered was with customer service and shipping. I sent 3 e-mails concerning shipping and have yet to receive an answer or even a confirmation that I had sent an e-mail. I ordered an amp for an electric guitar as a Christmas present with a different shipping address than billing address so my 16 year old son would not see it before Christmas morning. They shipped it to the billing address in the original box with "Guitar Amp" in 3 inch letters. So much for the Cheristmas morning surprise. As I stated, still no return e-mail even confirming receipt of any correspondence at all."
"Well, I have nothing but sincere praise for the company, especially the salesperson's attitude. They have been friendly, bent over backwards to be helpful. I ordered my guitar with case on Monday of this week and it came exactly as promised today on Friday. They even paid for the shipping at no cost to me. I was leary about ordering from this company because some others had given them a bad rap. But for me, they rate five star anyday in my books. They made the transaction quick and easy to order. This company is run by people who know their business. They are not just salespersons, they are also musicians which helps a lot when you want some technical advice. They always answered any question I proposed to them, and never seemed to much in a hurry to get me off the telephone. Every call to them was pleasant, no matter who answered the phone. The product they delivered was exactly as advertised and without flaw. They deserve a huge pat on the back!"
