"GearTree deserves credit for the services they provided me. I purchased a Koch Pedaltone II from them in late November. GearTree was the only distributor of this relatively rare device that I could find in the United States (there are a few on Reverb.com every now and then, but whether new or used, they always are much, much more expensive that what GearTree charges). Moreover, GearTree charges a bit less than the price charged by the main distributor in Europe (about ~$20 less when converting between USD and Euros).
Issues with manufacturer of the Pedaltone II cropped up - they did not have any to ship to distributors. I was contacted within hours of this by GearTree. The issue with the manufacturer is corroborated by the distributor in Europe, Bax-Shop, which has a feature on their websites (for the UK and the Netherlands, the latter being the country where the manufacturer, Koch, is based) that estimates product availability. The product availability as estimated by Bax-Shop actually turned out to be sketchy (it's probably an automated process), but GearTree persistently provided me updates that, in the end, accurately informed me of the situation.
Bax-Shop's estimate varied from ~15 days to ~2 days over the course of December and January, with an average estimate of ~7 days. Instead of just giving estimates (which is fine for an automated system of course), GearTree actually typed-up messages to me and shared their experiences with the manufacturer. I was accurately apprised of the situation. Finally, in what had become a daily routine, I searched for Bax-Shop in Google a few weeks back and looked up the Pedaltone II - it was finally available. I didn't even bother to check my email, but rather anxiously called GearTree, who immediately informed me that my package was being submitted to UPS. It arrived the next day - GearTree rushed the package for no charge to me because of the delay (something they definitely did not have to do, particularly since it was so clear that they were not responsible for the delays).
The Pedaltone II arrived in reinforced package with no damage. However, there was no power supply inside the box supplied by the manufacturer. I emailed GearTree and Koch. GearTree responded in literally ten minutes! Koch took a day or so, ultimately asking me to contact GearTree (despite having mentioned in my initial email that I just contacted GearTree). In any case, GearTree quickly sorted out the issue, and kept me informed of the situation. They then forwarded the tracking number for the power supply just minutes after they received it.
Overall, GearTree provided personalized service that was extraordinarily timely. They performed their tasks of mediation and product shipping to the highest-standard. They even expediting the shipping - maybe if I hadn't known what was 'going on' behind the scenes, I would have 'expected' that, but I did know what was going on (thanks to persistent engagement on the part of GearTree), and I don't feel that they were responsible. Still, it was really nice getting the Pedaltone II the very next day! In addition to my purchase, GearTree has also provided answers and opinions to many other questions I have presented them with (often within emails concerning the Pedaltone II) that have helped me integrate my various pieces of music equipment.
My case serves as a sort of 'test-case' that potential customers need to know about. GearTree has provided exemplary service throughout the entirety of an order that spanned three months. GearTree tops any list of recommendations that I would give to any potential customer. "
