Two Great Experiences

"I've ordered from GearTree twice in the past year, and both times everything has gone as smoothly as possible. The first was an open box Jaguar guitar that I felt was a great deal, it shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition. The second was a volume pedal with a few extra goodies (chamois and some cables) for the same price other places had it listed for the pedal alone. I'd gladly do business with them again."

Excessive/Unfair Restocking Fees

"I bought this on Amazon. The item arrived on-time as expected. The external box was wet and damaged. I opened the box of the unit to inspect it, plugged it in to make sure it would power on, and then put the unit aside. There were no signs of damage on the unit at the time I received it, but I decided not to keep it. A return was approved and I returned the unit promptly w/in the 30 days required by Amazon. The unit was in perfect/like new condition when it was sent back. I paid the return shipping. I have no reason to lie.

GearTree charged me a restocking fee of more than 10%. The money isn't that important... it's the principle that matters. Their customer service department was not truthful about the return condition and honestly they were rude. In the most uncaring way possible they said the unit was used and could not be resold as new.

I checked their Amazon listing for a few days after the return was received and this seller did not have any units available for sale. After the partial refund was issued/received I noticed a “New” unit was listed by this seller on Amazon (no used units). I don't know 100% for sure if the unit was the same as the one I sent back, the seller said it was not, but it does seem suspect.

Reading reviews about this seller you will see many people saying the same thing. Either being sent a used item as new, or falsely saying the unit showed signs of wear if returned and then charged an excessive restocking fee. Approx. 10% of their reviews on Amazon are negative. The negatives report excessive restocking fees, new or b class items sold as “new” and people stating unfair return polices.

I do realize that the number of people who actually leave seller reviews tend to be people who are upset. I am a fairly busy and positive person and don’t like doing things like this. I often just go with the flow and don’t leave a negative review. I wish I would have read the reviews prior to purchasing this from GearTree. There are so many honest sellers on Amazon, Reverb, ebay etc with more reasonable return policies that there is no reason to support a company like this. I buy tons of stuff online each year and I've been lucky to work with companies much better than this. Eventually this will catch up to them.

PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS (and how they respond to those reviews)! AVOID GearTree. It's not worth the risk. If you have any issues, they are not going to be nice people about it and will leave you feeling used and empty...

Improper packaging for electric guitar

"Ordered guitar from Gear Tree thru Amazon-
Order came Fed Ex 7 days late (Gear tree forgot to ship) with no packaging on the inner guitar box, which had a hole punched thru it. The Statocaster has a good sized dent in the pickguard that you can see in the light. (Black body, didn't see right away.) But still. $450.00 purchase you would think they'd pack it at least another box like all other guitar retailers. I would think twice ordering from them. Just be forewarned!

Scam restocking fee

"Bought on Amazon, returned for having issues. They kept $125 and said I scratched the guitar. Showed pics of scuffs on the bridge plate. 100 pct did not scratch it-If I did I would admit it. I really wanted to love the guitar but it wouldn't stay in tune for 6 hours. For that restocking fee, I would have kept it and upgraded the tuners. Stay away from Gear Tree."

bought on amazon, uploaded bogus tracking

"tracking they uploaded has stayed on label created, not received by shipping company,

amazon states shipment appears lost and to contact the seller. the seller responds saying they have different tracking that shows it was delivered(super shady), but all amazon will do is let me email them since they are third party sellers.

that tracking (the one they didnt put in amazon) shows only my city and no exact address... after i responded back to them asking to show proof of delivery they send a picture on amazon that is unviewable. so either my package was stolen, sent to the wrong address, or spoofed as if it was sent to my city, yet i don't know.

all the said is it was delivered and to check around. but so far havent proven delivery!

DON'T buy from them.

Reselling Defective Merchandice

"I was watching an Ibanez Ibanez Axion Label RGD71AL on Reverb.com when they made me an offer much cheaper than most other stores were offering. I received the guitar quickly. It showed some signs of being a return. Some of the plastic that peels off a brand new guitar was already peeled off. It also appeared that no one from the shop gave it any sort of inspection before shipping it out to me. I took it to my guitar tech to have it set up. He maxed out the truss rod adjustment so that you couldn't add any tension to the neck to make it as flat as it could be. He told me that guitar was defective and that I should return it. I emailed them about the issue and sent it back to them. They sent a message saying since I didn't mail it back in the original box that they were at a loss. The only way that original box would have mattered is if they were trying to resell that defective guitar. The only place that guitar should have gone was back to Ibanez and they do not care about the original box when it comes to defective guitars. If you buy this guitar and get SN # 190219658, it is a defective guitar and return it!"

Never neglect to read the customer reviews

"This company must be run by psychopaths. I placed an order for a banjo and then realized it was not the one I wanted. Tried to communicate within an hour or two, and got a message that they would deal with it in "normal business house" - this was on a Friday, and so I expected to hear from them on the following Monday. What I got was a total, rudely-worded rejection of my request. Of course, they claim they had already started the shipping process (made out the form for fedex), plus they state it was non-returnable, non-refundable. I don't plan to take possession of the item, so will not pay for it.
Beware, everyone, of dealing with this company!

Customer service is nonexistent at Gear Tree

"Bought on Reverb. No issue with products, but when I questioned why my order was split into 3 separate shipments, the guy blew up at me, and blocked me from sending messages or feedback. No wonder they have all positive feedback on reverb.

Here are the last 2 messages. First one is me.

I know they dont require it. It's simple customer service. I work in sales for distribution...I get it. It just seems like your system is flawed. Was kind of looking for a simple apology and explanation.

Gear tree:
Your attitude is unacceptable and we don't have to deal with it. We gave you a full explanation of how things work and it has nothing to do with our system, it's the way Reverb's system works. We aren't going to apologize for shipping your orders in more than one package, take your entitled, condescending mentality elsewhere if you're not happy with how we do things.
