"Placed an order for a silver tarpaulin that was a really good deal on 11/10/09. No email to confirm the order was sent out. No communication that the order was cancelled and mercandise was no longer available. Shortly afterwards, more stock came in and the price on the website was adjusted and sold out. Now that item is not in the catalog and they refused to do anything to appease the customer. Be warned that they will cancel your order without notice and leave you hanging. Poor customer service and no communications. Companies like this are not long for the world. Buyer beware!"
"I've been buying from Harbor Freight for probably 40 years or more. Lots of hand tools, wrenches, gauges, hacksaw and razor blades, chisels, gloves, hammers, etc. Most of the hand tools are top quality, though I didn't like the quality of the hacksaws.
Most of those purchases were mail order, but since we now have a local store, I make my purchases there.
I regularly recommend Harbor Freight to friends. Their quality is good and their prices are very reasonable. Keep up the good work, Harbor Freight."
"First off, ignore any 1-star reviews below. There was a price mistake, and a few users from a certain deal site that shall not be named got mad when they didn't get a $70 product for $7, and gave Harbor Freight lots of 1s.
I buy from Harbor Freight fairly regularly. Usually in the store, but occasionally online. I've had mostly good experiences with their tools. They're cheap, but not all cheaply made.
For example, I bought an 18-volt cordless drill from them about 6 years ago. It cost a full $20, and finally died just a couple months ago. Sure, it's not the same quality as a Dewalt, but replacing the entire drill (including battery and charger) costs less than just a new battery for the Dewalt. Most of their power tools are that way - they're plenty strong for the casual homeowner (or not so casual - I just used their tools to remodel my home).
Their hand tools, on the other hand, seem to be just about as good as anything you'd buy at Home Depot or Lowes. I've never had one break on me, and I've put a lot of them through their paces.
The store itself is pretty decent. Tends to be messy, and there probably aren't as many people working the registers as I would like, but where is that not true these days? Online is similar - their website isn't very well designed, and shipping tends to be a little slow."
"Really messed up ordering process. I had a couple of orders. This order, for sale item, was canceled for lack of inventory. The second one, half was canceled for lack of inventory (same items as in this order), and I wouldn't have ordered the rest if not for the items canceled. So I paid retail + shipping for something I don't want.
Edit: they are sending me a $10 gift card (instead of refunding the $9 shipping fee). Reasonable compromise so I will adjust my customer service ratings higher."
"I ordered two power extension cords. The shipping was expansive so I throw in a key holder for $1.99 without extra shipping fee. All the products were available online. However, without notifying me, they shipped key holder to me and claimed that the other two items were out of order. The final charge for my order is $1.99 key holder + $11 shipping. I would not have ordered this, they basically tricked me into this order. The customer service was a joke.
NEVER ORDER FROM THEM."
"The sent me an email and a postcard stating that my order would come through and then after two weeks sent me a cancellation of my order. The problem is my order was a gift for someone else. Very disappointed that they let me place and order that they didn't have, even more dissappointed that it took two weeks for them to figure it out."
"I have made a few purchases in the past and have always ended up disappointed. Last time I ordered 2 extension cords because they were listed at a great price, I decided to go ahead and throw in a miter saw and drill bits while I was at it. The drill bits were such a joke I had to laugh. 20 of the bits were smaller than toothpicks, some were the width of hair.
The worse part is they cancelled the 2 cords that I wanted and left me to pay for this other crap and shipping. Fool me twice, shame on me. NEVER AGAIN!"
"Ordered a 12G 100ft Outdoor Extension Cord on sale for $7.97 and got a postcard in the mail saying they couldn't honor the price. Will never order from again."
"They were not able to sand me an email to tell me that order have been an cancelled.
After when I send them an email finaly they were able to to tell me that order is cancelled. Here is there joke of a reply:
Our apologies but the item# 45288 has been cancelled from your order. The item was recently discontinued. Please note that you were not billed for item. If you paid by check, you will be receiving a refund in the mail.
Regards,
Ronald Rogers
They simply suks.

"If you want cheap tools at a cheap price, this is the place. Many tools if they break, throw them away and buy a new one from HF. You'll still be way ahead. Ordered several torque wrenches and they seem just fine. Got order in about 10 days...not the quickest. One wrench is back ordered. Oh well. Prices are great. I'd shop here again for sure."
"During the ordering process they forgot to mention that if an item is under $10 & out of stock the order is cancelled. The first three times I called to check the status of my order I was told that the computers were down & to call back. On the fourth time I was finally told of the cancellation. They had my correct mailing & E-mail addresses & phone number. Too lazy to inform me I guess. "
"Greenville SC -
No customer service. Rude to the point of disrespectful. No knowledge of product or respect for my time. Register line are long or broken. 4 registers 1 operator, everyone else disapears. Maybe putting out stock....Nope!
Incorrect prices at register.
I waited 30 mins. at the register after checking out. The product rang up wrong price. They said I would need to pay for it, then they would return the difference. The Asst. Mgr. could not get the register to reopen. she told me I had to get in the other line....8 people were in, get a refund, and start over. My time is worth more than that!! Keep your stuff. I'll buy quality!"
"Ordered some tools from them. It took a little bit long for them to ship, but I received the order in good condition. Will recommend this company to others."
"On Log #1036632 I ask for part #14 from the owners manual of item SKU97622 on page 16. I received only a partial of this part. It was returned with a letter of explaination of its defficiency and a complaint of the lack of capability of their Customer Service reps. The complet part was received Feb 8, 2009
On Log #1036633 I ask for part #39 from the owner manual of item SKU45861 shown on page 33. When the part finally arrived it was part #33 from page 33. The complete information must have been too complicated for their Customer Rep to understand. The wrong part was returned with a letter of explaination and a complaint of their utilization of incompeten help. No further word has been receive on this order.
I rate their customer service at an absolute zero for their lack of ability to understand the English language and product their knowledge"
"As a long time customer and user of Harbor Freight tools, I am appalled that even while they know their shipping process has been and remains broken, the company seems uninterested in fixing it.
My in-store experiences have all been good, but the internet ordering process has been abysmal.
My lathe drive belt failed and a replacement belt lasted for only 1.15 hours of use. Ordering a replacement belt on 17 November and two more on 18 November, Harbor Freight states all were shipped via HFT shipping on 18 & 19 November and charged my credit card for three belts.
As of 6 January 2009, none have arrived. With the lathe being inoperative for nearly two months I was finally able to find a U.S. supplier for the belt and cancelled my order at Harbor Freight.
I am now awaiting some sort of letter from them, (their estimate of 5 days) which I must sign and send back to them(my estimate of 5 days) for a refund. Glad I don't respond to my customers in this manner.
