"quick response and work done by provider"
"HomeAdvisor provided the names of several companies that would do the work needed. The companies responded quickly and I eventually picked the company."
"At first I was very happy with Home Advisor. About 50% of the leads I got were actual people that would responded to calls, were looking for quality as opposed to the cheapest possible price, and paid their bills. After that, whether or not you convert the leads into clients is entirely dependent on you and not HomeAdvisor.
In my second half of my first year with Home Advisor they changed their settings – now, instead of me being able to set my own lead coverage areas, they had to that for me. It was a bit of a hassle as I constantly like to tinker around with my settings but in general, it worked out.
After that, things went downhill. I live about 8 miles away from a large city. When I originally was able to set my lead coverage I had initially included that city; however, I quickly realized how stupid that was. After that I only had 5 zip code areas for 4 small towns/cities.
At the beginning of my second year I started transitioning out of a full time manager role. I was planning on selling the business in about 8 months and transitioning into a different career. I called Home Advisor once again to adjust my lead coverage area as I wouldn’t be checking in too often so I wanted to make everything as simple as possible for my workers – making sure that the large city was not in my coverage. A few weeks later, I noticed I had gotten several leads from the large city so I again called to ask them to adjust. Same story – this time I paused my leads and Home Advisor called asking what they could do to help – I told them again that I wanted the large city removed from my coverage area – they again told me it was taken care. There were at least 6 or 7 calls of this nature in about a month.
After this, I got married and was out of the country on my honeymoon and then out of state for an extended period of time – when I got back in state, I didn’t check my account for a few weeks. I came back on this morning and to my shock, there were tons of leads from (you guessed it) the large city. I checked my lead coverage – formerly, they had only made the mistake of including a few zip codes from the city but, oh no not this time. There were close to twenty zip codes from the ‘greater metro area’ of the city. I immediately called to discuss – they refunded my credit card $33 and then offered $150 in free leads – I said no way. I haven’t added up everything nor do I care to, but from a ballpark estimate the total damages (just of the large city leads, not including the good leads) were close to $1,000.
Home Advisor is a decent company selling a decent product. However, if you in any way want to adjust your account semi-regularly, do not go with this company. The reps lowest on the ladder are the ones who do the adjusting, so it will most likely take multiple calls for them to even get one change right – now imagine wanting to change and tinker with your leads once a month or even once a week – an absolute nightmare. On top of that, you will have to call every time you need a refund because they botched your coverage area. If Home Advisor went back to the old way where you could adjust everything and if you needed help, they’d do it for you, then they might convince to me come back (if was planning on staying in the business – oh, and if they wrote me a check for $1,000).

"I found a handyman easily, and was very satisfied with his work and the convenience of scheduling with him. Some parts of the HA website I found confusing and inadequate (for instance, why show a localized map with contractors marked by location, and their names and contact information listed below it, if there are no live links included for any of these parties?) I was also sent a referral to a person matching my project description though I had not yet completed and submitted a referral request. That presumes a lot -- and I'm not sure I want to keep getting unsolicited email messages from HA several times a week. It seems a bit overheated, though some may appreciate being constantly solicited by HA for additional work."
"He was flexible in scheduling and prompt when a date and time were agreed on. His service is superb and his prices are fair. I would recommend his service in a heartbeat."
