"HomeAdvisor is a SEO spammer flooding our website with tons of bogus listings trying to trick people into calling them to find contractors. Wise up folks, just ask around your local hardware store. There is zero reason to pay these folks a cut to find a plumber/handyman/whatever."

" Home Advisor advertises under several names HomeImprovement Leads, Home Advisor just to name two. We canceled this service after not receiving one job and paying for 6 months of expensive leads. We are a small family owned handyman business and could not afford this, but now my customers tell me they looked my number up online only to find out it was Home Advisor answering like they are me. Then they would refer the customer to another Handyman Service. THis is unethical. Shame on Home Advisor. Check out Angie's List, they really work hard for their customers and clients."
"I believe spelling tells it all. AdvisOR/ContractOR vs. AdvisER/ConsumER. Who do you think HomeAdvisor is going to please? I believe that the HomeAdvisor service is probably alright for small jobs e.g. lawn mowing, and yet when you as a consumer need someone to screen contractors on more expensive for you beware of HomeAdvisor's service contractor screening thoroughness. I chose a contractor with a 3.75 out of 5 rating from HomeAdvisor and feel as though I was swindled. The quoted job was never completed. When I called their contractor relations office, I was told that without a written quote there was nothing to do with how their referred contractor behaved, and yet the it was my civic duty to report their contractor on their website.
Back to my original point, contactors pay HomeAdvisor for consumer leads. I didn't pay HomeAdvisor for referring a contractor to me. You get what you pay for; that's what they say. And that's what I found out several hundred dollars later for a job that is still undone. My real horror story is that my wife will never forgive me for bringing such a crooked contractor into our home. I will hear this story over and over again for the rest of my life."
