"I wished I found this site before I placed my order with this company. I could not believe I had to call them to confirm my order and to call a toll number to boot. Well after over a week trying to call that number, their 800 number and e-mail I still have not gotten through to them or they have contacted my. After finding out the New York Better Business Bureau has started an inquiry into them, that was enough for me. This company is horrible and Yahoo should be ashamed of themselves for putting them on their preferred sellers list with 4 stars."
"I purchased, or so I thought, a Sony TRV19 from this company on Thursday. Pushy sales staff? sure! but that's their job right? Well, I got nervous and called monday for a tracking number. They said I had to call back at 11am their time, "that's when shipping opens". Fine, I call back, "Welcome to Starlight Camera, we're closed, call back during business hours." Uh, it was noon. OK, I tried every day last week and got the same message all day. Then on Friday I didn't even get a message, just rang off the hook.
Luckily they hadn't charged the card as of Friday.
I'm cancelling the credit card and moving on to a reputable dealer."
"I bought a Nikon LS 40 digital film scanner from this outfit on 6/18/2003. They called me the following Tuesday to purportedly verify the security code on my ATM card, but the guy's ulterior motive was to sell me an extended service warranty. He pressed me hard with threats that the manufacturer would charge hundreds of dollars just to look at a defective unit and I would be well advised to buy their warranty. I declined (three times) and the guy abruptly hung up on me. They charged a lot for shipping (over $30 for a 2 pound item) and it still took almost 2 weeks to arrive. None of the usual courtesies of on-line shopping were observed. No e-mail confirming that the order had been received. No e-mail to advise that the item had been shipped.
I became aware of a $100 manufacturer's rebate from visiting the Nikon site and mailed the application to Nikon on 7/8/2003. On 8/29/2003 I received a response from Nikon which declined my request for the $100 rebate, citing that "The product you purchased was not sold to the retailer noted by Nikon Inc; the authorized distributor of Nikon photographic products in the USA and sponsor of this offer. Additionally, this product is not eligible for Nikon Inc. warranty coverage."
I would strongly urge any prospective buyers from having anything to do with I.N.S. Digital World and I am dismayed that Yahoo Shopping gave these people a preferred merchant rating which initially misled me into believing that I was dealing with a reputable business."
"I have a similar story.
I ordered a Sony DCR-TRV19 Mini DV camcorder from INS Digital World. I figured that I could trust them because of their high Yahoo! ratings. It was a scam (bait and switch).
After ordering the camcorder online I recieved the confirmation e-mail telling me to call to confirm my order.
Here's where things get messy:
I call to confirm my order and the guy tries to up-sell me some UV and polorization filters. He says, "These are required to use the camcorder." I said, "I'd like to get the camcorder and try it before ordering any additional accessories". He says, "Why does everybody say that?" and proceeds to try and convince me to buy the filters. When I say, "No thank you", he says, "I'm thru talking to you, get off my phone." When I try to calm him down he says, "Your order is confirmed, you'll have it in three weeks, now get off my phone!" and hangs up on me.
A few hours later I check the status of the order online and find out that it's cancelled.
This is a bait and switch scam, and it's illegal. You cannot offer to sell me a camera for $XX and when I don't want the accessories cancel my order!
I think Yahoo! should investigate this seller and cancel their account. They make Yahoo! and their rating system look bad. I want to be able to trust their ratings, but cannot. I suspect, that since the order was cancelled, I will not have the ability to rate this seller."
"I ordered the Nikon Coolpix and got an email requesting me to call for confirmation. I only had a chance to call after four days. The person there put me on hold 3 times before he finally started helping me. when I gave the order number he said "sorry this is back ordered by the manufacturer" so I asked him how come they didn’t notify me earlier and he replied that they are too busy (yeah right!) and hadn’t had the time to call me (??) surprised as I was from the answer he proceeded to say that "you're not the only customer". I had never encountered such bad customer service."
"Man I wish I had found this site earlier. I ordered an Olympus C-740 from the site. Upon getting my order confirmation it says that I need to contact them to "confirm your order." Upon contacting them the sales agent tells me that the camera does not contain batteries…big red flag…..but for first time customers they are running a special on a charger and batteries for $69.00. I tell the agent that I am not interested but would like to know if the camera has the standard Olympus warranty. I was interrupted by...what good is a warranty without batteries. I tell him again that I am not interested and then he tells me "I am through talking to you" and hangs up. I check my order status and it says cancelled, which is great. All I wanted was a camera for a good price and all I got was a scam. I expect more from a Yahoo shopping merchant. Do not buy from this store."
"Sales person was very pushy. He outright LIED that the Canon EOS-1Ds I was trying to purchase was the BODY only...on the website it indicates that the camera comes with all of the accessories (such as battery, etc.). He was really pushy with the accessories, too. After I asked that my order be cancelled, he told me there was a 6% cancellation fee! I finally said to ship it as it was and I would get the battery, charger, etc. from somewhere else. Eventhough I was as nice as could be (though not interested in buying a bunch of extras), the salesperson says to me, "You disgust me!". WHAAAT??? I was happy to jump back online to see that my order had been rejected. Hurray! Don't believe the 4+ star rating at Shopping.Yahoo!
