"I am an avid cosmetics user & collector and for the past 5 or 6 years I have purchased all of my cosmetics internationally using online stores.
I too had read bad reviews about MakeUpMania but they sold the products I was interested in and their prices were extremely competitive. So... "nothing ventured, nothing gained" & 3 orders down the track, I want to tell anyone who will listen about the O U T S T A N D I N G customer service I have received from Heather at the store.
Firstly, I made a mistake when making my third order & I requested by email that the order be cancelled immediately (and MuM did just that).
When my second order arrived lids from cream blushes had come off their pans & cream blush was throughout the remaining items in the parcel.
I emailed Heather at MuM saying what had happened and detailing what I could clean up and what was worthless. Heather immediately responded with a solution to the problem.
Given the time difference between Australia and Colorado (USA), I was extremely impressed with the importance Heather had placed on my email and she was quite clear about wanting to rectify the problem immediately.
Given the number of unfavourable reviews I have read about MuM, I understand that the company may have been having problems in the past.
My personal experience with MuM is quite different, in fact my experience is exactly the opposite to the negative reviews.
I would say that after shopping online for years that I have a very extensive history of online customer service, most of which I would generally rate as poor.
My customer service experiences with MuM have been the BEST I have ever received from any company online.
If you are reading this after having had a poor experience with MuM, I would highly recommend that you give the company another chance. Things have definitely changed for the better!
I would like to finish by saying that I joined the Reseller Ratings site just so I could leave this review of MakeUpMania. I have never left a review on any site for any company before.

"I had to google Makeupmania to see if I was the only one who had such a bad experience with them. And I was surprised when I read the reviews to see that most of the reviews are bad !!! So I decided to write one too, to let everybody know that it's the worst store to buy from, I had NEVER had such a bad experience buying on a website, and I'm very mad about it. So here's what happened:
1- I purchased 2 28-wells empty palettes @ $58 each, so a total of $116 for both. They emailed me to let me know that if my billing and my shipping address don't match they can't fufill the order. So immediately i wrote back and told them that they can cancel my order because my credit is from another country and my shipping address is in the USA, therefore they will never match. And I told them that it's fine, I'll just order on another website that will accept my card; so in my mind it's a closed subject. Thus I placed the same order on another website. But since I noticed a few days later that mum never wrote me back to confirm the refund, i asked them to confirm that my order is cancelled and my card refunded. To my big surprise they tell me that finally they shipped the package even though I told them to cancel it! And I had already purchased somewhere else. So now I had to go back on the other website and cancel the 2nd order, because mum decided without my approval, that they wanted to make this money anyways, even though my billing and shippindg addresses didn't match. Since it had shipped out already I accepted it, what ever.
2- The second shock I had, when I finally received my package: they didn't send me the palette I had purchased, they sent me 2 super cheap palettes that are not worth more than 15 or 20$, while I paid $116 !!! They probably thought I wouldn't notice the difference. Extremely upset I wrote them, sent them the picture of what I received. They told me that it's "the shipping guy" who made the mistake. That I can keep the 2 cheap palettes they sent me by accident, they will reship me the correct ones. Which seems fair for the inconvenience they caused, making me waste time, while I needed these palettes urgently.
3- Third shock, I receive the second package, and instead of sending me 2 28-wells palettes, they sent me one 28-wells empty palette which is fine, when I open the second package it is a 35-wells empty palette which is worth $29 when I paid $58 for each. So they sent me a palette that is worth half the price of what I requested, and that will not fit my needs because the wells are not deep enough. It is because I needed a palette with deep wells that I purchased the most expensive one ! So after all these problems, they hope again that I will not notice.
4- My forth shock, I write them again, extremely upset, which is normal, because they've been handling my order all wrong since the beginning, I asked that they refund me the difference of $29 because the palette they sent me is not worth what i paid. I sent them to picture to prove that it is not the 28-wells palette. And to my surprise, she answers me that I have 4 palettes in hands and still i write her in "such a way". First of all, yes I'm writing you in such a way, I'm very mad and you're making me waste my time. Second of all i have 4 palettes??? The 2 cheap palettes you sent me in the first place i didn't need them, you sent them "apparently" by mistake to me. So don't come and tell me i have 4 palettes in hands, it's your mistake. And then the second time you still find a way to send me a cheaper palette, i don't believe it was by mistake this time. And above all, she tells me that she has a hard time believing that there was a mistake again, but she will still grant me the refund to close the chapter. Which means that she thinks that I'm lying to get $29 back, but she'll still give it back to me just to finish it with. So here i am dealing with a company that has been fooling around with me since the beginning, and now she's offending me indirectly after all of this !!! She might as well just close her store if it was for me.Doing business is not for everyone, clearly !
So people, don't waste your time buying there, they a not professional at alllllll. Just read the other reviews below, and you'll understand that I am not the only one who thinks so. It's the worst website i have ever dealt with."
"I ordered the 12 set La Femme blush from MakeUpMania. I was hesitant to order from them because of all the awful reviews. Although I went ahead and ordered anyways because it was such a good deal. First of all, the blush came in less than 3 weeks, which isn't long at all considering you choose your own blush colors so the palette is completely customized. Second, I called to see when I should expect my package and there was no wait on the phone and the girl was very friendly and helpful. Since one of the colors of blush I ordered wasn't in stock she said I could wait for the color to come in or choose a color that is similar to the one I was waiting for. She told me all the colors that were pretty close and said she would send it out as soon as possible. My blush was packaged very well, compact and protected. It came with a list of what each blush is called and where it is on palette which is very convenient so that I know which colors I like best. The colors of blush I chose are beautiful and will last very long since they are very pigmented. Over all, my experience with MakeUpMania was great, I loved the price, the product, and customer service. I would definitely order from them again and will tell my friends to get the blush palette! "
"Unbelievably Horrible Customer Service Practices out of any retailer I have EVER dealt with! I gave them a sufficient amount of time to fulfill my order. After 6 days I emailed them twice without any response. Today, exactly one week after initially placing an order I phoned them. I spoke to a "Heather" and asked her about a status and explained that I've emailed twice without any response and the first thing she said was "to what email did you email?" You have got to be kidding I thought to myself....so basically I asked what's the delay? why didn't I get an update about out of stock items? All I got from this girl was a bunch of EXCUSES...Items out of stock...A shipment is coming in tomorrow...We don't have enough staff...We get hundreds of orders...I stopped her there and said okay cancel my order and issue me a refund back to my card. Never once did I get, "I apologize Ms.Knight...etc." Just horrible excuses. I honestly don't know how they stay in business. NEVER will I EVER consider them for makeup supplies and I will tell EVERYONE I know about this terrible experience. Heather stated her boss "Eva" who is the owner would have to issue my credit and I should receive it by next week. I asked for a confirmation email to be sent to me stating that. She was trying to get me off the phone but I made her repeat my information back to me so there is no confusion as to where to send the email to. I will be curious to see what the follow up is going to be. Or else they will never hear the end of it from me!

A BIG FAT LIE, Eva never called me, nor left me a message!!!! I want that to be perfectly clear! I did receive my refund back to my credit card but that was it! The status on my account ONLY stated refund/cancel. I could care less what this woman wants to say are their problems. That is their concerns that should never be passed onto the customers. What should be communicated with customers is a courtesy email being sent out when items are OUT OF STOCK, and a actual REPLY would be nice when the customer initiates communication whether it be via email or by phone. Again I like to state I will not consider this company again.

i ordered 5 la femme blushes and graftobian foundation (mainly because they have the lowest price) YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!
i placed my order on a saturday....that wednesday I had to call them because I did not receive any tracking or shipping information (it shouldn't take that many days to package an order and give it to your usps guy).
they claim one of the blushes was out of stock and I told them I would call them back to make a decision about whether or not to partially ship my order. i called back a few days later and told them to partially ship it. the lady i spoke to said they didnt have the foundation and someone ordered it from their supplier and it would be coming in the following day and they would ship it the following week because she didnt want to make any promises.
when i get my package. the original blush they claim was out of stock was actually in my delivery but ANOTHER blush was missing. i called them immediately to let them know because i did not want a dupe of the same blushes.
i'm still waiting on my foundation and my other blush. it's been almost 3 weeks.
it seems as though these women just order as you order...which is the only explanation I can think of that it would take multiple people months to get some silly blushes and a $12 foundation.
if you do not know how to run a business you need to get out of business and STAY OUT OF BUSINESS!!!!!!
makeup mania needs to hire competent ppl. they need to hire more ppl. they need to update their website regularly...it is unethical and dishonest to advertise products that you do not have and still take ppl's money.
i can promise you, I will continue to give this company negative reviews, i will no longer encourage my readers or youtube subbies to visit their site and i will never order from this company again under ANY circumstances"

"I placed an order with MakeUpMania on 3/2/11. I called the next day to see if I could get a shipping estimate because one hadn't been included in the confirmation e-mail I was sent. The girl I talked to said a lot of the products I'd ordered were on back order and that the shipping department was "swamped." She said she'd call me back that day. She didn't call me back. I called back the next day and talked to the same girl. She said again that she'd have to call me back. I was surprised to get a call back within two hours. She said that part of my order could be shipped out that day, but that the brush cleaner I'd ordered wouldn't be in for another week but that as soon as it was they'd ship it out to me.
She called me back later to tell me that a shade of lipstick I ordered was on back order and wasn't going to be available for weeks. She helped me select another shade. She called me back after that to tell me that the other shade I'd selected was also on back order. She recommended yet another shade. I said it was fine. (I've listed all of this back and forth triviality to emphasize three points: inefficient business practices, the fact that these people are makeup oriented and that that doesn't qualify them to succeed in business, and three, the girl that I talked to was helpful and nice about all of it.)
My order shipped out that day, Friday. I got it on Monday (it was mailed in-state). My order was missing loose powder and had half the quantity of disposable mascara wands I'd ordered and they weren't the right kind. I called MakeUpMania back and got the same girl over the phone. I told her what was wrong. She took it down and told me that their shipping department had worked hard to get the order out to me so fast. (Emphasis, again! if their shipping is so inefficient that it takes extra effort to get a routine order out within two days of order placement and the customer has to make two or three phone calls that's not normal.)
I waited, weary of the endless phone calls that could ensue from one mistake. Yesterday, 3/28/11, I received the rest of my order. The brush cleaner I'd waited for was intact. The mascara wands were wrong again, different kind, lower quantity. I never got the loose powder I ordered, I got pressed powder. (Everyone makes mistakes, but some people are accident prone.)
I'm satisfied leaving it as it is because I got the financial equivalent of what I ordered and paid for. More importantly, I'm not willing to spend another month waiting for something to be set right when it could just be another opportunity to mess more things up.
The selection of products they offer was the reason that I ordered from them. I did know before ordering that they had a habit of not keeping the customer updated on order status and that they tended to wait weeks before shipping something because so much of their inventory is on back order.
I think it's irresponsible to offer products that are on back order without letting the customer know before they commit to a potential month long wait without knowing it. I also think it's telling that you can't find anything but good reviews on their website and nothing but neutral to negative reviews everywhere else.
My opinion overall: This is a company made up of makeup lovers, not business people, as evidenced by the wide selection of products and advertising and the poor follow-through after the customer has already payed, and the frequent attempts to make things right with the customer after they've made a mistake.
I think they'd have happier customers if they:
#1 Increased the number of employees who knew the technical side of the business,
#2 Frequently updated their website on product availability and
#3 maintained clear communication with the customer by including shipping information in confirmation e-mails.
I'm not just trying to use this as an opportunity to spew venom. I'm trying to warn potential future customers about what they might be getting into. If you are willing to spend more time than it should take to process and ship a normal order, have the patience necessary for the back and forth over the phone and through the mail to remember your original intent in ordering in the first place, and if you are good at keeping on people and getting them to be accountable to you you just might enjoy ordering from them. According to the positive reviews on their website SOMEONE does."
"I placed the order on March 26, 2010, and did not receive the order until April 10, 2010. I live in CA and the items was in CO. It should NOT take two weeks for the item to arrive. I called them on April 6th, was told they would call be back in 30 mins. Two hours later, I have not heard from them so I called back and was told they will call me back later that day (which they did). They said that they were changing their system so some of the orders did not go through...and was told that it would be shipped out that same day and they will send me a tracking number...two days later (4/8)I received NO tracking # whatsoever so I called again. This time they said that the item was shipped out yesterday (Wednesday 4/7). So they lied to me when they said the item was shipped out on the 6th and again NO tracking information or anything. Called back for the THIRD time on Friday and was told that it has not been shipped out!!!! Spoke with Eva (the owner or so she said) also said they were changing their system so lost some of their orders...but I called three days prior and the girl said my order was shipped out. They LIED once again!!! Eva also said she will refunded my shipping, and I have not received the credits. I finally received my item on Sat 4/10 and again another disappointment. The items was poorly packaged, that TWO of my shadows was cracked! I had to call them back and asked for a replacement. Let's see how long it will take for this item to arrive. Seriously, what is wrong with this company, do they want to stay in business or what? This is my first AND last time ordering with this company. Do NOT do business with them, unless you want to have to keep calling them."
