"I have ordered many craft kits.....love them"
"I love these kits. Every time I get one, I look over all of the directions to see where the tricky parts are (using poster board; sewing only the shoulder - not the free arm - and seeing the layering required to achieve the 3D look. One time I got a kit (The Finishing Touch) that didn't have placement lines for one component, and I had to put it together by directions only and looking at the picture for placement. The arms for the pixie were not stamped on any of the felt, but I had enough scraps to cut out the arms.
As a master beader, I was not happy using the clear beads for almost every color sequin. I have #11 Miyuki Delica beads in a staggering 150 different colors and finishes. I like to use the silver lined beads to sit in the cupped sequins. They have high reflective qualities. I also add in small "upgrades", like jingle bells and micro-glitter snow onto the roof of the train in the Candy Express, and I added in red crystals for the holly berries. I had to use narrow coffee stir sticks for the wheel connectors.
On the Holiday Teddy, I added a green crystal to the teddy's hat, and more bling on the tree ornaments. One thing I have been doing is to add the name tag to a French Barrette clip that I attach to the hanger strap. That way if anyone wants to give it away, or hand it down, it won't have a name on there of one that has passed away. The MADE BY tags go on the back of the name tag. I can provide blank name tags for an additional fee.
I love doing these. I will continue to add in my personal touches, as a beader and jewelry maker to embellish areas I feel could be dressed up just a bit. For instance, on one of these I had to cut out boots for a pixie. They were two boots on one piece of felt. Once I added them in, there was no way to see they were 2 boots, so I beaded in the outline of the top boot so it could be seen, and carried the beads a little bit onto the bottom boot just for continuity.
Often the gift is more mature than the receiver. I did the Candy Express for my grandson who is turning three. He grabbed the little wreath on the train, and wanted to pull it off. That's when I decided to wait until he's a little older to give this one to him. I made the Finishing Touch for his little self. His little brother will get the Finishing Touch when his older brother is old enough to get the Candy Express stocking.
Now that I've made all of my grandchildren stockings, I am making them for sale. It seems I cannot stop!! :-) I am going to tackle a tree skirt to see how long it takes me, and if I want to continue to create the skirts. What a great product. I am so happy I found this site with all of these lovely products to make for family heirlooms. Thank you Merry Stocking for not letting Bucilla fade away."
"I started making Bucilla stockings for my 4 children when they were babies and they are no 39-47 years old. I have also made them for their significant others, and my five grandchildren, and have started on a stock for great grandchildren, in addition to giving to a couple friends (very good friends). Each one has been amazing, and they have become more complex and beautiful over the decades. "
