"Ordered a gas tank. Checked MANY times that it fit my year, model, engine size, and trans. Put order in, waited. Waited more. Finally stumbled across an email in my spam folder simply titled "Order ...." with my order number. No other details. The content of the email didn't give any other info other than "your order status has changed.... call us."
Called to find out that apparently the real matching part their site had sold me wasn't the ACTUAL real matching part I needed. Since I gave them my VIN at the END of my order they had suddenly discovered the real ACTUAL matching part I needed was a different part number, but they'd be happy to switch my order to that... for SEVERAL HUNDRED MORE DOLLARS.
1) The part I ordered was very specifically matched to my year / make / model / engine size. The part picture even matched what I pulled off the Jeep.
2) The VIN shouldn't do anything more than verify my year / make / model / options.
3) VIN verification is an automate-able process. No reason I should have to wait for a human to do it AFTER I gave you my money.
4) Suddenly the gas tank I really need is available for almost twice the price. That's called a bait-and-switch. Shame on you.
5) If you have a problem with a customer's order and they don't respond immediately to an email (in a time where over-zealous spam filters are a thing)... pick up the f**kin' phone and call your customer. Some people have vehicles in undrive-able condition and might actually need the part pretty quickly."
